I'm leaving tomorrow morning with a big group to Milwaukee to watch the Reds and Brewers play Friday and Saturday night. Never been there before

We went to Wrigley last year...
Even the Mets, who everyone basically wrote off to be a joke this year, are threatening for the Wild Card and they are doing it without Wright, Davis, and Santana.

I just heard Reyes is out 3 weeks too.

And what's the deal with Beltran? Is he headed to Boston?

Who knows, but Boston does have a hard on for him. A problem is they have Ortiz at DH, who is mashing and I doubt they want to rely on playing Beltran in the OF to get his bat in the lineup. Not with how shaky his knees are.

Rangers fan fell 20 feet after catching a foul ball.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/tex...s-ballpark.ece

The fall doesn't look that bad, but when you think of all the empty space below him... damn...

Update 11:00pm: Brownwood City Manager Bobby Roundtree confirms that the firefighter who died is Shannon Stone of the Brownwood Fire Department.

Original Story: Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston confirmed that a Brownwood Firefighter died Thursday after he took a fall at a Texas Rangers baseball game in Arlington. Preston said that they are not releasing the name of the firefighter at this time pending notification of his family. Officials state that he is a husband and father.

The firefighter died after taking a head-first fall out of the outfield stands during Thursday night’s game between the Rangers and the Athletics.

The accident happened during the second inning as Josh Hamilton picked up a foul ball and tossed it into the stands for a fan.

The firefighter reached too far over the railing to catch the ball and fell about 20 feet to the ground behind the left field scoreboard.

"We are deeply saddened to learn that the man who fell has passed away as a result of this tragic accident," Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Reports indicate that the man was taken to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth where he died.

No other details are available as of Thursday night.

Wow, great comeback by the Indians.
5 runs in the bottom of the 9th including a walk-off grand slam by Hafner.

JETER HITS 3K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wooot!

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/10/sp...n.html?_r=1&hp

Derek Jeter became the 28th player in baseball history to reach 3,000 hits on Saturday, with a home run to left field in the third inning at Yankee Stadium off of David Price of Tampa Bay. In doing so, Jeter became the first player in the Yankees’ storied history to reach the hallowed number.

Jeter is the active leader in hits and the first player to collect his 3,000th since Craig Biggio of Houston in 2007. He is also the first to achieve the milestone at Yankee Stadium, old or new, and the fourth youngest player to do it. Only Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron and Robin Yount joined the club at a younger age than Jeter, who turned 37 on June 26.

Jeter accomplished it all without playing anywhere but shortstop, the most physically demanding position on the field besides catcher. Only three other players, Honus Wagner, Cal Ripken Jr. and Yount, have recorded 3,000 hits while playing most of their careers at shortstop.

5 for 5 off Price is pretty impressive. So is 3,000. I will give him his due.

But him, along with half of the people making the All Star team, is a joke. Then again we all know the voting for that is rigged.

Jeter, ARod, Mo. All opting out.

The players have less than nothing to do with the all star process. (which I agree is a joke)

I also think it wrong the winner gets homefield advantage, if anything to do with interleague it should be the league that wins most interleague games.

Although I hate the Yanks, congrats to Jeter, that is one hell of an accomplishment! Especially since he is the first Yank to do so, which was surprising when I heard that.

I have to disagree with you there. This makes the game so much more exciting to watch and it keeps you interested in the action. I think it is a good thing that there is something on the line when these guys are playing the All Star game. Going by the most interleague wins would be boring for the fans. I like seeing the best players in the league play one game with everything on the line.

Agreed. It shouldn't be decided by the ASG IMO.

I'd go for that idea, but not best interleague record. But what happens if the two teams that make it to the WS have the same record? Flip a coin?

I said IF it has to be based on interleague play then it should be the interleague record seeing as that is many games not one.

In the event of a tie, there would be numerous tie breakers if they were all ties sure coin flip, rock paper scissors, whatever.

So would you have kept or sold the ball? Personally I would've sold it. Would've paid some college tuitions for my kids.

I would have sold that ball to the HOF in a heart beat. This retard gives it up for season tickets and some signed balls and bats? Really?

So you would skip on potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars so that you can make Derek Jeter happy?

Not a surprise, Gibson. I've talked to 2 die hard Yankees fans and one fairweather Marlins fan that would've given it to him for free. Some people are wired differently and have different needs. Personally I'd have sold it because I'd really love to pay my kids' college.

I am a die hard Yankee fan but also a realist. I doubt Jeter would notice that he spent 1,2,300k (in the scheme of his total net worth) I'd let him have the satisfaction that comes with buying the ball for fair market value.

lol

the guy didn't give it up for free, he wanted to meet Jeter, and get a bunch of personally autographed, bats, baseballs, jerseys, etc.

Anyone who thinks he did it solely out of kindness is just silly

Sure, but if he was more selfish, he could have held out for much more. The HOF wants that ball and they would have paid a hell of a lot more than what a few Jeter signed jerseys and bats are worth.

It seems people forget that these guys are bunch of multi-millionaires running around the grass out there. They have no wants. Jeter would be just fine without the ball and if he wanted it bad enough he would be happy to pay at least the sum he makes in 1 game, about 140K.
