If we get Wheeler, I'm happy.

That's not a batter, that's Scott Proctor.

From every angle you see, you can clearly see he's out. Except the one that's directly behind the ump.

But he had a horrible strike zone all night. Pitches were decapitating worms and they were strikes.

Probably will back up Ross. Ross could start for a lot of teams.

I was wrong - Nieves will go to AAA to take the spot of JC Boscan, who was called up to be the second catcher.

Well, it's been a interesting time knowing Beltran. First two years we booed. Then we cheered. Then we booed again with all of the injury/surgery drama and now we're cheering again for his tenure here with the Mets and now off to help get another ring for the Giants.

Thanks #15.

Pretty good return for Beltran, definitely better than I thought they could get.

No, you're right. Met's fans are sometimes terribly stupid. They boo everyone. The guy can be batting .320, but if he strikes out with the bases loaded, they boo him. It's pretty dumb.

I like the trade. It was a lot more than I would have thought they would get.

Everyone said Beltran is having a monster year. The reality is that his projected total home runs for the year is about 25 and his projected RBI total is about 105. That is an average year for him when healthy. I still think he is one of the better METS player and it's unfortunate that he was hurt a lot.

Side note - so far the METS have shaved about 55 million dollars off their payroll for next season by getting rid of 4 players. If they do not resign Reyes that is another 12 million. I think this really helps Sandy push to get Jose back.

So, we paid cash for Will Nieves. Anyone want to guess what we paid for him? No cheating.

It was a great trade for both teams. Beltran was a goner, we weren't going to resign him and we weren't going to get a compensation pick for him taking off. We would have been left holding our dicks in our hand at the end of the season.

Instead we were able to snag one of the games top pitching prospects, greatly improving our farm system. Honestly, if they wanted to, I think the Mets could turn around tomorrow and trade Wheeler for a player better than Beltran.

The season Beltran had this year was the best thing he has done for the organization since he got here. Is there any baseball fan out there who would have said at the start of the season that Beltran was going to be the best available bat at the trade deadline?

Most people would have argued that he would not have even been on the roster come opening day since he was hurt in Spring Training.

Unbelievable

I'm convinced Bailey will never be consistent...please trade him. Change of scenery seems to help a lot of pitchers.

lol, the players are believing they can make a push to make the playoffs. Terry Collins is doing a great job motivating the Mets I have to say, a complete 180 from Jerry Manuels style.

I don't know why that's funny. They have been very resilient this year, achieving a winning record despite injuries to Santana, Wright, Davis, and Reyes. They have won since losing Beltran and K-Rod. I'm not saying they will make the playoffs, but they deserve a lot of respect if they do and they making a run for it with the players they have certainly isn't a joke.

And don't forget Ichiro.

Probably the Cubs' best chance to get a W in the series.

Phils gets Pence

Rich gets richer.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...e2011&c_id=mlb

Pence-sylvania: Phils acquire Astros outfielder

By Todd Zolecki / MLB.com

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies have acquired Astros All-Star right fielder Hunter Pence, two sources said Friday.

A deal could be announced before the end of the night.
Pence was pulled from the Astros' game in Milwaukee in the bottom of the fifth inning. He had taken the field for warmups before Jason Michaels was sent out to replace him. Pence could be seen hugging teammates in the dugout before heading to the clubhouse.

One source said the Phillies will send four prospects to the Astros for Pence. None of those players are outfielder Domonic Brown or right-hander Vance Worley, both of whom had been rumored at different times to be part of a deal. Class A first baseman Jonathan Singleton and Class A pitcher Jarred Cosart are part of the trade.

MLB.com ranks Cosart and Singleton the 37th and 38th best prospects in baseball. They are the organization's top two prospects.
<table class="floatLeft" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="150"><tbody><tr><td>
</td></tr></tbody></table>It is unclear who the other two prospects are.
The trade boosts a Philadelphia lineup looking up to keep up with its strong pitching staff. Pence, 28, is hitting .309 with 11 home runs and 62 RBIs. He has a .356 on-base percentage and a .472 slugging percentage. He should help a lineup that has struggled against left-handed pitching this season.

"He's a good, hard-nosed player," said Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt, who played with Pence in Houston. "Plays hard, gives 100 percent on the field. Don't have to worry about him putting his work in. He's going to put his work in. ... His first year in, he had the aura about himself that he wanted to help carry the team even though it was his first year. He has a leadership mentality as far as not wanting to accept second fiddle on anybody."
Looks like they locked up their outfield for the next 2 years.
