haha, that made me lol...I figured. You need a good muffler / exhaust setup to mask the cacophony that is this cars exhaust.

It really is true. I would of went 3" if I thought it was still gonna have the valve tapping but good thing I didn't because at WOT the 2.5 is loud on its own!

The AF is actually more stable it seems after the downpipe, still lean at WOT but that's expected. We will see what Vit can do.. Hopefully I get over 200!!

Yea, I've been afraid to crack open this exhaust since the day I heard the first video on youtube. Never in my life have I heard such an ugly motor...literally every other car in the world sounds better. Vtec is great, but that's it. Sad part is that the k20s sounded great.

dude, you're car is running waayyyyyy too rich when flooring it...once you hit vtec its in the 10s, lol...also, this intake is the shizz. Your IAT was going down as you were flooring it, which means fresh cold air gets to it. Btw, if it was 87 degrees when you took this video, then an iat of 91-93 is pretty good!

I had a big response then my phone crashed.. So I will just say:
Yes the intake is great and the IATs are impressive.
Yes my car is running WAY too lean.
I was turning into my neighborhood when I decided to give you a WOT. Be thankful! It was a last minute decision so I didn't rev match lol

*the valve tapping sound is only noticeable under heavy throttle in the lower RPMS. Other then that it doesn't sound too bad.

Wait, are you sure? I thought higher afr = lean; lower afr = rich

From wiki:

For acceleration and high load conditions, a richer mixture (lower air-fuel ratio) is used to produce cooler combustion products and thereby prevent detonation and overheating of the cylinder head.

Lol it was just a more descriptive version of what I already said.. damn phone google app closed right as I was hitting submit reply!

And about the Rich vs Lean.. shit man I dunno.. lol

On a positive, the drive to work was pleasant.. the hiss really isn't a bother.. overall the exhaust sounds way more mean and ballzy.. I would recommend it to anyone. Fair warning though, free-revs AWFUL, cold start AWFUL (for like 20 seconds) - under load it sounds like it wants to battle!

I don't really free rev the car anyway so I'm good! I might go with the Invidia, since it's cheaper...but that borla sounds aggressive as hell with the s/c and catted dp.

I don't either really but I know how people like to use that as an example of how the exhaust sound.. which doesn't make sense to me.. the only cars I have ever liked the exhaust during free-revs are V8s..

That Borla really surprised me.. I was actually watching the video going.. wtf that got loud lol

Yea, I still think the Borla is better and looks more aesthetically pleasing...I might get it and add resonators (too early to tell). You should look on the 2g TSX forums for exhaust tips. They have the same engine, but they've managed to really make it sound clean and more luxury car like.

Has vit mentioned anything about tuning / the car that's worth sharing. Wondering what's his take on our cars.

They have all pretty much had to do custom work right? I dont remember there being any cat/axlebacks available except the CT-E one and it got discontinued I guess cause it didn't give any power gains.

He hasn't sent me a starter map back yet. I am assuming it's the same as the Civic Si just Honda likely used a different ECU due to us having a better out of the box tune than them at least in regards to the rev-hang.

yea, they're all custom...but shows you what different muffler combos can do. Here's my fav:

I mean he's been prompt enough. I am cool with it because he tried to send me a 2012 civic si one, which I am sure he had saved for a starter map.. but the ILX one he doesn't have any maps for so I am sure it will take some more time to build the map.

I am very satisfied so far. I am sure my level of satisfaction will only improve when the numbers come back!
One guy on the Civic forums claimed he gained 18whp with just the DP (no other mods) and his was catted. Now, I don't expect 18whp but anywhere over 10 is a value for $500

My knock level was looking pretty crazy without the tune.. even under moderate driving he got it way down.

To be more specific we're in that phase where he wants to see the regular driving side to tune first, so no WOT.

The Rev hang is non-existent and for whatever reason it's actually taking some getting used to, having to REALLY rev match during normal driving again.. it also feel different coming out of 1st.. I wonder why.

Welcome to the world of tuning. The car was meant to be driven casually, he's tuning it to be more of a sporty drive. He also increased throttle response which probably is the reason why 1st feels so different.

Lol, I guess I never noticed those types of changes on my old Cobra because it was already all brawn and no brains.. (well besides the motor.. the motor was a work of art)

Yeah, I mean it definitely responds at a moments notice.. it's kinda like "Yes, sir! More Revs, sir! Yes, sir! No more throttle sir!" lol.. I was noticing the rev hang became less noticeable with the DP and intake but now it's all up to you to drive the car. I am sure I'll prefer it that way after a month of driving.. I am just so pampered by how easy the ILX was to drive.

The ilx is definitely a very easy car to drive...I know it'll be hard getting used to quick shifting when driving casually.

Lol, jk...I would never suggest leaving the one you love. It's hard to find 'the one', though at your age, you'll likely change drastically from the person you are now.

LOL! #teamsoblessed

You're going to be very satisfied with the intake.. it doesn't make all the noise at idle like my old intakes on other cars have.. idle sounds about the same but when you get on it... WOOSH BUUUUUUUUUUURM WOOSH BUUUURRRRRRRM

I think it's because the tubing is so long so it's not really pulling hard until you go WOT. Which would also explain why my IATs dropped so much @ WOT.

If you lived closer I'd help you install it.

Install with friends.. It's really much too easy to pay someone to do it. Just take your time and be patient.. there is little to no chance you could break something and you have me for questions/troubleshooting.

The colder the better the AEM CAI intake works... it was 57 out and I was pulling 60-64F in IATs... No budging all normal driving. It's unfortunate that TX will be much hotter here in the coming weeks...

On the good end of things my GFs laptop (what I am using to work FlashPro) didn't have a functioning battery but I got a 9Cell for $30 in! So I can monitor on the go and it will make the upload process much easier..

I was planning to hit the 1/4 track this weekend however the track I wanted is doing a Mustang only event... BOO. We may goto a road course instead next weekend.. You all know I am not a fan of how the ILX handles but I may order the Sway Bars and have them in before the track day.. I NEED to be able to keep up/beat my friend's GTI! Gotta save face here!

Back to the tuning process.. my datalogs went back to Vit just now so we'll see what he says next. Hoping we can have a eDyno in by Tuesday! My AF ratio is much better already but it was only under normal load.

thanks for the update. FYI, don't record datalogs with the laptop connected to the flashpro unit, it's not as accurate, unfortunately. Just unplug the flashpro from the computer and hit the datalog button.

Good to know! Thanks, sir. I am excited to see what my car puts down.. if I don't hit 200whp on the stock exhaust I am going to submit the order for the Borla catback...
