Hmm...It may be due to their new implementations in their kernels. Does it work fine with the stock kernel? Maybe its time to move to 4.0.3 since most of the kernels out there are really made for 4.0.3 with "compatibility" for 4.0.2. You could try to get an older version of the kernels to see if that could work. The last option before going to 4.0.3 is to do a full wipe not just cache and dalvik cache. Make sure to do a backup with Titanium or something similar and don't restore system app data just regular data should be fine. The wipe will most likely fix it but at that point if I were to start over, I'd rather just try a new more up to date custom ROM. I hear 4.0.4 right now is having some market issues (that I'm sure can be fixed) as its not in Google's system yet officially.

 

So I guess that's Qualcomm's answer to the Quadcores. I like it. Competition is looking good.

Then its probably a 4.0.2 problem. I've never seen it happen in 4.0.1 and 4.0.3 so maybe something went wrong with 4.0.2? Might want to confirm with the XDA guys though as I've never used 4.0.2 because it was never available for the GSM version.

If you have time, I suggest you do a full wipe and start over. Immediately check WiFi and Deep Sleep. You could also do an Nandroid to keep a fresh copy of your phone as it is and flash back to it easily if you want to with CWM.

You can see that it plateaus and doesn't slope when I'm not using it which means it is sleeping properly and leading to a great battery life. In CPU Spy Deep Sleep uses up the most amount in the graph. Screen and Android OS are using the most with Phone Idle coming close since I only made a few phone calls and texts this morning.

This phone has features the HTC Sense UI already had. Sony's UI is not nearly as good. My HTC ROM even sports the Sony Bravia GUI.

For the majority of phones, CM7 is a lot more stabler than CM9 at the moment and runs with better battery life until the manufacturers start releasing their builds of ICS so they can grab or workaround the missing stuff. Also, CM7 incorporated a lot of stuff found in ICS so the jump to ICS is not as exciting if you're running CM7.

Is it just my phone or did Chrome Beta just get ridiculously faster with the latest update from today? Scrolling is insanely smooth now and page rendering is a bit faster. Playing with the ASUS Transformer ICS at the moment. Trying to get Face Unlock to work since ASUS seems to have left it out. Its probably missing the lib files but I can't find my copy of it on my computer. Might've trashed it once all the recent ICS builds incorporated it in properly.

 

I have yet to switch over to chrome, still using the stock browser.

 

Chrome is my default for browsing but when I need flash I switch to stock. Apparently, I do use flash quite a lot still.

So it's definitely my home wifi issue. Deep sleep while on Wifi at school. Anything I can do on my routers end to fix this?

 

The threads suggest that you isolate whatever is pinging your network nonstop. Print server, IPTV, another computer on the network? Network setup isn't my forte maybe someone else can help in that regard. You could probably try connecting/disconnecting things from your WiFi/router one by one until you figure out what it is then configure around it somehow. Or use some kinda of packet sniffing program to trace what it is.

I love the way chrome renders azine on the phone. It scales it to the sceen size and makes it so much better than the stock browser!

 

wireshark should catch any broadcasts packets that is sent to all devices but it's pretty . Another way would be to turn off all your other network devices one by one starting with the one your deem the most likely culprit and on down the chain to least likely to see which device if any is causing it, it could be your router itself.

 

Just gonna do the process of elimination, Wireshark is a little beyond my realm lol.

Only if you have root access. Its a safety feature of Android. You could also move the app to your /system/app/ folder to survive a data wipe if you want extra security as well and there's a setting to hide it from the app drawer.

Yep. You got it. If your ROM is insecure as well you could straight up push it to whatever folder after doing an adb remount (this is the same as using the "su" command). So it would look like the following.

This bypasses having to copy it to the sdcard then manually copying it to system folders, etc. Unfortunately, not all ROMs are insecure by default and require the init.rc to have an ro.secure=0 which the devs have to do when they build their ROMs. There is a way to make it insecure but that requires you to unpack the init.rc and then rebuild. It doesn't seem that hard but I haven't done it yet.

 

I use Wifi File Explorer. Obviously, its just a file explorer, but its convenient.

If you ever do use a custom ROM, I recommend using Franco's kernel with it. The recent versions fixed the laggy performance in his few past kernels and added a Sound booster and Color control similar to Voodoo Sound and Voodoo Color since Supercurio is rewriting his app. I've changed my color settings and now they're not super saturated and whites are more white now. Also allows you to turn off the CPU to save more battery when the screen turns off which gives it an excellent battery life. I've been getting about a day and some hours with his kernel on regular usage. Here's a screenshot of his app as well to tweak his kernel:

 

With shutting the CPU down at screen blackout aren't you experiencing any type of start-up lag? I know we tried dropping the CPU down to like 300 but would have crazy issues during rewake...

 

No lag here. My max is 1200 and min is at 700. Franco's reasoning for doing this that it hits Deep Sleep much faster than it would at 300. In terms of battery life, I haven't seen any penalties doing it this way except maybe in times when you're actually using the phone with the display on all the time. In that case, dropping it to 300 is much better for battery life. This is the fastest kernel I've used. I've tried Fugu, Imosen, and stock kernels and this easily beats all of them in terms of battery life and performance. Some people are experiencing a microsecond lag in waking the phone but one core shuts off when screen turns off and then immediately turns back on when the screen turns on. Just a note though, the kernel only works on 4.0.3 and above.

 

Yea I didn't read the fine print on the kernel not working on 4.0.2...You wanna know what it does on 4.0.2? Brick...

But alas I was able to fix it with ADB and a stock 4.0.2 img file...So it was actually a good learning experience as I had been using SBF on the DX for so long I had forgot most of what I knew about ADB...

I ended up switching the rom over to Gummy and running the latest Franco Kernel which so far seems like a beat...I did like you said and dropped one of the cores down during sleep and have not had any lag...Have noticed about at 30% - 40% increase in battery life so far...

What about the SQL option...Did you play with that at all? I know one of my friends is ranting and raving about the Eclipse rom...I still love cyanogenmod but its just to unstable from what I have seen on ICS...I still run it on the nook color though...

What other roms have you tried? Any perks you like more then others?

 

You could of just reflashed the stock 4.0.2 kernel (or any 4.0.2 kernel) in CWM or using Fastboot. All Nexus devices have Fastboot which I love. On my Nexus I've tried AOKP, CodeName Android and currently on Bigxie's Apex ROM. I want to move back to AOKP but currently waiting for Google to fix their Wallet issue:

^Google hasn't fixed the re-assigning of the prepaid Google wallet when you flash another ROM so I don't want to risk it and not have it working although I've already used up my funds but I do plan on adding to it again. I might just go ahead and flash though cause AOKP has some cool features like changing the amount of rotation time and so many other great options I haven't seen in other ROMs. If Bigxie updates his ROM though I should be okay but I think he's waiting for 4.0.4 to drop in AOSP or whatever's next. Luckily, some of the Nexus ROMs have been ported to the Galaxy S so I can play with their features there but its not the same. The smoothness is not the same for me and is very noticeable in certain apps like Chrome. Its almost like Chrome is a different beast on the Nexus compared to my Galaxy S and my Transformer and I'm not sure why. Google may have made some optimizations not found in the other devices. Also waiting on Cyanogenmod to be more mature. They should be on a regular nightly release soon as they just got their hardware for making their builds.


As far as the I/O thing. Haven't tried it yet although I should. lol. I only purchased the app recently as I wanted to play around with the color settings a lot more easily instead of using ADB and scripts. Its actually very useful.

All in all it was a pleasant experience...The gummy rom is ok...But when I had my D1 I stopped counting how many roms I had been on after 50 or so...I am a rom whore...

 

I'm the same way. Ever since I got my HTC Ion. lol. Currently, my spare Galaxy S and ASUS Transformer are getting the custom ROM flashing treatment since my Nexus is my daily. My girlfriend is borrowing my Transformer again though so I'll have to wait to flash another ROM later when I can take it back from her. At least there aren't that many ROMs for it yet and probably won't be until ASUS release those kernel sources.

 

Well Google just released a Google Wallet update just now. Could it be the fix for the prepaid cards? I'm gonna wait and see what XDA says then its on to flashing a new ROM.
