Well...the S2000 needed more doors, more driven wheels, and a lot more torque...

I occasionally get the 'faster daddy!' from the back seat, but usually only in the MiniBus. The Malibu doesn't really inspire excitement .

Mine starts giggling and shouting "weeeeee" when I accelerate hard. It's pretty adorable, not gonna lie.

I have never seen a Rivian charging station before. I’m at a Tesla supercharger in the literal middle of bumfuck nowhere near the Mojave desert for a job, and these are right here next to the Tesla chargers. There are 8 Rivian branded chargers.
I hope to see more of these!

They've started to build out their own network and have been expanding it this year. So far there are a handful of stations up and running with a bunch more under construction. As of now, it's actually free to charge there for a Rivian (not compatible with other cars) but that's going to change in a few months. All of these are, so far, being installed in the middle of nowhere locations on purpose.

Well the free juice bit will be ending soon anyway, they are only going to cover it through the end of April after which it will be a pay to charge situation. Still Rivian exclusive chargers though, at least for the time being.
The truck/SUV are marketed as "adventure vehicles" so having these chargers in the middle of nowhere is a great way to allow people to use them as such. I just hope they can speed up the rollout of this stuff so more people can get access to them and especially start getting these installed by or in national parks.

Welp, something broke on the Rivian this morning. Was coming home from dropping the kid off at daycare and it sounded like a driveshaft failed. Now it makes a grinding noise and is throwing a bunch of warnings and went into limp mode. Submitted a service request and should hopefully hear back soon. Thank god for WFH.

They are giving me a rental car while they fix it. TBD on if it's mobile service or if they tow it. Someone is coming to my house to make that assessment.
In their benefit, they've done all this with me typing a few words into an app. They did the diagnostics remotely, found they needed more, set up a car, and sending someone out here to deal with it with minimal effort from me.

Say what you will about Tesla but my car was dead reliable in the time I had it. No major issues at all, just a squeaky seat bushing.
Drivetrain warranty is 8 years. You better believe I'm going to get my money's worth lol.

Rental car set up for tomorrow morning. They are covering a large SUV or pickup for an equal vehicle and towing my truck to the service center. Unfortunately no mobile service for this one.

I'll hopefully find out more today but more likely to find out what the deal is early next week. All good so far, they've been great to work with. The rental car was offered up without me even asking for it.

I forget, is yours a quad motor? Does that still use axles, or is the motor direct attached at the hub?

Yes quad motor and no not hub motors. The motors are all inboard in the center of the truck. There are half shafts that go out to the hubs.

The weird part is that it doesn't shut down the faulty drive and let the other three keep chugging. It turns into FWD mode which is fine...unless one of the failed motors is on the front lol.

lmao, there is NO way they will give you the failed part.
To have it and auction it and to send jalopnik an article on their build quality...
not that you would but there is no way they are taking a chance.
Here's your truck back Samir, it was just that you had turned off the 12v accessory port in the back seat that's all.
Ask no more questions.
