The match-ups are all interesting. But the one I will be the most interested in are the Cats vs. Canes. Raleigh team is all about speed and it'll be interesting to see if they can get through the physicality of the Panthers forecheck and etc.

Dallas and Vegas is going to be a slugfest I think. Equal amounts of size, skill, and heaviness. I think Dallas does have the slight edge in net but I see Vegas with the deeper/versatile lineup. After Game 2, they basically shut down Draisaitl who was lighting the planet on fire with his goalscoring. Very impressive what the Showers were able to do, IMO.

Still can't believe the Oilers are out. If there was ever a clear path to the Cup -- this was it. No Bolts. No Avs. No Bruins. No Rangers. Clear...path.

Instead, they hitch all their hopes on a 50% PP efficiency but get outscored 2:1 in 5-on-5 play against the Knights. You have 2 of the best players and THE best player on the planet and you can't outscore Vegas on even-strength?!? Unreal. I don't see them getting a Cup anytime soon.

What is next for the Coyotes? Continue to play at ASU???

Coyotes concede defeat after Tempe voters reject hockey arena deal

Tempe says no

The Arizona Coyotes conceded defeat after Tempe voters rejected their proposed $2.1 billion development by a seemingly insurmountable margin, after all of the early ballots were counted Tuesday.

Maricopa County election officials said they counted some 29,153 ballots cast before Election Day. There were not enough same-day ballots left to count to overturn the losing margins.

Tuesday's unofficial tally shows similar trends among the three ballot items ― Propositions 301, 302 and 303 — all of which needed to receive a majority of "yes" votes in order for the Coyotes project to move forward. Each one was losing by a 56% to 44% margin, with the exception of Prop. 303, which was losing 57% to 43%.

The result, if confirmed, throws doubt over the future of the National Hockey League team, which had staked its future on a new arena and a related entertainment and residential project on the western fringe of Tempe Town Lake.

Local opponents of the plan were thrilled.

"This is a victory by Tempe for Tempe," wrote Tempe 1st, the opposition campaign, in a statement about the results. "Tonight, we want to say congratulations and thank you to our fellow Tempe residents."

But for the Coyotes, Tuesday was a bitter and expensive pill.

“We are very disappointed Tempe voters did not approve Propositions 301, 302, and 303. As Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said, it was the best sports deal in Arizona history," said Coyotes President Xavier Gutierrez. "What is next for the franchise will be evaluated by our owners and the National Hockey League over the coming weeks.”

Election workers at the Tempe History Museum said they saw a consistent flow of last-minute voters on Tuesday, with dozens continuing to show up even as storms rolled into Tempe later in the evening.

Reaction:Arizona Coyotes, NHL, others lament voters' rejection of Tempe arena deal

Former Tempe City Councilmember Lauren Kuby, a vocal opponent of the deal, said she saw hundreds of voters entering the polling location after she started camping outside of the building at noon.

All indications were that Tempe voters turned out in near-record numbers.

County elections officials have begun processing the Election Day ballots, but they won't be releasing any more results until Wednesday. They told The Arizona Republic that they expect a second and final batch to be released sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Regardless of how many Election Day votes were cast, the final turnout rate is on track to be the highest in any one of Tempe's elections over the past 13 years. About 32% of Tempe voters had already returned their ballots as of last week.

The Arizona Republic will update this article as more ballots are tallied. Check back for the final, unofficial results on Wednesday.

If there was ever a case for a franchise to relocate, it's the Yotes.

In their defense, they do sell out when popular teams are in town & it is crazy real arena pricing.

also:

The 5,000-seat arena is the home of the men's ice hockey, women's ice hockey, women's gymnastics and men's wrestling teams. It also serves as a temporary venue for the National Hockey League's Arizona Coyotes from 2022 through at least 2025, with seating capacity for NHL games capped at 4,600.

I mean I know Bettman has been trying to force this to work forever. I mean he has to take this seriously now. It just isn't going to work. I am not sure where I would move them but they need to go. I would honestly like to see a team tried in ATL again. I think it can work I just don't think it was handled the first time around. Besides that Quebec comes up but I am just not sure the logistics work there. Too many articles out there saying it won't work. Texas could probably handle a second team and then that makes alignment pretty easy. Not sure what other good destinations might be around that I am not thinking of.

IMO Houston is the best choice. The team can stay in the same division, it has a huge TV market, and can be a great rivalry with Dallas. Plus, they already have an arena where they can play.

They sell out with some games probably because it's cheaper to fly in from cities like Toronto vs seeing the Leafs play in Toronto, and perhaps spending a few days in the sun vs cold winter days in Ontario

It was 300 to go to Glendale to see the Rangers &300 to go to ASU. Seats are smaller & less comfortable & the food sucked.

You think the Leafs failures are because of Shanny or Dubas? If the latter, he may not be a great fit for Pittsburgh. Though, I assume you're maybe thinking anyone is an upgrade over Hextall.

It's hard to say, he built a pretty good team and collected a lot of big names, but Dubas is not on the ice failing either. Honestly it's a very Penguinsesque approach putting too much faith in a few top players and not building much around it

I'm not sure any GM can fix the leaves or the Pens

Yeah, I would be interested to read a good dissection on what happened to Toronto and why they can't get anywhere in the playoffs with that roster.

In regards to fixing the Pens, I just know so long as you have Sid and Geno around, it's fixable -- but needs to be a good combo of youth/speed with the vets. That, or...you go nuclear like the Hawks and completely tear that roster down and refuse to bring back anyone. But, I think Chicago's case, it was necessary as they wanted to hit reset from the ugly controversy. Pens have no such issue and have shown an eerie ability to get generational talent after the other...Super Mario...Jagr...Sid...Geno...it's pretty scary if you think about it.

I also have no dog in the fight & really don't care.

I have no positive thoughts on the Governor of FLA, but don't blame the Panthers for his escapades.

I bet the ratings for the final are among the worst ever, regardless of who gets in.

Regarding ratings, yeah pretty much what everyone's been saying here in Canada
