Redo the remotes to better locations. I suggest the ACC.

Happy post-xmas. It was pretty good all around it looks like. I got to eat my first Tur-Duck-Hen on Wednesday.

Some of my more excitable gifts I got were a carhart jacket (can't work in my leather), a creeper and shop stool (tired of laying on my back and sitting on 5 gallon buckets), and a remote start for my truck. Haven't gotten it yet, but I'm getting the 5301 2-way remote start. Should be pretty cool. Thought about going the next step up, but don't really feel the need for an alarm, just the starter.

haha, yeah that was me, i was with my girlyfriend.

and my electrical problem was caused by my amp. It got pulled forward, definitely not from shittys in parking lots, and the power cord were pulled out a little bit and were touching, and was drawing power from the battery at all times (correct me if thats not how it actually works), but once everything was pushed back everything went back to normal.. because of that though, for a while i got stuck with this
-No ABS
-No TCS, not that i use it anyways
-footwell L.E.D.s were always on
-amp was always running
-V.I.P.s could run, but i turned them off
-heater and seat warmers were also always on what i left them, if i forget to turn them off..
these of course lead to my car being dead every morning.. but i'm good now

So I cause my first accident the other morning. Dang it. Backing out of a driveway that had vehicles on my left side, and there were vehicles on both sides of the road. Well, with the vehicles on the side of my truck, I couldn't turn the wheel until I was out in the road, and by then, the truck was already to the other side of the street without me knowing it.

Long story short, I pushed in the front drivers door and the rear drivers "jump" door on a ford ranger. All that happened to the dodge is a dent in the corner of the bumper about the size of a silver dollar. I may look into getting a new bumper ($120) in the spring, but I'm not too worried about it.

I have to talk to my insurance agent and see if I should claim this (being my first) or if I would be better off paying out of pocket. Anyone here know if this will just affect my truck insurance, or will they go after my car insurance too since it will be under the same driver?

Dodge FTW

Oh - and we may be seeing a new member soon. My wife's cousin bought an MDX, and her boyfriend bought an 08 type-s. This spring we'll have to get him out and teach him how to drive it He got stuck at the end of the driveway last night because he was trying to drive with the parking brake on in the snow

I'm getting my remote start put in today too. I was looking into the one at best buy, and when I brought my truck in, they told me it was an additional $190 for installation due to the transponder key and factory alarm on the truck. That made a $350 remote start into a $540 one. The money wasn't an issue, but it kind of seemed like not that great of a deal.

I decided to get the Astrostart Rss-5224 http://www.astroflex.com/index.php?m...&id=21&page=21

Basically the 2 main differences are the Viper had a 2000 foot range, and a 2-way LED remote (with green and red lights next to the buttons) The Astrostart (made by DEI) has a 1 mile (5280 feet) range, and an LCD remote.

Plus, Best Buy sells you a $350 remote, plus $190 installation. I'm having Leroys Customs install the remote start for a little over $500, but they said for that, it will work no matter what they need to put into it. Good deal for me since i need extra modules and such - probably a bad deal for the guy wanting to remote start his 86 tacoma.

BB FTL. Leroys Customs FTW They are just down the street from me, and I always drool over the trucks they have sitting out front. Some people have too much money.

Hey Guys,
I had a quick question. I was just at my dealer getting the TPMS fixed and an oil change. When they gave me the paperwork I was told my front brake pads needed to be replaced and they would "Turn the Rotors" I think I can handle pad replacement myself, I have read the DIY thread on here, but do the rotors need to be turned? I don't think I have the experience to do that.

Don't worry about having the rotors turned if your not getting any vibrations. Actually, I believe that newer rotors aren't the greatest to have turned because they aren't as thick as they were 20 years ago.

Basically they just want to shave off a layer of the rotor so you have a smooth surface again. Only problem is that your rotors would be a little thinner, and more prone to warping. As for it being a DYI -that would only be the case if you worked in a shop and could do it yourself. There is a special machine for doing that - not something you can do on your own due to the precision of it. It would be like saying you can balance your tires on your own without the equipment.

Thanks Glow. I have no vibration when braking so I think I'll get new pads online and install myself. Although the car did pull an unusual stunt last night on the way home from WB Acura. I was taking the 61/694W ramp to get on to 694 westbound and the right lane of traffic was slow for all the people taking 35E north. So I have to move from traffic moving at 20mph to 60+mph traffic on 694. So I put the hammer down to get in with the fast moving traffic and eventhough the road looked dry the VSA was still kicking in trying to keep the wheels from spinning. I get up to 60mph and the AT is still in 2nd gear so I move the shifter to SSM and try to get it to shift to 3rd. Didn't happen so I hit the warning flashers and slow to about 40 and am thinking about getting off at Lexington and turning around and going back to the dealer. Instead I pull over put it in park and turn it off then turn it back on and it is fine. No warning lights ever lit up on the dash so I am not sure what happened.

If you look at your rotors and they look smooth run your finger across them from the center to the outer edge. You will want to feel the inside and outside of the rotor to determine if it is smooth. If the rotors are smooth, you don't need to turn them. If they are grooved, then you better get a turnin'. You don't have to worry about rotor warp unless you are really close to the minimum thickness, in which case they would not turn them, they would make you buy new ones. And no, you can't turn the rotors yourself, I've done it, and it is a special machine that has to be used and can cut off thousandths of an inch at a time.

The purpose of turning the rotors is to provide a smooth surface for the new pads to mate to so that they have 100% contact from the day you install them. You can do without turning the rotors as long as they are smooth on both the inside and outside.

Pad replacement is pretty damn easy, but make certain that when you push the piston back into the caliper you open the bleeder valve first so that you don't jack up your anti-lock system and have to spend thousands getting it fixed.
