MLB: 2011 Season Discussion Thread

I don't know why that's funny. They have been very resilient this year, achieving a winning record despite injuries to Santana, Wright, Davis, and Reyes. They have won since losing Beltran and K-Rod. I'm not saying they will make the playoffs, but they deserve a lot of respect if they do and they making a run for it with the players they have certainly isn't a joke.
And don't forget Ichiro.

...wouldn't it be nice if the Mets actually were a few games out of the wild card in Sept. and Johan comes back to true form?? someone pinch me...wake me up!
Ichiro, great player, HOF bound but he said some stupid stuff during WBC and instantly I lost ALL respect for him.

man, Houston brass and Philly brass must be real close...last year was Oswalt and now Pence? I understand they didn't even give up their best prospects? someone correct me if im wrong i heard that over the radio coming into work...

No no i am very proud that my Mets are playing gritty baseball. Believe me, i am like all the rest of the other Mets fan in the tri-state area: a PESSIMIST. or rather PessiMets

They have over performed. I think that they are a 83-79 team which is what I signed up for in Spring Training. But they are playing better than that.

Beginning to resemble the Yankees and the Athletics in the 50s.

Been trying to catch up with all the football and baseball news from this weekend
Definitely a strange trade deadline week...props to the Rangers.
I'm a little miffed that the Reds didn't unload free-agent-to-be Ramon Hernandez (even though he's been nothing but great since he got here)...how many people could use a .300 hitting veteran catcher with some power? We have Ryan Hanigan co-starting now and a former #1 pick named Devin Mesoraco tearing it up in AAA.
It was obvious the Mets sweeping us turned us from buyers to neutral...then we turn around and sweep the Giants

Seems like a bad deal to me, considering what they gave up and the risks involved. I understand they control him for a few more years and he's not costing them too much, but still. They gave up a lot of talent, and he might be the next Erik Bedard.
Plus they've been fading consistently lately

Trade deadline has passed and the Cubs are still anchored by their awful contracts.
Nice to see the rest of the League is not as retarded as the Cubbies' and taking on the bad contracts of bad players.

This is what is making me happy as a Met fan. As good as K-Rod and Beltran are, we had to get rid of their brutal contracts. Getting a A+ pitching prospect in return was icing on the cake.

Bye bye Furcal
I am on the fence on this trade. He is a great player and is was an important player for the Dodgers, but his injuries have put a damper on his ability to do what he does best. However, Dee Gordon is a great up and coming player and performed pretty well in the absence of Furcal. Plus, the dude is a rabbit on the bases and can steal at will. I am just glad we didn't get rid of Either or Kemp.

F'in Marlins demote Logan Morrison. A fan favorite and huge Twitter following. Prob not the best PR move. Maybe bench him or something for whatever he did because it wasn't his .240 average that got him sent down.

Anyone catch the Rockies-Dodgers game last night? I think that was one of the worst officiating efforts I've seen all season, calling two balks in one inning when it was fairly clear neither of the pitchers they called them on had started their delivery. Just another setback in what was an outstanding performance by Esmil Rogers.

I'm going to that dump Fenway Park tonight to see if the Sox can lay a in their last reg season home game.
At least they're Pavilion Club seats or else I would have declined them. Ive never had a dress code for a game before though
