Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Anyone else experiencing this? My phone keeps switching to speaker phone while I'm in the middle of a conversation. I think the proximity sensor is hyper-sensitive cause if a move the phone just the slightest bit -I mean I'm not even removing the phone from the side of my head- the screen turns on and the side of my head hits the speakerphone button everytime.
that is correct
and i read somewhere that they did the benchmark test against ipad
apparently although they both use A4 chips, iphone 4 under performs against ipad
so it concludes that iphone4 does not have 1Ghz clockspeed (or that's what i read)

With the way smartphones are now, IMO I think they're getting diminishing returns as they increase processor speed.
One thing I do notice on the 4, is the browser performs more like a desktop browser, in that the back button actually goes back. Where as on the 3GS and original iPhone it would reload the previous page when I pressed the back button.

Seriously guys, double check if your proximity sensor is working. Make a call and cover the proximity sensor with your finger. If the screen turns off it's fine and
what yer problem is.
If it doesn't turn off then that shits faulty and bring it into the apple store for an exchange.

Now, we're no strangers to spontaneously turning on speakerphone with our faces (though admittedly our cheeks are pretty round), so it's hard to say if this is an iPhone 4-specific issue, but the mounting reports would suggest that it's possible the new handsets sensor is a little bit... over sensitive. Reported issues include accidentally disconnecting calls, throwing the speakerphone switch, and putting people on hold accidentally. What about you? Are you having problems with your iPhone 4's proximity sensor? Let us know in the comments.
Hulu Plus app it OUT. $9.99/month subscription. Details below. I don't know if I'll subscribe but this works on 3G also.

whether it's just another rumor or not, verizon's iphone would be good

I'm soooo sick of hearing that rumor. It's been going on for years! It's always in a few months Apple will announce verizon iPhone. then it doesn't happen when they say it will and then the next day they're back with a new rumor and the cycle repeats itself year after year.
Apple won't release an iPhone that can't talk and do data at the same time. When verizon solves that problem (which they can't with out spending billions upgrading to LTE) then Apple will jump on verizon.

I can imagine the verizon droid commercial now, where they rag on the iPhone 4 and it's antennae issues. that could cause some real damage like those I'm a mac ads did to windows vista....
Apple better get their shit together fast or google's gonna hit them real hard over this issue, if I was google I sure as hell would.

is that the whold CDMA vs GSM???
Been. Noticing a few crashing of apps. Well if you would even call settings an app.
Anyways whenever I switch to edge for the cave I work in, (3G works but just as slow as edge, on the 3GS 3G didn't work at all)
And then browse safari. When I get to the only window nearby to get 3G, when I double tap home and switch to settings to turn back on 3G. It crashes and brings me back home.
It's happened in a few other apps, but not via multi tasking, just loading it.

I occasionally had a problem sending MMS messages from my 3G I haven't tried it on my i4 though. But hey I finally got my Visual Voicemail back after 1 year without it!! My mailbox has been full for a while and I had messages that I hadn't listened to that were over a year old! Once I cleaned that out I got my VVM back!
actually I am VERY interested in Windows Phone 7! If they make a ZuneHD 2 with that OS on it then I'm definitely getting one! Right now it's not better than the iPhone but if they get their ass in gear the could catch up in a year and half. We'll see....
Verizon will launch LTE in 30 markets this year. The have already finished field testing in Seattle and Boston. But, the 4G handsets will be announced at CES January next year, which means the iphone4 most likely won't come to Verizon in Jan.
