Coach Miles, even though you're not good enough to win your conference you're good enough to play in the National Title game?
Why yes, SEC SEC SEC. *chomps on grass*
IMO, Auburn can lose one game before the SEC Championship game and still go to the National Title game (providing they win of course). I don't think this is right, but this is what will happen.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU coach Les Miles says the top-ranked Southeastern Conference team should have an opportunity to play in the BCS title game because of how competitive the league has become on the national stage.
LSU won't play in the SEC title game, but Miles says his experience tells him not to rule the fifth-ranked Tigers out of the national championship picture.
LSU has a chance to finish 11-1 and become the highest-ranked SEC team should Auburn stumble against Alabama and South Carolina in the SEC title game.
The coach says he could not have imagined getting a chance to play for the 2007 title before Missouri's late-season defeat and West Virginia's upset loss to Pittsburgh elevated LSU into the championship game.

Totally agree that if Auburn loses to Bama and beats SC, undefeated BSU should go to NT. IMO BSU>TCU considering the close margin of victory over SDSU and Utah's performance against ND.

i dont think a 1 loss team that didnt win the conference title "deserves" to play for the title..
but can it happen? absolutely, especially within the SEC
the computers know our SOS and the pollsters love us...
being left out of the conference championship shouldnt make a difference considering some teams that are up for the NC bid dont even have one
them not playing in the SECG is kind of a moot point...
all that aside, miles is an idiot... completely agree

There is no way that LSU jumps both BSU and TCU (again provided the top 3 stay unbeaten).
LSU deserves to be in the title game about as much as Wisconsin, Ohio State, Stanford deserve to be in the title game.

It's possible they jump TCU. They are tied with them in the computer rankings, which will most assuredly go LSU's way because TCU only plays a 1-9 (most likely 1-10) New Mexico team on the 27th. LSU still plays Ole Miss and at @ #13 Arkansas - who plays @ #21 Miss State this weekend. If Arkansas wins (which is required for this scenario to play out), they have a decent shot of moving up the rankings. *
* #9 OSU certainly stands the chance at losing @ Iowa, and #6 Stanford could lose @ Cal.
Those things happen, LSU jumps in front of TCU in the computers most likely. A lot depends on opponents opponent's records, but it's probable. Especially if Utah struggles or loses @ SDSU.
So, the real test will be the voters. Will they make up 200 points in both polls? Dunno. But LSU has two straight weeks of the prime CBS game to get that attention, and a beat down at home against Ole Miss and a convincing win against Arkansas could set the stage.
But then, you have to factor in the computer demerit for Auburn losing at least once. LSU has to hope Bama pulls off the win at home, so the hit to them won't be as bad since it will elevate Alabama. LSU didn't play SC this year.
You're right - LSU won't get in if Oregon, Auburn and the third team (BSU, most likely) win out. They almost positively won't get in if Auburn wins out - it would take Oregon, TCU and BSU to lose at some point for that to happen. And I would say that the voters would try to manipulate Stanford above LSU, but they couldn't overcome the computers.
The wild card is what would happen if Auburn loses. I'm not sure how much the computers would drop them. Boise State WILL pass TCU if both win out - it's a certainty. But would the drop in all three facets be enough to elevate BSU to the championship? If Auburn loses to South Carolina, yes. To Alabama? It's going to be interesting if that happens. Auburn, LSU and BSU in a three-horse race for the #2 spot, with TCU getting left out, IMO.

^^ everything he just said.
also, saying that TCU and boise wont be jumped if they stay unbeaten..
its already been done a few times this season... teams with better schedules get more respect. period.

Auburn wins both games. Alabama game might need to be close. Probable.
Oregon loses to either #22 Arizona or in the Civil War. Possible.
TCU loses to New Mexico. Almost impossible.
BSU loses one game somewhere. Definitely possible, especially @ #18 Nevada.
Stanford struggles or loses to either Cal or OSU. Possible. May not even need to happen.
There you go. The lynch pin would be the TCU game. They win that one, it doesn't matter. Wisconsin's computer rankings are abysmal, they aren't going to jump LSU. If Oklahoma wins it's last two but loses to Nebraska in the Big XII title game, it might get interesting for Nebraska. But the scenario does exist for a SEC national championship rematch.
And then we'd see the devil finally collect on Les afterward.

Not no way not no how will that happen (LSU v Auburn).
There's Nebraska (which will actually play in a conference championship game), Ohio State, Michigan State and Oklahoma State (also could play in a conference championship game) currently with 1-loss
#940
OSU (both of them) have too many hurdles to overcome. And you'll see Michigan pitch a shutout before you see MSU make up both votes and computers.
#941
2 of those teams play after LSU's last game, it happened in '06 when Florida jumped Michigan.
edit:
I read it, I still don't think it will happen.
If it does I will personally drive to your house and deliver a case of beer.

LSU jumping BSU and TCU is more likely than another team jumping LSU....
Ole Miss and Arkansas is just too strong of a finish. (assuming we beat them)

Oklahoma State and Nebraska have the only shots, and I think Nebraska wins that game if they get there.

just found out LSU will be charging $20-$40 next year to park in the lots that have been free for years.
there goes my tailgating next year..
thats nearly another season ticket...

I try.
Predictions for Friday?
Boise State and Oregon will both win big.
I'm not sure yet what to think about the Auburn v Alabama game, but won't be surprised to see Alabama will pull off the upset.

they have beaten us the last 2 years. and its always a close game no matter their position in our league..
GG Rebel Fans...
and our defense is the only reason we are 10-1... i'd put them against anyone. they are ranked #5 in the country in total defense....

If there was ever a weekend for disaster.. This is it...
The only team that should have smooth sailing is TCU with their easiest game of the year..
I say get ready for mayhem.

Congrats to mah Aggies! Way to top off the regular season! 9-3 record with huge wins over OU and Nebraska and to beat Texas at Texas and make them not even bowl eligible is the icing on the cake!
