It was a great pass for a one-timer

That's maddening! Sure he picked his head up and saw two of his teammates, but a backhand pass into the slot in your D-zone?!??!!?

The first thing I ever learned while playing hockey was never to pass the puck anywhere towards the middle in your own zone. I think I was 7.

Then again, Komarsarik's American, maybe they don't teach these basic fundamentals down south.

Yes. And the coach and GM of the Leafs are also American which could help explain their position in the standings.

Run by a bunch of people who watch Hockey on Versus.

A three-game skid and a mini slump apparently isn't enough to stop Alex Ovechkin from catching up and having some laughs with friend and fellow countryman Ilya Kovalchuk.

After Kovalchuk's New Jersey Devils shut out Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals 5-0 on Monday night, the two, along with Caps teammate Alex Semin, were heard fraternizing during head coach Bruce Boudreau's press conference, just a few feet away.

Ovechkin, who's mired in a bit of a slump - he's been held goal-less for the past four games and has just two in the past nine - was expectedly somber when he addressed the press after the game, but appeared to be in much better spirits not long after when Boudreau was talking to the media.

The incident didn't play well locally, where CSN Washington's Corey Masisak wrote "there was something that didn't feel right about the way Ovechkin and Kovalchuk were laughing and clearly having a good time while the other players showed little emotion after the contest.

"It's frankly unacceptable for Ovechkin to put himself in a situation where this becomes a story," wrote Masisak.

Ovechkin was demoted to the third line during the second period by Boudreau and played the third period against the Devils on the second line.

A video of Boudreau's press briefing catches the coach glaring Ovechkin's way a couple of times with a displeased look on his face. When asked if it bothered him that two of his top players were happily fraternizing with a player from the opposing team after such a big loss, Boudreau paused before saying "I'll reserve my thoughts on that, if you don't mind."

Whether this incident simply blows over or becomes a big deal remains to be seen, but Washington media were openly wondering whether the team's captain should have put himself in a situation where people question his leadership and dedication.

As Masisak mentioned, a lot of players seek out friends and fellow countrymen from opposing teams after games, but shouldn't do it so close to the media horde, and in not such a boisterous matter, especially after such a one-sided loss.

The Capitals have lost their last three games including two 5-0 blowout losses to the Devils and Atlanta Thrashers.

General Manager George McPhee and majority owner Ted Leonsis were also present in the locker room area where the incident occurred.
Much ado about nothing. Yet TSN runs the story. Maybe Jonsei was right and we have nothing to talk about up here.

The local sports reporters around here are assholes, they try to make ANYTHING a problem. The pump it up as the biggest problem, only to make themselves looked good. Because they broke the story.

It was said on the radio this afternoon, they still lead the SE Division and are tied for the lead in the East, they're not the Redskins, /quote from Alan May.

Honestly, its only good news when a GM/coach is fired, a trade is made or a free agent is signed.

Other than that its all bad, all the time. Kind of like living in Pittsburgh.

Sorry I just like to pick on Toronto the supposed hockey capital of the world..

Is Bettman considered the devil up there? Is everyone pissed that he implemented a salary cap?

In some ways, you could say so. The HoF is there.

And the Air Canada Center is pretty cool.

Supposed? It is the Hockey capital of the world, without the winning.

And what does the cap matter, we couldn't win without it either.

And I'm sure you love the Count. He'll make sure you won't ever have to worry about losing. Count Gary will fix the draft for the Pens again once Sid retires.

Fixed and Don't want to get sand in any American's vagina. They're very particular about the US being the center of all that is.

And Yumchah, it doesn't have anything to do with the HoF.

( x 1500 ) + ( x 1007) = Mark Recchi

Joining the ranks of Mr. Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Ray Bourque and Paul Coffee as the only guys to score 1500 points and have over 1000 penalty minutes.

Its ownerships fault. First we had Harold Ballard who ran a team like Al Davis, but worse. then Steve Starvo who was more concerned about his grocery business going under than he was the Leafs. *Did you know we had The great one signed in 96, but Stavro killed it because he was losing way too much money on his grocery store chain.*

And then of course MLSE who even with all there money care more about the profits than they do about winning. So they basically go out and hire the wrong people. Burke looked good and it was IMO a good move at the time to get him but it seems everything they touch turns to

Leafs
Raptors
FC

All owned and operated by MLSE and all a punch lines in their respective leagues. Coincidence? I think not.
