Shiet...get yourself a flux core welder and start dreaming up your own bracketry and you'll be fuckin set for life.
Glad to you sold it...curious, what was the investment vs return?
Definitely. The mixed materials and simple wood is very much in style.
Definitely. It also fits my style which is why I liked making this one...also it's relatively easy to make lol.

Then I have to learn to weld... There are a ton of people on Etsy selling legs of all shapes and sizes both custom and off the shelf for pretty inexpensive so the cost for me to buy a welding set up and spend time/materials learning it probably isn't the best way to go right now.
The cost of materials for this was in the neighborhood of $60-$70 plus labor to manufacture, sale price was $150. Probably made ~$50 on the deal. I purposely sold this one for less cash just because it's a prototype made from pine.

Curious about J's questions as well.
Yup. Next version of this table will be made with hardwood and go for a lot more money than this one. Probably in the neighborhood of $300-$400 depending on type of wood used. My next one is likely to be white oak followed by either cherry or walnut.

See above, I don't think it's worth it to me to get into that right now though I've always wanted to learn to weld...

Duly noted, man...
funny, I'd bought and returned a flux core 3 times before...this last time I was like fuck it, I'm learning how.
Glad I did...it's fun.

I have a sick live edge walnut slab that's going to go on a coffee table in early spring. Base is already made so we're almost there.

To be fair, the legs in this build aren't at all welded, they are just bent steel with some mounting holes drilled in.
That would be the only way to ship it lol. Would have to go in a crate anyway.
The person that bought the table picked it up yesterday and loved it. She said she'd been looking at Room and Board and a similar table there would go for ~$800 so she felt like she got a steal.
So, thoi, even with shipping, it would probably be cheaper...unless you want real hardwood then it would be around the same price (I think, no idea of actual shipping cost) but you'd have a real SamDoe1 original, and one of the firsts. Might be worth something someday (probably not though).
Back in business for the season! First project going through is a cedar outdoor side table for a client. Solid cedar construction, no screws used other than the ones to hold the top to the base. Just have to do the final sanding at this point so should be done today or tomorrow for delivery! Here are some progress pics, I'll post the final when I'm done sanding.
Yes sir. I invested in a Dowelmax jig over the winter and it is AWESOME. If you don't have one, you should consider it. It's basically the poor man's (aka me) Festool Domino.
Here's a pic of the table mostly completed, the bottom shelf isn't on but you can see it in the back leaning up against the wall. Ready for delivery tomorrow!
I also got my new lumber rack installed so the boards aren't sitting on the ground collecting moisture.
Thanks! First big project of the year. Several more to go. My next step is to get the new table saw assembled, it's a huge fucking project just to get the damn thing put together. After that it's on to making things to sell. First one is coasters and some wooden boxes for tea/coffee/etc. Also going to make a pour over coffee maker.

Thanks dude. This one is raw dog. Since it's exclusively an outdoor table any reasonably priced finish on the surface wouldn't last all that long and would end up looking worse anyway. Customer wanted a low maintenance table so we went straight cedar that should last for a really long time. All you need to do to get the color back is pressure wash it.
That's what I'm inspired to do.
Put together a shop...
when I have space.
One day we will buy a property on an acre with a barn/project house in the back.
Get on it! You can't possibly have anything else to do...

Do it man. It's not a lot cheaper than cars but I feel that it's more rewarding and can bring some level of ROI. One of the main reasons the S2k is on sale is for the garage space it occupies, want to absorb that into shop space at this point.
