FaceTime, yes. Hd recording/5mp camera from iPhone, maybe since it won't fit in the current design

Actually, thinking about it. With the way things are setup now how would an iPhone 4 person connect to an iPod touch user. Or even iPod touch to iPod touch.

Only way would I can think of would be apple pushing out a video call app for the touch and updating the iphone os to be able to connect the two.

Obviously something like skype or that quik(sp) thing would work.

That would mean making it fatter thanthe current design.

That is not possible for apple.

so.. how is iphone4 currently set up? i'm not 100% certain that it is using your phone number as identification for the facetime..

Facetime does use a phone number, if my Google-fu is strong.

an Apple tech told me that facetime connects through AT&T even though you are on wifi..

if that is true.. you couldnt use facetime like we do, on the ipod touch..
they would have to make it a different program all-together.

it's hard to believe it goes through AT&T..
and at one point, mizouse said it goes through apple server

it doesn't even use your 3G or voice from ATT... if anything, i would assume (emphasis on assume) your phone number is just an id or tag and nothing more

facetime is apple's proprietary feature.. don't see any reason why it couldn't be ported down to ipod touch

thats exactly why he said it passes through AT&T.. not fueled by them.. just an ID Check/Pairing sequence.

after all, the facetime feature begins by connecting though a voice call..

im sure it will be confirmed one way or the other when an unlocked one performs/doesn't perform the task..

gotta say though, AT&T's network is shit. 3G works fine in any area that Verizon's 3G does, but when it comes to making calls and getting texts at my school in the Los Altos hills, I've constantly been getting texts 5-10 minutes late. Just this July 4th, we were up in the hills and our friend in a separate car (Verizon) tried to call me (3GS, AT&T) and then my other friend (iPhone 4, AT&T) in the same car, both to no avail. Then he called our other friend, who was in the backseat of my car and he was the one who received the call.

also, sometimes I'll get a voicemail, but no missed call at ALL. the fuck? I explicitly remember on several occasions in the past few years not getting a text message until hours later or the next day, even.

Not bad enough to quite make me jump ship, but the smartphone market is really heating up. In reality one of the biggest reasons why I went with the iPhone is the iPod connectively that allows me to control it from my car's stereo controls.... I can always just pick up an old iPod touch or something.... hmm

Is there something fundamentally different between CDMA and GSM that affects reception? Keep in mind that the two Verizon guys had regular, non-smartphones, not to sound elitist or anything.

It's slimmer because it doesn't have any if the cell phone circuitry.

Im just saying that the size of the current 5MP camera, won't fit in the current size of the iPod touch because of it's tapered edges.

Maybe if they designed the new iPod touch like the 4, then maybe it'll work.

Dick! The iPhone 4 led flashlight app I got yesterday. The free one supported by iads. Fool said he made $1400 in one day.

It's been my experience that dumbphones almost always have better reception than smartphones, no matter the network. No huge internal memory or processors to get in the way of what it's designed to do - make and receive calls.

Now, as far as CDMA vs GSM, the short answer is yes. The long answer hurts my head, and I refuse to discuss it.

I wasn't saying it wasn't going to be. Mean jobs himself said 10s of millions of devices will have it. He didn't specifically say iPhone.

I'm just saying they would have to do something different for the iPod touch.

How are you going to call someone without a signal? You're trying too hard.

how big is the 5MP camera that you don't think it will fit?
ipod touch isn't like extremely thin or anything...

i don't know how big (or thick) it is.. so i wouldn't know..

It won't work because you initiate FaceTime by making a PHONE call.

I'm not sure what that proves. I don't even have that option.

It's by looking at the ifixit teardowns of the 4.

Also not just my thoughts either.
From macrumors.
It is unclear whether the next-generation iPod touch will face a similar issue incorporating the camera used in the iPhone 4, as the camera module does appear to be fairly thick. Apple could obviously address the issue by increasing the overall thickness of the device, which would also allow room for other features such as an increased battery size, but it is unknown whether the company would be willing to compromise the iPod touch's sleek profile. Alternatively, adopting a more "squared off" design such as that used for the iPhone 4 could provide Apple with the needed additional space at the top of the device when compared to the existing tapered design.

on another note, i just read something about apple wrote a code on iOS4 for OTA update that checks your carrier and will disable your internet if you are not using AT&T or something along that line

anyone can confirm this?

Well they said it was open. So only a matter of time.

But surprising that it's allowed over 3G

Actually yes.
I was at a party, she just got hers and was fiddling with it. I asked if she tried FaceTime cause I had one too. She said no.

So then she gave me her number and we tried it.

Don't think I even remembe her name:
