The Borla XR1 muffler is the same muffler used in their cat back. It's too loud so I am using a vibrant resonator to tone it down. Saving over $250.
To each his own in this case.
Hmmm, maybe I should do the same. That's a significant savings.Originally Posted by Trentimus

The muffler was about 160 the resonator was about 77. If you don't mind it being a bit louder you can get a smaller resonator for much cheaper. My shop is charging me $100 for all the muffler welding and pipe bending. That makes my catback about $350.. I can't imagine there would be a significant variance from that to any other 2.5" catback. 5HP, better sound.. I am happy haha.. I will let you know how it goes.. I bet it completely kills the weird rasp I get now, post-downpipe.

Borla muffler 40842S
Vibrant Resonator 1141
Those are what I ordered so you can check them out. I ordered from Summit Racing because I have used them in the past and they had the best combination of price and free shipping from a reputable dealer. Borla is hard to find cheap.

They're bending piping for your axleback right? I don't even care about the reduced piping diameter. If I can get a good sounding exhaust by replacing the stock muffler / resonator, I'll do that. I want the quietest and deepest sounding exhaust. Something that sounds refined and characteristic of a luxury car.Originally Posted by Trentimus

Sounds like you guys care far too much about the sound of your exhaust.
Any do we have one thread for three different tuning solutions. Bolts on tuning, NA motors, and forced induction should be three different threads. What a clusterfuck. lol An NA motor is not F/I. An F/I is not bolt on. A strictly bolt on tune will be NA but most tuners bragging NA have far more than just bolt ons.
Maybe these specific threads will crop up as people narrow down the ideas they have for their ilx.

It's pointless when there are 4 people with cars that have performance mods.

The thread title and underlying content is definitely a confusing bit for sure. I think given the fact that there aren't many modifying the car, a central thread dedicated to engine modifications was warranted so as to not have 1000 threads. Once are sub-forum gets reorganized, then we'll definitely need to heed your advice.

Well it isn't pointless trentimus. I come from other car forums. These forums demand strict guidelines on making threads because of how many threads already exist. These forums have sections for Bolt On talk, Forced Induction talk, and NA talk. Just three threads that will greatly reduce the amount of pages in THIS thread.
When I thought "I want to see what the NA interested tuners are doing", I can't because there is one thread for NA and the complete opposite, F/I.
The title is just silly because it combines opposite ends of the tuning spectrum into one thread.
And I guess the exhaust is just another way Im out of touch with the way you guys tune. I could see that from the entire two threads based on a new muffler ti. Don't get me wrong though, I love just the tip as much as any other dude. lol
But we went out and looked for an exhaust that compliments our tune and driving style. Once we found that we hooked it up. There was no "oh it's too high sounding, get a resonator. Oh man, it is kind of stock sounding, I'll just cut off my muffler and buy one that sounds different." No way. If we didnt like how the car sounded it was the motor that needed tuning, not a new piece of piping to SOUND meaner... just my 2 cents. Take it... or better yet, leave it.

This forum just isn't active enough in performance modding to merit the split. We did this with the sole intention of not cluttering every thread with our mod-talk. I understand where you're coming from.

*delurk* Agreed. It is just a matter of time before we hopefully need that level of organization. But with that being said, I personally like all the modding discussion in one thread while we are a relatively small community. It keeps the conversation going, and the discussion can inspire people.Originally Posted by Trentimus

But it will get to the point where there are enough people interested in moding their ILX to warrant sub forums. We are just not there yet.

Hello gents, just a heads up. I installed a K&N short ram:
http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/...psd596faaf.jpg
It's pretty loud but more importantly the throttle response on the low end seems to be more immediate (At least I hope that it's the case and its not my excitement that is getting the better of me)
The install was super quick and is a perfect fit. No modding or compromises. Just be careful that you don't cross thread the PVC pipe (for the vac line).
Part number is 69-1019TS if anyone is interested.

That's what Im talking about! Awesome
Here is your picture so everyone doesn't have to click.

Looks great. K&N makes a great heat shield too!
I may go this route if I can get a deal.

yea, don't hit the poor house on us. Only if you think you can manage. Of course, you could get it and then resell it, since no vendor is selling for as low as you bought it.

I can definitely be fine without canceling my order but I have always been one to have a pretty nice cushion of cash savings just in case of something going down.. That deal had me pulling the trigger a bit prematurely on the S/C lol so I dug into it a bit.. I am sure it will be fine in a few months but I just get bothered looking at my savings right now, knowing everything is gonna change in a few months. -___- put off new place for SC? Maybe

I'm not trying to make it obnoxious loud or anything. I plan on getting a quiet exhaust / dp combo. You're right about trying to make the car sound more luxurious. Although I feel the integra and rsx never really exuded it...maybe because so many people tried to make them loud and what not.

Its luxury with sport influence. Acura just wants to keep Luxury before Sport because Honda believes they can control that market.
No problem modding your car to a more sporty style. A lot of tuners will just think you have high taste. haha

Same. Have you ordered? Im leaning toward just some mild springs instead of coilovers so its not as much of a waste when I ditch them for bags.
H&R sounds good to me around 2 and a half shipped.
Ive been itching to get under this ilx!

Did you check heel toes, I think I got it quoted for a little less than that shipped. I keep waffling back and forth between those and going for the hfp suspension.

I don't know. Id go H&R if they offer a warranty. I understand the HFP if made for the ILX would be the same damn thing but it will void the warranty on the suspension if they are made for the civic.. that is if any of them come with warranties in the first place. Originally Posted by spdandpwr

Warranty on suspension is always a great idea. Intake, exhaust, pretty straight forward so I dont mind.
Ive been looking for cheap intakes to just utilize the elbow with the maf sensor housing and make my own intake from there. Found an HPS intake for the 2011 1.8 civic that should fit as well for 1 and a half. I can spruce it up a bit with a better filter and larger velocity stack if need be.
Sounds like a better idea than 300 at least for the K&N made for the civic.
Only K&N appeal is IF it is cali carb legal... but since id take it off anyways before hitting the dealer/smog I guess why care.

I sent an email off to DCSports to see if they are looking for an ILX.
DCSports have big name with integras and civics. They came into the honda race scene when the Integra got big so naturally they are where I turned for parts for the teg.

I've settled on the H&R springs because I know if I get coilovers ill max them out. Not while shes leased. I have to promise her that much.
May clip a coil off each spring and see how it sits. When it settles if its even Ill be happy.

Decided against cutting into the springs. I may go with 19in rotiforms so I could probably use that extra half in down the road.
Springs this Thursday.
Then intake. Not sure on the brand on intake tubing. But I want to go 3-3.5 diameter to a Blox Racing Velocity Stack with an oversized K&N filter.
Megan Racing downpipe.
When that comes in I'll go to Magnaflow and figure out their price for a catback with a stock looking turn down probably 2.5 all the way back.
Depending on the quote for the exhaust I'll go that route or save for some cosmetics.
Cosmetics wise I'm looking at 19x8.5 +35 Rotiform BLQs in either Machined or Gunmetal.
Get some nice lugs to set them off.
Stock front "under spoiler"... front lip.
Not decided if I want to play with the front grill. I may just leave it but I might grab the hybrid lower air dams. Those are sick. I'll probably cut out the backing and maybe even fab a duct on the driver side to push air toward the intake.
This will all last me the next year or so. Tax return will probably bring the wheels in. Woooo.
