The Borla muffler? Too loud or not the right sound?

It's a good sound.. Like a formula race car.. Inside and out

It's just so loud and drones so loud it's an instant headache.. A 3" catback would of been quieter.. I just picked the wrong muffler/resonator combo

I hate to waste $160 but I think I'll need to goto a different muffler :\

My GF doesn't mind it but she was used to her dad's Mach 1 and my Cobra.. Maybe do an eDyno tonight to see if there was a gain.

The replaced the rear piping with 2.5" tubing and did a turn down like stock, until I get around to cutting my bumper.

Id ask the shop what they suggest since getting a specific sound is going to be hard to find.
Or just leave it.

I bought Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers since they are quiet. On a boosted car not sure you would want the baffles, but it will work well with mine.

Where are you guys putting that second muffler? lol jk jk

Maybe you should just do the Borla exhaust all the way up to the cat. Sounds great on a 1.8 civic.

I personally have never been one to enjoy exhaust systems with an s-bend in the muffler. Always preferred straight back systems like the infamous n1. Thats what I was looking for when I picked up the DC exhaust. Ill be doing the same this time around I figure.

This is why I prefer getting a pre-made cat-back. They've done the legwork to see what works / what doesn't in terms of sound a power balance. Not to say you can't achieve the same on your own, but it'll require much more trial and error. Sorry to see you lose some cash

Regarding straight through designed exhausts, the Invidia N1 and Q300 all feature a straight through design, which is why I'm partial to them.

LOL, for clarification I basically added a resonator to the Borla exhaust because the Borla catback is only the muffler.. It's incredibly loud.. too loud. So in short, even though you "prefer" them to do the leg work for you.. don't buy the borla catback.. I think a lot of it has to do with having the Downpipe and the exhaust dumping behind the bumper.

**also imagine how loud the beta CT-E tester's borla was.. that was a design with 2 mufflers.. Their catback only has 1 muffler now. I didn't really lose the money.. I just picked a resonator/muffler combo that is entirely too free flowing.. I am gonna try a resonator in the mid-pipe.. hopefully that will quell some of it.. but I think the bass is only going to remove by going directly out the back vs dumped behind the bumper.

I am kinda at the point where I want a RWD car again.. this car has reinspired the modder in me and I really want a RWD car. I may have to consider stripping my car down to stock and selling all the parts. Decisions.. and indecision.

Trent you can eliminate some of the drone by adding a hemholz resonator to the exhaust. S2000's have isssues with drone and some of the quieter exhausts have copied what honda did and added it to reduce the amount of drone.

Look up a pic of a stock S2000 exhaust and you will see what Im talking about its a short pipe sticking out of the midpipe between the cat and resonator.

I think N1 is or was a racing series in Japan (kinda like group A, one make, Touring, etc) and straight through canister style mufflers were used on these cars or allowed in this class. Spoon, Apexi, J's Racing, etc all make or have made N1 style exhaust systems as opposed to an oval style or straight pipe.

Hopefully it will show up next week and then I can install the following weekend.. then the LONG whack tuning stage begins. I have some doo-doo clips of my awful loud exhaust lol.. I will try to get something going but as you guys know I rarely follow through on the video because it never seems accurate enough.

Id put a camera in your driveway watching the street. Then drive up the street and into the driveway so we get the full effect. At some point the audio should get a good distance and give you your respective sound.

Get a video starting infront of the camera so we can hear the start up too.

Of course I become a director once my car with a decent exhaust is gone.

Uh oh. Now someone else wants an air ride set up.
More power to ya. You may become the first and only air ride ilx. Probably the only 2.4 mt owner that wants to.

Springs are in sanfran right now. Just a couple hours away. Should be here in the next couple days.

Why do you guys want to bag your ride? Just curious. On more performance oriented setup, isn't a spring / shock / or coil setup better?

You should call to confirm because the 3.15" pulley requires a smaller belt.

I wont be taking that route, so ill let chinoxii answer that one.
You would be correct. Static suspension, I.e. coilovers, are more performance oriented.

Nope. I am gonna send the whole damn box back if they screwed up. I told him it was either it shows up soon or I want my money back. If I have to wait just for the right pulley let alone having to send one back.. Ill be so incredibly frustrated. I know that SOUNDS petty but.. Idk we will just see when it shows up.

What made you tell them soon or nothing?
Ive heard of drop shipping companies sending out wrong products just to get a tracking number going to prevent a refund on an out of stock item.
I couldnt imagine these guys pulling that.
Hoping for the best!! Wanted to see that beast supercharged!!!

I am pretty sure that is exactly what heel toe did.. The shipping label is created @ 12pm but hasn't had any activity.. If it doesn't update tomorrow then I am calling to cancel. I am just not happy in a lot of ways at this point with this

I hear you. The awkward state of just not understanding whats going on due to lack of communication on their end is frustrating beyond belief. Feels like your time and money are being wasted because someone else is lagging.

Good luck!

haha, see all of that for nothing. Did he tell you you're getting the right pulley? As a frame of reference, I just ordered from Swarvkski on Thursday night, it's now Weds and I still don't have shipping on an item that was in stock. All I have is a order processing confirmation. Like seriously, these guys are pretty big, so what's taking them so long. I can understand a mom and pop taking time to catch up with orders, but not them. Even Neiman Marcus is being a pain with me right now. I ordered something on Thursday from them too, only to find that there was a free shipping offer that I forgot to enter. I literally sent an email to them 10 minutes after the order and they said they would refund me after the order shipped. The order shipped on Saturday and it's weds and my account still hasn't been credited. Online order sucks ballz.

There are a couple ways to prevent this from happening.
Before purchasing contact the seller to ask about stock. Also contact the actual manufacturer and ask if they have the product in stock.
If the shipping company says yes but the manufacturer is back ordered its bad news.

I also google them and type in "distributors name" sucks. Just to see of people are talking them.

Speed and Power. I hope your shipping issues are resolved as trents.

Springs are out for delivery today. I dont want to go to work now. LOL

His website even says that a retune will cost money when going from N/A to boost. Heck, he used to have me pay when I would add parts to my n/a tune. i.e. go from one header to another, replace the im, etc.

Having the option to raise/lower your car just pressing button/s. Also, nowadays, bags are more likely function the way coilovers do. I'm actually getting a BOC (Bag over coils) with camber plate upfront and adjustable dampening.

N/A to FI is too big of a change. If you add something not too big I don't think he would mind doing a quick retune.. lol been there done that and yea you gotta pay to play. It is really frustrating sometimes but once you finish your build, it will be worth it. VTEC + S/C WHINEEEEE!!!

P.S. don't sum up all you spent, do it after you finish your build lol
