I totally agree.

Now they will announce the USA Olympic team....nice touch!
I heard a local announcer say Rangers and Islanders in Yankee Stadium next year. BTW, great game but would have loved to see a Flyers win instead.

I was getting really nervous there, didn't look like anything was going to go in for the B's. The Flyers had so many chances in those last 10 minutes of the game, but as it usually happens the other team goes down the ice has one chance and scores.

They was an article in the globe this morning saying how about 20 thousand people at Fenway couldn't see a thing and had to rely solely on the few screens around. There is definitely a lot of history but if it could have been done it would have been much better at Gillette in terms of a fans perspective.

How cool would it have been if they got a huge screen across the Green Monster yesterday. Props to the stealth bomber flying by which I think is much cooler than a few FA-18s flying by.

When I saw that they put the rink across the bases, I knew it would be hard to see it from the stands. They should have put it from home plate to the outfield and had rink side seats.

NBC keep showing angles from the underhang and behind the posts. Couldn't see crap.

I like the signing because it cant really hurt us; if he gets the scoring going on a line with Krejci or Savard it will help the team out a ton.

How about my Swiss team beating the Russians today in OT! Tying up the game with 30 some seconds left was awesome...the shots must have been about 45 to 20 in favor of the Russians. With that said, the score against Canada will most likely be in the 5-0, 6-0 range again. I am just glad they made it this far!

If that is true, it will be a good game too. It's too bad it couldn't be in old Yankee Stadium though.

while I love the idea of the winter classic....I hate that they keep doing it in baseball parks. Football stadiums are much better suited for it from a seating standpoint, obviously you cant do it during the NFL season, bump it back another few weeks and do it after the regular season ends? Id be pissed if I was one of the people that paid for tickets, only to end up unable to see anything.

^^ I think the whole thing is that they are trying to make it a new New Years Day tradition and dont just want to have it on any day.

That's true-they do want it to be a new years day tradition. I really think they need to go north and have a Maple Leafs/Canadiens game a Argonauts Stadium, or something like that. Something similar to the first outdoor game in Edmonton.

But I also hear talk of other outdoor NHL games. I hope they do not do that. It dilutes the specialness of the New Year's Day game.

Once a year is very special, especially since all hockey fans will watch and not just the fans of the two teams and some.

I am positive that they could sell out a few outdoor games each year but it would take away from the "New Years Day" game.

I agree with the Leafs/Canadiens game...would be quite the atmosphere.

haha that would be like preaching to the choir. Also the argo's stadium is also the blue jays stadium which also has a roof. it would literally be moving the game down the road 1 building.

But they did do the buffalo one in the bills stadium, and sat 71,217 fans. Way better attendence than the 2 in ball fields

^ they have done a few college games in their own stadiums...you can pile a lot more people in....and actually be able to see the game. They said that about 20,000 people paid to sit in Fenway park and watch the game on the screens

a friend of my fiancee went to the celebs vs bruins alum game yesterday. I was just looking through the pictures from the right field bleachers behind the bullpen, and it must have been impossible to see anything that was going on

These events in Wrigley and Fenway are very special. There are no other stadiums like that (I don't think) left like those two. That's why it would have been nice to do old Yankee Stadium.

The NHL does not need to sell itself in
The WinterClassic's main reason is to sell the game to USA.

As a fan, a Habs/leafs matchup would be fun, but the US sportsfans who are not hardcore hockey fans wouldn't watch.

Agreed. The Canadian game would be a second game on another date.

I'm a little shocked that the US evidently produces the best hockey players in the world. I always thought it was Russia.

USA

just got done watching the game (recorded)
Wow! What a great game. Canada played themselves right back into it....and to have it go into sudden death was incredible.

The US deserved it. Canadian goal tending was comical at best and their defense didn't really seem interested in doing anything when the US attacked. They seem to have a wait and see attitude. US defense was great. They blocked shots and didn't give the Canadians any room around the net.

The US couldn't have had more than 4 or 5 shots on net in the 3rd yet they scored on 2. One being a very bad defensive breakdown and the other knucklehead goal tending. Even the winning goal was weak. I guess we can't forget these are just kids with tons of holes in their games.

If they grew up in the US, which they did, they're American's. No biggie. I don't think they would have made team Canada anyway.

To think that Doughty and Taveres could have been on this team.....Not to mention Canada cut Tyler Seguin who's second in OHL scoring. But when your goalies aren't very good all the talent in the world means almost nothing.
