I wonder who will be the guy to drop this year. Aaron Rodgers last year went from 1 to like 20 something. Could that be Vince Young?

Looks like the dolphins are being way overhyped this year, they will not be a playoff team.

Draft is Saturday and you're already predicting. How do you explain your prediction of Jax upsetting the Pats in the playoffs?

Well not much I can say about the Jag Pat game, but let's just say I'm pretty confident that the Jaguars will beat the Dolphins, confident enough that when the time comes, Im willing to make a paypal bet with you, ask the others in the nba playoff thread last year, I pay up.

Smith unlikely to be reinstated on one-year annivesary

===============

MINNEAPOLIS -- Onterrio Smith will not be reinstated in June, a source close to Smith told the St. Paul Pioneer Press for a story on Wednesday.

Smith, serving a one-year suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse policy, could not be reached for comment, the newspaper reported. The NFL declined comment.

"That falls under the confidentiality provisions of the program," league spokesman Greg Aiello told the Pioneer Press. "His status is unchanged in that he continues to be under suspension."

Smith checked himself in a three-month, live-in rehabilitation facility in Massachusetts after being suspended. He was stopped in the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport on April 21, 2005 and had the "Original Whizzinator," a device designed to beat drug tests, with him. He failed or missed an NFL drug test in May and was suspended on June 7.

NFL players supsended under Stage Three of the league's substance abuse policy can apply for reinstatement no sooner than 60 days before the one-year anniversary date of the suspension.

"The Commissioner, in his sole discretion, will determine if and when the player will be allowed to return to the NFL," the NFL policy reads. "A player's failure to adhere to his Treatment Plan during his banishment will be a significant consideration in the Commissioner's decision of whether to reinstate a player."

Anyways I guess it's good to see Favre coming back

And what the hell are the Packers thinking signing Charles Woodson to a 7-year contract worth that much? Have you seen his interception numbers the last couple of years? And he's not exactly getting younger...

Chargers linebacker Donnie Edwards said to be dangled as trade bait for only a 2nd rd draft pick. Not sure I believe that. Edwards is one of the best LBs in the game. If he goes, i hope he goes to the Pats and kicks ass. Trade bait due to being in last year of contract. He's been asking for and complaining about getting turned down for an extension. GM A.J. Smith and he do not get along at all.

Leave it to the Chargers to screw up whatever happens.

I read that in my Sporting News that San Diego might draft another LB to replace Edwards. Scott, let me know if you want pre-draft analysis for your Bengals. They list each team's needs and who they might draft. I think TE was a high priority since Kelly is more of a blocker. I think they said in the 2nd round they'll go after one since Vernon Davis will be long gone by the time you pick. If anyone else wants to know what TSN says let me know.

Yeah Doom whenever you get the chance I'd love to see it. Thanks

I've heard the same about picking up a good recieving TE 2nd round and going for a DE first round (since Justin Smith will be a free agent after next season). But who knows I guess...

After we signed Sam Adams I keep hearing rumors that Marvin Lewis wants to go 3-4 eventually like he had with the '00 Ravens

IMO, the Green Bay franchise needs to get a backbone and ditch that dinosaur. I know he's done a lot for the game, but he isn't doing anything for them now, and by keeping him on, they're not thinking about what's best for the team. :shakehead

Green Bay probably needs Favre since Aaron Rodgers or any QB they draft this year won't be ready yet. Plus he can teach them some good things.

Last year was fuckin horrible for the Packers..

They sucked and still didn't get Rodgers any playing time and have No clue what he can do and have no idea what the future holds.. They could of atleast seen what he had and actually put this years draft pick to use.. Instead they left Favre in "hoping" for the miracle comeback every game..

They (Favre and the Packers) should have done each other a favor and split.. The 49ers and Montana split. There's just a certain point in time where it's no longer beneficial to either side.. Save some face and call it a mutual decision..

Yeah I agree, it just would have sucked if he kept leading people on that he was coming back then retires

I do agree Rodgers needs to get some playing time though. I'm sure he's learning a lot from Favre though.

Didn't Green Bay hire a new coach....

Scott,
I forgot the mag at home but I reread the Bengals thing. TE was likely for a 3rd rounder. They were talking O-line since 4 of the starters' contracts are up next year and had them picking Mangold for OSU. They were also thinking CB since Tory James is so old. Can't remember the names. They were looking at DE since the guy opposite Smith isn't working out. They had them picking up Claude Wroten from LSU but I think he plays DT. This is one of those legal troubles guys. Last legal trouble guy outta LSU I remember was Cecil Collins.

Oh man that's the last thing we need is more trouble makers (I wish we would learn a lesson from Chris Henry)

But I know we're talking O-line but I didn't know how serious they were. We signed our RG Williams to an extension and I think we're gonna sign everyone else except RT Willie Anderson since he's so old (just speculation). They've also been throwing around the rumor of drafting the best available in the first round so I wouldn't be surprised if that happend and we got a corner or something.

And that's kind of strange about our other DE not working out. He beat out Duane Clemons last year for the starting role and they keep saying he's pretty good, but maybe he's not as good a pass rusher as they would like

That's for looking that up for me though

Damn, this SUCKS... he was my favorite Jaguar... I wish we had known this before free agency began... but, with a crop of WR's like Jones, Williams, Wilford, Hankton & Lewis... we should be all right...

Here's to hoping he gets into the HOF.

I'll miss you J Smooth.

Jimmy Smith is a big loss, but he needed to go, for the young receivers to step up. With Williams/Wilford/Jones/Lewis we should be good to go...I would really like the Jags to put Chad Owens in the slot and see how it goes..

Just heard about Smith retiring. I've never been a huge fan but I've always respected his talent. Sucks for the Jags but like Amoeba said they've got a lot of young guys to fill his place.

Jimmy was one of the best WR in the league... he is also one of the most respected... and most underrated.... it didnt seem the same watching mini-camp the past 2 days without him there...

He was a good WR...and he probably would not have been overlooked as much if Dallas knew what they had and didn't sit him for his first 3 seasons...then trade him to JAX.

T.O. admits he dishes more than he could take himself

Riiiight...

=============

IRVING, Texas -- Terrell Owens blames the media for portraying him as a selfish player, but in two different interviews this week he didn't seem to be taking a backseat to anyone.

In an interview with Bryant Gumbel airing Tuesday night on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," Owens acknowledges dishing out more criticism than he's willing to take.

"The only thing I can really think of is maybe it was the way I grew up, you know," he said, according to a transcript released Monday to The Associated Press. "I got picked on so much, and it's like I feel like I'm still constantly being picked on."

Owens said he doesn't think reporters are necessarily conspiring against him as much as using him "to gain viewers' attention." As a result, he believes that he is "misunderstood." He said other players have been, too, "but I feel like I have been one of the main guys who've been vilified."

Why?

"That's the million-dollar question," he said. "Why me? ... At some point it does get to me. And I can't say it enough. Dude, I'm human and that's what I'm trying to get people to understand."

Owens also discussed his spat with quarterback Donovan McNabb that eventually led to his release by the Eagles.

As he wrote in a recently released book, Owens said he believes McNabb was jealous of the attention Owens was receiving in Philadelphia and that things boiled over when McNabb cursed at him in a huddle after a play. Owens said he took it as more than something said in the heat of competition.

"When I tried to address that after the game, he blew me off," Owens said. "So, that let me know it's more than just being competitive. It was more than that."

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, Owens said that he and McNabb had clashed all season long. Asked if he could go the rest of his career without talking to his former QB, Owens said, "If that's possible, then I have no problem with that."

Kimmel asked about the Cowboys' game at Philadelphia this season on Oct. 8. Wouldn't that be a good time to make an effort to patch things up with McNabb?

"I will make an effort to beat the Eagles," Owens snapped back, smiling.

Owens is scheduled to report to his first training camp with Dallas Cowboys at the end of next week.
