I'm with ya. It will be visually weird but I just cant see how he gets passed over in that locker room.
I think Karlsson still brings alot to the table and with the right line-up...
BUT...that's one old Pens line-up. Big trio are 36 or older. And then, you have Jeff Carter who is nearly 40? And Reilly Smith who is no spring chicken either.
Yep, my biggest gripe with Hex was that we needed to get younger and he brought in a bunch of over 30 bums and made us older at the deadline. KD has done a good job getting us "younger" in some aspects, but adding another 30+ year old D-Man is questionable. However he is a "superstar" defenseman so I'm curious to see what he brings to our team. I've watched him his whole career in Ottawa and saw him plenty in the playoffs. He's definitely a good offensive D-man, but the age of those other stars and the rest of this team is definitely my biggest issue. When they won back to back in 16/17 it was because they brought up youth from WBS to supplement our older players and it helped propel them to the fastest team in the league. Now with a bunch of 30+ players we certainly are lacking that youth energy and speed

Yeah, I guess the finished product isn't there yet...so, see what Kyle does with the bottom 6 and inject it with some youth and speed. I think Karlsson is just fine and will go supernova with Geno and Sid. If you flank him with someone like steady, that's a solid pairing. This is not a case of Edmonton getting a Keith on his last set of wheels...Karlsson still has tread left IMO.
Still, the age is a factor and Pens need to get younger soon.

Yeah, definitely a changing of the guard overall from all these powerhouse teams with players who we sorta got familiar with the last decade+...
The top dogs of this era are Denver, Tampa...with the Canes, Rangers, Vegas part of the convo too I think. I want to say Oilers but I never have faith in that team's make-up.
Anyways, it's definitely bittersweet seeing this new iteration of the Hawks. It's likely going to be softened by Bedard's arrival but still, not the same.
Toews was not the most talented player but his drive and competitiveness for a BRIEF time put him in the same stratosphere as Sid...Without him as captain, Hawks aren't winning those 3 Cups. His willingness to be put in any role including shutdown center against the other squad's top line was also just inspiring to watch.
