Honestly I don't care that Morrow is leaving. He's way past his prime and is old and injury prone. And we are getting another Morrow it looks like; at least we aren't trading for another old player.

Leafs beat the Bruins
In an unrelated matter I took this pic just after the game ended.

Morrow is a good pick-up if he can stay healthy. For a rental, giving up a 1st rounder seemed to be a steep price but if he pans out, it is a genius move.
As a CASUAL observer (so, don't bite my head off, 97Ack), I would've thought the Pens needed help on D given the meltdown they had last year in the playoffs with the same line-up on the blueline.
Oh well.

I have a hard time watching hockey lately; my team is utter disappointment and the arrogance of Torts makes me scream. So much wasted talent.

Our blue line is pretty stacked this year, they are playing way better in front of Fleury, they've won 12 in a row, and are top of the Eastern conference, D isn't that much of a concern really, especially since Paul Martin our 5 mil a year D-man is finally playing like it. I still have a feeling that Shero may make a play for another big body D-man like a hedman or gill type player, but that remains to be seen. Morrow is a rental player, and nothing more.

And yet they're only a 2 or 3 game winning streak from being in that 7 or 8 seed. Lots of time left. I can't see the Rangers missing the playoffs.

The sizzle in the Steak
Pens need D for a Cup run.

Hey Statler, Kings are coming to town tonight to play your birdies.....well....at least they will play the birdies for one out of three periods. For the other two periods they will be eating pancakes or something.

We'll see. Kings may only need 1 period to crush the Hawks. That's how the Oilers and Avs did it a couple weeks ago.
The sizzle in the Steak
Over a best of 7, put the money on the Kings, as they will grind and wear down the opposition as the games roll on.
Senior Moderator
Against the Kings, it would be a matter of Chicago's deeper depth on D versus LA's deeper depth at center...?

The San Jose Sharks on Monday traded veteran stay-at-home defenseman Douglas Murray to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In exchange for the 33-year-old Murray, San Jose will receive a second-round pick in both the 2013 and 2014 NHL Drafts.
“We have tremendous respect for Douglas as a hockey player and a person,” said San Jose GM Doug Wilson said. “He has been a warrior for our hockey club for the past eight seasons and he has been in the Sharks family for the past 14 years. This deal places Douglas in a quality situation which he deserves.”
Murray, in his eighth season with the Sharks, has three assists and a minus-8 rating in 29 games this season. He has 64 blocked shots and 56 hits. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Swede has six goals and 59 points in 451 career games for San Jose, which selected him in the eighth round (No. 241) of the 1999 NHL Draft.
It is the second major move by the Penguins in a 24-hour window. Sunday night, the team traded highly touted prospect, Joe Morrow, a defenseman, for Dallas captain Brenden Morrow.

I'll take that action, how much is the wager?
Senior Moderator
Who said anything about a wager.

Murray is a nice pick-up and definitely addresses some of the D issues. Although, the Pens are giving up lots in terms of draft picks.
Oh well...gotta give to receive.

The potential big fish on the market is Iginla. It'll be interesting to see if he is moved. I see the Leaves trading their next 12 first rounders for him.
Senior Moderator
I think there may now be only few undamaged brain cells managing the Leaves these days so I don't see them moving anyone to take on a veteran or a big contract. Only person I wouldn't mind them taking a bit of a run at is Kirprasoft(sp???) As long as its only a 2nd rounder or maybe a mid level prospect. A guy like that could really help this team IMO.

Pens were in the market for Iginla but the rumors are that the Sac Kings are in front in the bidding war

Pens have the team now, gotta worry about the now. Pens gave away a 3rd rounder for Morrow and 2nd round picks for Murray, not the end of the world
The sizzle in the Steak
If the Kings make a deadline deal for a journeyman D guy, that may change.
Center, yea, I'd give the nod to L.A.
Hawks have a great team, they are no fluke.
The sizzle in the Steak
If it's only a deal at the deadline for Iginla, then the Kings are DOA.
I know Sutter loves him, and likewise for Iginla, and he's a Deano kind of guy too, but how much to give up for a potential rental, and not to mention the holes that need to be filled on D.
This offseason is gonna be a traders market since the UFA market is complete garbage. I'ts not smart to trade assets now.

No want Iginla, unless the Kings make another deal for a D man.

Shoot-Out is the worse thing to ever happen to the NHL. If they;'re going to keep it its time to start awarding 3 points for an outright win.

great deals by the pens. we didn't give up anyone from our current roster and joe morrow was struggling down in the AHL. there are 4 guys ahead on the young D depth chart so he was expendable. no way we make a play for iginla now, and the price will be too high anyway. (prospect/player/pick).

The sizzle in the Steak
Quick and Crawford both looked horrible.
Hawks look good as always on the offense, but boy that defense never hits anybody. When the Kings decided to actually play, they pretty much lived in the Hawks end.
In the playoffs, if the Hawks go up against a big, physical, grinding type team with a strong forecheck, that will be their doom.
....otherwise, they sure look good.

Kings decided to play 2 periods instead of 1.....I guess that's why they won.

Generally speaking, it was a sloppy game overall and not what I'm used to seeing this season. The 3rd and 4th lines for Chicago typically are the crash-bang groups but in this game, were non-existent. I believe the shuffling around of everyone due to Hossa's and Sharp's injuries may have been a factor.
Still, no excuses. Letting Brown score that late goal was disgraceful. Never should have happened...

Apparently the White House is short on cash and cannot afford a good proper vid feed.
Here are some screen caps:
Two groups of choir boys
The group on the right is from some sport called "soccer"?
The L.A. Galaxy?
...and Obama got Jaroslav Modrư's old "44" number.... Poor Obama.
I know it's 44 because he's the 44th President.
Poor guy gets associated with one of the worst King players of all time.
