Yes. We understand. However, you're failing to realize that the top NHL'ers don't play in international play besides the Olympics. So a team like Finland who has a lot of non-NHL players who would tend to play in these tournaments, so they have an unrealistic advantage in the poll. Your logic would state that Filip Forsberg should be ranked higher than Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane in Sochi because he has played better "internationally" over the past three years. That logic is extremely flawed... I'm beginning to think you're either just trolling us, or you don't know how to analyze data. What data am I analyzing? Look up IIHF rankings, they're the ones who come up with the rankings. I'm just giving you the list from them, kinda like if I used the NHL standings to tell you how the NHL teams rank.

Well, the new kid here does have some great points...it sounds like these IIHF rankings are as fluffy as the weekly Power Rankings from TSN, CNNSI, ESPN, and etc.

Do you like Rask that much? Wow. That's one ex-Leaf gettin' some major man-love. You see that, Waldorf...? You should embrace Frattin just as much and mebbe he'll be a better player like Rask.

They aren't even close. Power rankings are based on 1 persons opinion. IIHF rankings are based on a points system given for actual results.

Kinda like, you know, NHL standings, 2 points for a win 0 for a regulation loss, 1 for a game that goes to overtime.

But since you guys are more interested in having real rankings based entirely on opinion, I declare the points based NHL standings "worthless as toilet paper" and officially declare the Edmonton oilers the best team in the league.

Nah, you're taking it too literal in regards to our counterpoints.

The fact is, and is true, the best players do not suit up for International play regularly. So, the squads like Sweden and Finland will naturally do better. Olympics kinda throws that out of the window because it's essentially an all-star team playing for national pride and these players actually do care about the result.

The IIHF rankings takes into account the Juniors, World Championships (when the best players are killing each other in the Cup playoffs), and other tourneys the NHL's best from NA do not participate in...so, yeah...naturally, the rankings will favor your beloved adopted nation.

It's all good. We'll see what happens...

Then all of you and your NHL stars (Doty, Sid, etc. etc.), Rask-ghey-love, and lame IIHF rankings can shove it.

When you read any type of poll or statistic you need to be aware of what data is being used. And no, this isn't like using the NHL standing to tell how the teams are ranked. Haha this is in no way, shape, or form, similar to that. It would be more like using NHL statistics to tell how a country will perform In the next World Junior championships, even if most of those players in the tournament won't be from the NHL.

Here are some quotes from the exact poll you are defending with your life:

"The IIHF World Ranking is a tool to reflect the long-term quality of the countries' national team programme. The IIHF World Ranking is based on awarding points for the final positions in the last four IIHF World Championships and in the last Olympic Ice Hockey Tournament. The 2012 IIHF World Ranking is thus based on the performance at the 2012, 2011, 2010, and the 2009 IIHF World Championship and at the 2010 Olympic Ice Hockey Tournament in Vancouver."

"To enable the ranking to accurately reflect current form, the greatest importance is given to results of the last year's competition. To a lesser degree, attention is also paid to results from previous years."

Therefore, these rankings aren't to predict the results of the Olympics, but the long term success of the programs at events such as the World Championships. The current ranking for 2014 will include the results of 4 World Championships and 1 Olympic tournament, with more weight given to recent tournaments and very little weight given to the Plympic performance 4 years ago.

I don't see why you fail to acknowledge the fact that very of the top players in the Olympics this year played in the world championships the past 4 years, and therefore weren't included in the poll. MEANING you shouldn't use this poll to rank the outcome of the Olympics.

This is very straightforward and logical thinking, I'm not sure what you don't understand... Everyone else on here seems to bein agreement as well. I'm not trashing Finland in any way as a country or a hockey team. In fact, I like cheering for the underdog, so I'd love to see them do well in the tournament.

Then you agree with all of us that Finlandia is the best.
It took you a while, but you have finally come around

Sing it if you know it!!!!

Oi maamme Suomi, synnyinmaa,

soi, sana kultainen!

Ei laaksoa ei kukkulaa,

ei vettä, rantaa rakkaampaa

kuin kotimaa tää pohjoinen,

maa kallis isien.

Sun kukoistukses kuorestaan

keerrankin puhkeaa;

viel' lempemme saa nousemaan,

sun toivos, riemus loistossaan,

ja kerran laulus, synnyinmaa,

korkeemman kaiun saa.

Warms the heart, doesn't it!!!
I can see the flag of Finlandia rising over the medal platform already!!!!
