Hmm, maybe but the new salary cap will make it more difficult to see dynasty teams anymore.

I think they have a 2-4 year window of opportunity. And I don't imagine Malkin ever seeing the FA market.

Tough choice for the Pens when that happens...Staal or Malkin. It will be a tough choice if these 2 players keep improving every year. These guys will be both restricted FA's in 2 years time?

They seem to have a pretty decent team on the roster this year...if everyone can stay healthy.

What's so funny...?

Hm. Well if they manage to lock up Crosby and Malkin, then likely either Staal or Fleury has to go. I think I might take Staal over Malkin...but I'll reserve judgment until the end of this season

Mind you, I don't at all think the Hawks are an upper-echelon team. Just a team that has a legitimate shot at making the #8 seed.

Well, I'll take that back if Havlat's out for several weeks.

Not just my opinion...which I stand by but others as well
USA Today ranks the Hawks 11th in the West.

TSN ranks the Hawks 28th overall in the League

You're quoting USA Today and ESPN as the basis as to why you think the Hawks stink...?

And where are YOUR opinions...?

Wow...I may as well be reading the Miami Herald to see what their viewpoints and advice for handling harsh winter climates then.

Seriously though...I'd be the first to tell you if I thought the Hawks would suck this year. You should know that I'm not some irrationally blinded hockey fan. They finally have a pivot for Havlat up front as well as Samsonov on the wing. The second line is set with Toews at center and he looks to be the real deal. Ruutu is a year recovered from his injuries and hopefully can give nearly a full season...Seabrook and Keith are one year older and experienced.

The Hawks look quite improved in all areas to give them a legit shot at a playoff berth.

^^ You don't like TSN? Do I need to post more "expert" opinions for you?

Saying the Hawks are going to make the playoffs....well I guess I should say the Kings will make the playoffs too.

FWIW the Kings are quite improved over last year too...but I don't think they will have a good shot at a playoff berth.

FWIW I think the Hawks will make the Playoffs next year...they have a good prospect foundation...pick up a good #1 Dman and you are good to go.

Kings will be in the playoffs next year for sure as well.

TSN...meh, don't really care much for their predictions either. Then again, I do not particularly follow "expert" predictions in sports.

I don't know your team's roster very well aside from the few blue-chip names that stick out (i.e. Bernier, Kopitar, and Fried-squid)...but, my impression of the Kings is that it is VERY young with very few veteran help.

The Hawks are a bit older than the Kings and have added through FA and trades some decent contributing vets. The 4 lines of the Hawks look pretty good. The only apparent big weakspot is the blueline where they are too young for my tastes.

But, whatever...it's early in the season and I'll quickly change my tune if the Hawks really stumble out of the gate. But, as of right now, I think they are going to contend for a playoff spot.

NHL Network Picked Up By Major U.S. Cable, Satellite Distributors

NHL Network Picked Up By Major U.S. Cable, Satellite Distributors

The National Hockey League has reached agreements with most major cable and satellite distributors to carry the NHL Network in the United States.

The league, still recovering from a devastating player strike that sent TV ratings plunging, agreed to be carried on sports tiers, which will limit how many people will be watching at launch.

In its announcement, the NHL said the network will be available to 75 million homes, but sports executives said sports tiers have less than 10 percent penetration, so the network’s potential audience will be a fraction of that figure.

Other sports networks, notably the NFL Network and the Big Ten Network, have been fighting cable operators’ desire to place those channels on sports tiers. NBA TV, which is on sports tiers, has been stalled at about 8 million subscribers.

NHL officials declined to say how many subscribers they would reach on a sports tier.

“We think that our fans will come and find us on sports tiers,” said Jody Shapiro, the NHL’s group VP of television and media ventures.

NHL Network reached deals with Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, DirecTV, Dish Network and Time Warner Channel.

Most of the programming will be similar to what is shown in Canada, where the network launched in 2001. The channel will show 50 live games in high-definition on the HD feed of the channel.

Games will be subject to local blackout when there are conflicts with local broadcast rights.

Mr. Shapiro said the network will be customized for the U.S. market and U.S.-based programming will be on the air by the end of the current season.

Well, I don't think Tavares is draft-eligible this year...?

So, for a Quebec Nordiques-like finish for Da Hawks in 2008-2009.

Nope, thats going to T.O

Which they'll end up trading away for a 34 year old winger in hopes of getting that 8th seed.

i dont think he is anything special. you could easily find a replacement to put up the same kind of numbers for the same money. not to mention havlet has recurring injuries and has yet to play a full season. imo - i wouldn't build my team around him. plus the hawks have bigger things to worry about... in general getting a winning team together.

Congrats to Mats. Well done. He does deserve more respect than he gets from the fickle Toronto fans.

Now tomorrow I will be back to bashing him.
