I can't think of a more accurate description for being a Leafs fan than "failed at pro hockey."

Hey black label, not sure if you commented earlier: But, what are you thoughts of Seguin getting punted...?
I mean, given his Tweets (which he claimed was due to hacking, sure), he's got some growing up to do...but, do you think the Bruins are giving up on him too soon? Personally, I always thought he should've gone #1 over Hall.
(Good centers don't grow on trees.)

Supposedly he showed up 3 days in a row during the Leafs series wearing the same clothes. The team hired a monitor to essentially keep him in his room at the hotel. He's a party boy who likes to drink may be a fan of cocaine and likes to chase women around the streets of Boston.
Who knows how much if any of that is true but based on Neely and Chiarelli's comments about his immaturity, it sounds like they didn't feel he was worth the 5.25 mil they agreed to pay him. He never showed the dedication to play "Bruins Hockey", kinda the polar opposite of a Gregory Campbell.
Personally, I would have wanted to keep him another year before I gave up but I gotta have faith in Chiarelli at this point, he's earned it. I'm pretty excited about the additions he's made so far.
In regards to the tweets, wasn't the offending tweet, "There's nothing but steers and queer in Texas and I'm not a cow"? Wouldn't that basically be him saying that he's gay? That's how I read it. I kinda doubt he'd tweet that.

Yes it does, pretty big dick move IMO. But they can release him and his huge cap hit, they just don't get anything for him, and there aren't many UFA's left at all now. Classy

Wait, what's that you say? Oh they had to give up their 1st round pick in the 2014 draft for the shady contract they signed with Kovalchuk? Looks like the Devils screwed themselves to me. Lou knew that Kovy wanted to go home. I wouldn't be surprised if the Devils were trying to talk him into 1 more year and couldn't convince him. Just because it wasn't announced until now doesn't mean the Devils organization didn't know it was coming.

I think it just doesn't happen, no one gets it from them as far as I know. I'm assuming there will only be 29 players selected in the first round next year.

The 30-year-old has 12 years remaining on the 15-year, $100 million contract he signed with New Jersey in September 2010. It was a change from a 17-year, $102 million deal agreed to months earlier that had been voided by the NHL for circumvention of the salary cap. The Devils were penalized $3 million and lost two draft picks -- a third-rounder in 2011 and a first-round pick between 2011 and 2014; that penalty, at the Devils' discretion, was deferred to 2014.

And apparently the Devils knew this was coming and was being discussed for some time.

Cap hit is still 250K per year until 2024-25. That was put in place so those teams who sign those ridiculous deals don't get off Scott free when the player retires with 3 years left and only 600K oweing. Lucky for the devils, he retired early.

B's just signed Bergeron through the 2021-22 season, 6.5 mil a year. This one makes me nervous from a durability standpoint. Bergy is a great player but he's a little on the fragile side.

He's still under contract this year on his old deal. The new deal is 8 years starting 2014-15. They want him to play his whole career as a Bruin, he's a guy who has the potential to have his number hanging in the rafters someday.
Chara is signed with the B's until 17-18 at which point he'll be 41. His contract goes from 7 mil a year to 5 mil in 2016-17 and to 4 mil in 17-18. Whether Chara retires before his contract is up, plays it out to 2018 or is traded away, Patrice Bergeron will be the next captain of the Bruins.
