Looks like that interview we gave him last year got him noticed again. He was our minority interview. There are now 7 african-american coaches in the league.

Wow...I feel sorry for the QBs at West Texas A&M...!

====================

Football: Leaf to coach QBs at West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas — Ryan Leaf, a former Washington State quarterback who was a bust in the NFL, returned to football far from the spotlight Tuesday, joining Don Carthel's West Texas A&M staff as quarterbacks coach.

"I feel very honored to be a part of coach Carthel's staff and a part of an up-and-coming, successful program," the 29-year-old Leaf said. "About a year after I retired from playing, I decided that I wanted to get back to college, where I had the greatest time of my life, and to get involved with college football."

Leaf was selected second in the 1998 draft by San Diego. He threw 14 touchdown passes and was intercepted 36 times in the NFL. Injuries and off-the-field problems added to his woes.

Ex-WSU coach Mike Price, who is the coach at Texas-El Paso, put Leaf in touch with Carthel. Leaf earned his degree from WSU in May.

Leaf is expected to start work in early March. The Buffaloes were 10-2 last season, Carthel's first at the school, and led NCAA Division II in passing offense.

Leaf replaces Wes Phillips, who left along with offensive coordinator Lee Hays to take the same jobs at Baylor.

Leaf will have to do the speech every year on how he lost it and how not to do it and how he blew it all etc etc.

I know its been a while....

Did Holmgren ever own up to the most botched clock management in the history of Super bowls? Last :45 before halftime.

Did any reporters even ask him? Other then the chick at halftime of the Bowl. He wouldn't answer.

Damn the league is in trouble. If there's no cap next year, they'll never take a cap again. That means football will be like baseball. The owners are lucky to have non-guaranteed contracts. They need to yield some revenue to the players.

Do you guys understand the ramnifications of this??? We're talking no cap in 07, work stoppage in 08, no more cap after that, no more NFL draft, no more union.

and the Redskins will the the NFL's yankees. I don't think Dan Snyder will have a problem spending $200-$300 million to field a team of pro bowlers. I don't know of many other owners (well jerry jones i guess) that can do that.

New England also pulls in per the article. What's the difference between the World Champ Steelers and the anemic, pathetic Pirates. The salary cap.

Now that labor peace is among us it's free agent time. We already know that Alexander is staying in Seattle and getting paid. Drew Brees might be coming to Miami first to interview. We've already interviewed Sam Adams (DT Buffalo) and Kevin Mawae (C Jets). Who have your teams looked at?

Hey Doom aren't you guys looking at Culpepper, also?

As far as the Bengals go, we're probably losing Jon Kitna (maybe to the Jets), but he says he wants to try and be a starter one more time before his career is over

It also looks like we might try to pick up another WR thanks to Chris Henry being a jackass, but they've also said they might just draft another. We've done pretty good over the last few years drafting WR's.

We'll take anyone that can throw a ball. Culpepper is a possibility but I think Saban prefers taking Brees with no draft picks lost rather than trade for Daunte. I'm just worried we'll overpay for him with his hurt shoulder.

I think in my Sporting News they said that Cinci was looking for a TE like Aaron Shea. Maybe you guys will go after Randle-el or Givens.

Yeah I thought you guys would take Brees instead of trade.

Your definitely right about looking for a TE. We have Matt Schobel starting now, but him and the rest are blocking TE's. A good recieving TE is the one peice we're missing in our offense, I think. I do like Aaron Shea, though.

And I doubt we'll go for Randle El or Givens. We have Kelly Washington for backup if all else fails, but he's an immature douche if you ask me (a good example is the Bengals/Lions game last december) And I think Marvin likes bringing young guys in to learn from Chad and T.J.

So my money is on us drafting a speed WR in one of the later rounds (like what we did with Chris Henry)

So what do you guys think your teams will go for in the early rounds of the draft?

I'm thinking we'll draft a DT first round, TE second (if we don't go free agent), and either WR or Saftey in the 3rd. (and the rest, who knows)

So what do you think you'll be going for?

Here I'll tell you what TSN told me but shorter:

Beef up the D. Needs at DT and SS. TE, blocker, and WR helps. Krenzel and Johnson are gambles. Kenny Watson is a FA and is valuable for special teams and a spark on 3rd downs but Chris Perry makes him expendable. Shoebel, good hands and speed, but inconsistent. DT needed to stuff run, push pile, and rush QB. Colts' Larry Triplett and Ravens Maake Kemoeatu are worth pursuing. Would rotate with Thornton and Robinson. Might go after Ravens' Will Demps, doesn't have great speed or size but is an enforcer. Needs a SS that can tackle and is tough. Shea is a solid receiver and route runner. Written by Chick Ludwig

This is why we need a sports section. Posts on labor, draft, and free agency are too bunched up. Anyone got admin pull?

I think the only QB we'd take that low would be Cutler but he won't be available at 16. Only if one of the top 3 pull an Aaron Rodgers. They say we liked Brodie Croyle from Alabama for a later pick. Our biggest needs are also in the secondary since Will Poole (3rd year but missed last year from injury) and 2nd year Travis Daniels (average at best CB) are our starting CBs. Sam Madison got cut due to his declining skills and high pay. Reggie Howard, the most expensive nickelback ever, was also cut. We also might go after Offensive line. I like Eric Winston from Miami because he has size, speed (4.9 40), and of course went to the U. He went from high 1st round to low 1st round because his senior year wasn't the greatest. This was probably because of the knee injury that killed his junior year. That year he was a beast.

Now they're saying Brees will go to New Orleans since they'll pay him the most out of anybody in the league. I think he's going there today instead of to Miami.

Daunte likely will be traded to Miami. Apparently a higher up in Oakland says they haven't negotiated.

Lavar Arrington is visiting Miami today. He'd be an upgrade from Seau. Can some Skins fans tell me what's up with him? I know he had issues.

Edge going to the Cardinals.

Let's see how he likes running behind that Cardinal O-line.

He should be decent. Fitzgerald and Boldin did fine getting passes thrown to them with the QB behind that supposedly O-line you're laughing at...

If anything, I think the Cards offence will suddenly become scary...

Is Snyder nuts?!? He's given Randle El a seven-year contract worth $31M that includes $11.5M in bonuses.

Sure, the WR's versatile and can do a few things...but, for that $$$$...???

Lots of moves in 2 days. I know Edge wanted money but damn. I guess Dominic Rhodes will start next year and JJ Arrington is a bust so fast.

Anyone see Cleveland clean up. They got Bentley at C and Jurevicius at WR. Braylon, him, and if Harley man can stay healthy at TE.

Once it was known that Brees was going to New Orleans to interview and possibly sign, Saban intercepted him at Alabama before he left. Can you say hungry for a QB.
