I think the hot dog trick is expensive— it destroys the blade and the brake.

This thing is awesome, it's built like an absolute tank. The system as a whole came in 5-6 boxes on a pallet and weighs in at ~250lbs. Comparatively, my old table saw will literally fit underneath the stand of this new one and weighs ~40lbs lol.
Yup. It's a ~$150 ordeal if you have a cheap blade. $250 if you have a good one. Both are cheaper than ER visit though...

That is extremely cool that it can detect that. Crazy reading the comments that they sued Bosch over the same type of tech in a job site saw. Does SawStop even make a job site saw?

Yes but that's not the point. They spent all that time and money to come up with an idea, they should be allowed to protect it. I sure as hell wouldn't want other people stealing my company's ideas, that's why we patent things all the time. It's not like other companies can't come up with other options around the patent, that's part of the game.

I understand the reason for patents and why they did it but it is just a shame for another saw capable of preventing an unfortunately to common injury off the market. Plus from the looks of their design it didn't destroy your saw blade when it happened.

That's insane, and pretty amazing.

@SamDoe1 any suggested router bit brands? Just got my Dewalt XR router and need some bits to get to routing!

Sorry man, been out of the country on vacation the past week. I have a set of Irwin bits that I got from Lowes for not much money. This works great to let you know which bits you use most and thus should upgrade to actually good ones. For the bits you use once every so often (or never) it's fine to get the big set of cheapos. If you go down that route, really any bit set will be just fine.
Damnit man.. don't be so unreliable
I appreciate the response nevertheless and coincidentally enough.. that's the same kit I ended up with..Thought about the Ryobi kit that J recommended from HD but Lowe's had the Irwin kit for the same price so just copped it..
P.S. You has PM

Something about great minds... I've upgraded several of the bits (roundover, chamfer, rabbet, etc) but kept most of the others the same because I rarely or never use them.
You has PM back.

I mean, i really only needed the 1/4" roundover bit but the single diablo bit was 30 bucks.. for another 30 bucks, i got 14 other bits The in me couldn't resist it..

The Diablo bit is worth every penny of $30 over the Irwin ones but if you don't use them often it's totally fine.

Making some man glitter this weekend. Started these builds off last night in order to consume the huge bucket of scrap wood I have sitting around, will wrap them up today. Then starting at least one coffee table as well. Hopefully wrap that one throughout the week.

The gray clamps are HF specials. The pipe clamps are the only nice ones I have.
As an update, so far I have everything cut up and ready to assemble to make a coffee table AND a matching end table. Assembly tomorrow. This black ash I got for free from a friend is t1ts.
Somewhere in this pile o stuff there are two tables.
Also, update on the projects from the previous post. All planed down and ready to go for finish sanding. Just need to clear the work bench of all the table crap and then I can get to proper sanding...

You know it. The cedar from the previous build is also begging to get burned. It's gonna smell so nice...
I was actually really happy with how much I got in comparison to the scrap rate. Was a happy surprise!

Got table 1 done assembled over the weekend. I figured out I was missing two parts for the second table so now the glue for those is drying so I can get the second one done. Then it's on to trim to fit, plane the high spots down, and sand until my hands go numb!

I made something like that many years ago. While it didn't blow apart, wood movement took a real toll on it. If I were to do it again, it'd be a plywood base with veneer.

I've already made an identical table before out of pine, it was actually my very first woodworking project ever. I just wanted to make another one out of hard wood to replace the soft wood table and get a matching end table out of the deal.

I didn't want to show off the sick plywood base, would have made the solid ash top jealous.
Also, I guess I didn't post this before but when I went to power on the SawStop for the first time, it pulled so many amps that it blew the breaker. Nothing I did could get it going (only 15A to garage outlets) so it was now time for more power to the garage. Been using my trusty DeWalt saw all this time but I'm finally getting an entire 70A sub panel put into the garage so that I can expand as necessary. Getting that done as I type this so hopefully will have it up and running this evening! And it also gives me something to plug my Porsche Taycan (maybe...but probably not because I'm too poor for that ) into as well!

Yeah gotta oversize the motor breaker for the inrush current sometimes. One of the reasons I go 220 when the machine allows it.
I don’t think it is possible to get an Inverse Time breaker for a residential panel.

I can re-wire the saw to run 220V in the future but I'm not ready for that yet. With the new panel in the garage I'll be able to add a 220V line whenever I want.

And yeah, I'm really happy with how the ash looks! I was initially going to do a dining table out of walnut or maple slabs but now I think I'm going to do black ash because it's stunning. Also, it's pretty cheap around here with the emerald ash borer, people are cutting down ash trees all over. Hell we might be cutting down the one in our front yard and I'm already scheming on how I can get it slabbed and dried for some projects. That would be cool AF.

I've been really terrible with sharing my progress on here lately...most of June blew by due to lots of travel but I got a lot done over the long weekend. I'll be starting an instagram account to show more of what I do and will post that when I'm ready to start it off but in the mean time here's a quick update:
First of two cutting boards I wrapped up over the weekend. First is a walnut and paduk board, second is a combination of walnut, maple, purple heart, and leopardwood. First one is already spoken for, second still up for grabs mostly because I haven't posted it for sale lol. I put finish on both of them last night, will take and post finished pics soon.
Next up is a carving set I'm working on. I bought the metal bits, working on the wood part. Got the knife scales fitted and working on sanding. This project is super low on my priority list so I just tool around on it while waiting for glue to dry or something.
Next up is a quick shop project. I can't take credit for this since I saw it online but I just built this quick drawer that fits inside the fence rail of my table saw. Great place to store pencils and other such things! This was just a first pass, I may just make one on the CNC out of a billet of MDF.
Last, but not least, table updates. I used the wood glue plus CA glue strategy to put this whole thing together without any nails. The CA glue effectively works as "clamps" while the wood glue dries. Works AWESOME in case you ever need to do something like this.
Clamping on the side trim for the table was a PITA since I don't have clamps long enough to span the long side of the table. So I just jerry rigged this set up, seemed to work fine. The CA trick wasn't going to work here since I actually needed compression on the joint.
MOAR CLAMPING!!! The number of clamps you need for a job is always one more than the number you own.
Now the sanding part... After rough planing everything down to mostly flat, I can sand the rest of it to the final surface. I can't plane the whole thing because the grain goes in all kinds of directions and it would be a huge PITA with lots of chip out. I use a pencil to mark all over the surface to know when I've sanded all of it. Helps to keep track of progress and also so you know that you've actually taken material off and didn't miss any spots.
And the finished top ready for finish. I have one more grit to go through this evening and will apply the first coat of finish hopefully tonight or tomorrow! The metal legs are showing up today so I hope to have this whole thing wrapped by the end of the week.
