Jeremy Roenick thinks the Pittsburgh Penguins need to grow up.
The outspoken Roenick joined the Marek vs. Wyshynski podcast on Tuesday where he said the Penguins and their fans don't take criticism very well.
"Pittsburgh's untouchable, let's get that straight," Roenick said. "If you say something bad about them, they're going to complain, they're going to whine, they're going to revolt against you. The fans are going to bitch-slap you all over Twitter. They're gonna attack you. God help anybody if you're gonna say anything negative about the Pittsburgh Penguins. They're like the almighty."
Despite Roenick's criticism of the club, he still enjoys watching the Penguins play and believes they are the favourite to win the Stanley Cup.
"They're a phenomenal team," Roenick explained. "I love watching Malkin and Crosby and all them. But you can't say anything bad about them and not get backlash, complaining from those camps. I wish they'd just go and play and we can all have fun watching them. They have the best chance to win the Cup."
He did not agree with Mike Milbury after the NHL analyst apologized after publicly ripping Penguins centre Sidney Crosby.
"I wouldn't have apologized," Roenick explained. "I don't know if I would have said exactly what Mike Milbury said, but he did and he had to apologize. I don't know if I could, if I believed it. That's just me. But Mike does things his way."
The former NHL superstar also took issue with the league and how often they fine players and coaches for expressing their opinions. Roenick compared their practices to a dictatorship.
"I don't understand why John Tortorella [got] fined. That's his opinion. I can't stand in the National Hockey League how they can just throw fines when they want when they don't like when something is said. I thought it was freedom of speech in the United State. You can say what you want. And I think the players should be able to speak their minds, too. It's too much of a dictatorship from that aspect, where the National Hockey League tries to control too much."

That's why there's no way they can keep it. If they can move down a few spots and pick up a young D man from say, oh I don't know, Toronto, they will.
Its not like a lot seperates the top 5. Giant, Enormous, Senior Schenn, the 5th pick and a 2nd rounder sounds about right to me. Although I wouldn't do it if I'm Burke as I'm not at all sold Yakupov over the others.

Just propaganda against the favored team, nothing new here. And who gives a fuck what JR has to say?
First rate of refusal yes, and you buy by the round

At the Leaf funeral yesterday a reporter asked Burke why he didn't just follow the Pittsburgh model by rebuilding through the draft. He snapped back "What Pittsburgh model?" and "Pittsburgh model my ass" "They won a lottery and got the best player in the game"
Uh, Brian, maybe you didn't notice that Crosby barely played the last year and they were still one of the best teams in the league.

I like JR, I think he's bang on most of the time. What I think he's missing here is that the Pens (IMO) are simply fighting back because everyone it seems, is bad mouthing them these days. Are they cheap or dirty? No cheaper or dirtier than any other team in the league by my estimation.

While I have my personal hatred of the Pink Things, do you ever hear them being attacked "left and right"? Nope. They are always seem as a marquee franchise run the right way, professional, and plays the game the right way.
If the Pens are being attacked for being dirty and thin-skinned by so many, there has to be some validity.

What I'm talking about is how poorly they were doing in the 2000's, poor enough to get the number one pick, two out of three years in a row. And having the number two pick in 2004.
Get the black and gold out of your eyes and try to talk normal about hockey once in awhile. You are a fan of a team, you don't play for them.
90's dominance?? Cup wins in 91 and 92, that's is not dominance. That's having a good team with a great player for awhile.

remind me again how many cups the caps have?
and winning two cups and having the best team in 1993 where we should have 3-peat isn't dominance??
yes pens sucked in the 2000s but every team goes up and down. we are on another up-swing.
and case in point why malkin is better than ovy...malkin carried the team when crosby was out...you didn't see ovy carry the team when backstrom was out.
WHY? none of them are confident at all.
I don't know - I just think they'll be fine especially considering one of those loses to Ottawa they were up 3-0 in the 3rd before the onslaught began
