+1 on post wrap.. get some PVC ones so they last longer
I have PVC post wraps on my railing posts, the entire thing is maintenance free. No way I can install them on the support posts without taking the whole deck off.
Is this a cutting board or a countertop? This thing is an absolute monster, biggest one I've ever done. Please note, not arranged completely or glued up.
Amazon knock-off level instructions that just show a finished product along with many warnings about how it's known to cause cancer in the state of CA.
It will include a small bottle of glue along with a single piece of sandpaper. I'll throw in an allen wrench just to mess with you on where you should have used it along with a note saying good luck!
Quick update, I'm not making nearly the progress I want to make but whatever.
The nightstands are just about done. Cabinets are painted and ready to party with the bases attached and prepped to receive the tops. The tops have been sanded and the bottoms finished with shellac (no pics, I forgotted) as it's an easy finish for something that will see zero wear. The top surface is ready to get a hardwax oil finish that I'll get on there sometime this week. The knot holes you can see won't ever be seen as they'll be under the tops. Last thing to do is knock out two drawers quick and get those installed. Plan on doing that this week as well. I'm going to make some custom leather pulls rather than buy handle pulls. Should hopefully be pretty cool.
Other than the screws you see in this pic to attach the top, no screws were harmed in the making of these nightstands.
Next up is this behemoth of a cutting board that's getting through the initial glue up. I couldn't possibly glue this thing up in one shot and have even a remote prayer of it staying flat so I'm basically doing it in zones that I'll domino together to get it to line up. The last of those zones is drying as I type this. Final glue up will be tomorrow and then we sand. @thoiboi I took a couple liberties with the design pattern to maximize material yield but it's all still 100% walnut.
Speaking of sanding, I bought two new sanders to replace the POS $50 dewalt I have from HD. Super excited for them to come tomorrow, just in time to help me sand this bitch.
What Dewalt did you have, and what did you replace it with?
I have whatever 5" random orbit Dewalt you can get at HD for $50-$60. It's nothing all that special but has been getting the job done. The downside is that it's super easy to stall the pad (not much power), the dust collection sucks (not in a good way), and the thing vibrates like crazy while using it.
I replaced it with a Bosch GET65-5, this thing looks like an angle grinder and will eat material super fast. It has a turbo mode which is like Festool's rotex mode that basically makes this into rotary tool (like for car polishing) but can go into normal random orbit for less aggressive work as well. I turned it on to try it without sandpaper and there's minimal vibration and the dust collection seems super awesome, I can feel air blowing out the dust pipe and I don't even have a vacuum hooked up. The only downside is that it's not great for finish sanding. This thing is the same as a Festool RO125 but costs ~$250 less.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep it yet though, we'll see if the pairing of the Bosch and Dewalt will be sufficient.
I've got a Dewalt as well; I wanted a Bosch but there wasn't anything available locally and I needed it asap. The one I have (DWE6423K) is pretty good, but I do notice that the dust collection system on it is terrible, even with a vacuum hooked up to it. Thankfully I haven't stalled the pad (yet).
Yup, that's the one I have too and, like you said, nothing available locally here either I had to order online. Festool I was able to find in store.
My guess is that you have stalled the pad but didn't realize it, it's not like stalling the motor. Put a sharpie mark on the side of the pad and make sure it rotates, doesn't take a ton of pressure to stop it from rotating.
Getting close to wrapping up these two builds. Next up will be a couple small things before I go into the crib build.
First up, the night stands are nearing completion. The drawer fronts are dry fitted but still need to get the final sand and finish. Other than that, ready to go. They'll get finished at the same time I finish the tops which should be tomorrow at this point. I'm happy to finally have this off my plate lol.
Next up is this behemoth. Final glue up completed and it's ready to get the final sanding done before finish and off it goes to Cali. Sanding will happen tonight and I might get it oiled up tonight as well, we'll see how it goes. @thoiboi I hope you're ready for a hefty shipping charge, this thing is a chunker.
Now You got me thinking... you plan on XUKP- both sides since It’ll be reversible?
It's already beveled on both sides.
I'm going to oil it today and it should be ready to send out to you either Sunday or Monday. The oil needs a little bit of time to dry before I can put it in a box.
