It's going to be a long season for Carey Price. One game in and they're already booing him.

That's why they are GMs and well, you're not. They clearly know more than you.

Kings tried that with Gretzky....no cup either.

Kings have a brighter future now building through the draft than they have ever had with acquiring big players and dumpster diving.

College fund or kids hockey fund

3 seasons a year out here for mights and mini-mights (ages 4-7)
Icetime twice a week (1 practice 1 game) season cost $450...no gear included.

It was like that when I was growing up, I would imagine it's even more now since that was 10 years ago.

In my area they don't let anyone younger than 5 years old on the ice. And 5 year old's have to do hockey school, not league play. Mights begin at 6. and its exactly the same price as you, $450.

So luckily hockey school (October-March) is only $290. With equipment so far I've spent $510 although he already had skates so I got a bit lucky. And since I have a 3 year old as well, he's getting all the hand me down equipment when he starts.

I like the idea of school first. Less pressure and less money invested if he doesn't like it.

The upside is that summer league around here is about $300 so it's a bit cheaper.

If you can find some good used gear that's always a good way to go being that kids grow out of it so fast. Kids gear aint cheap!

6-7 year olds in goaltending gear are always funny to watch.

Poor little guys having to skate all the drills with that gear on....stupid leg pads and glove!!!!

I loved coaching the little kids. Every kid wants to play goalie........once! The goalie equipment for kids is really expensive because they keep growing out of it! The goaltenders here don't get any discounted price either....

I feel worse for the parent who has to get that kid dressed.

Back when I played house league, goalie equipment was provided. Unless the kid had their own. Great idea IMO.

No more goalie gear provided.....

It was a great idea in it's time. The equipment has gotten so sophisticated, it's difficult to have enough sizes for all the kids in the leagues. It's a costly investment for the league itself. Besides, parents spoil their kids now-the boys want masks, not helmets. They want customized colors on their legpads an gloves...it's a racket!

as if it's not tough enough to dress a player

I kid you not....last week one of the kids out on the ice was skating really bad.....so I go up to him and say are you feelling ok today, pal?

He says yea, but I can't skate too well today.
I say hmmmmm.
I ask him if skates feel ok...too tight...too loose?
He says they feel ok.
I look at his skates to check the laces, and to my surprise the kid had the left skate on the right foot and visa-versa!

I said to the kid...Who put your skates on today.
Kid says My dad

Needless to say we swtiched his skates.

Goaltender get plenty of "free-rides/discount-rides" around here.

Goaltenders play for half price in adult leagues....if you are a substitution, you play free.
