Did you overfill the engine oil?

If you have low compression in one cylinder then you're kind of fucked and it's new engine time. Maybe find a good M54 this time?

 

No overfill, it's been burning off so up to a quart low. M54 would require a slew of changes, if I can't rebuild this one, I'd look for an S52.

I am hoping it's just valve seals. Looking for a shop, have a few to call tomorrow for a diagnosis.

It will be short lived though, the high on Monday next week is -1F.

It was suggested I do another compression test with all plugs out. Here's what I have: Also, the smoke is worse.

 

If it's getting worse then it's likely on the way out. Chances are this motor was already on the way out anyway and boosting it just gave it the final kick.

Just began trying to do the leak down test yesterday & my 12 year old compressor died.

Picked this up today.

It's official, motor is toast. I'm soooo thrilled.

 

 

It's ok, I'll have a motor that will last.

Extraction has begun, I'll disassemble it once it is out.

 

What are you dropping in for the replacement?

 

With the SC I have more than enough power, I just want a reliable "economical" easy solution, the first choice is simple head work, second bottom end rebuild & valve stem seals/head refresh & finally a good other M52.

I hope to have it out tomorrow, busy yesterday & today.

I have been offered a good iron M52, mine is 60lbs lighter aluminum.

The clutch, flywheel & pressure plate look very good. I'll be getting a new clutch & pressureplate.

 

Except the Viktor R (they are crap) gasket I see no issues.

 

Here are a few more, WD 40 in the head to see if it's not sealed.

 

#5 is not alive. I expected 1&2 to be empty with all the bubbles but no...

 

At least you know the problem is with valve seats! Might be easier to fix this and get the heads surfaced than a new motor?

 

Next step is taking the head & block to a machine shop to verify they are ok & have them made ready for assembly/get a valve job. (assuming no cracks/warpage)

 

Mystery solved. Piston #3 has a crack.

Looking for M54B30 pistons, rods & a crank, going 3 litre stroker.

 

I paid a down payment on a fully rebuilt S52 last night, should have it in 2 weeks.

Non car related but do you know if this weather station reports to the national databases or is it just a local to the screen? I am curious because I have been considering getting one for a while now for my smart sprinkler controller to reference as we end up with a weird microclimate living near the bottom of a lake when it comes to rain and thus my sprinkler system doesn't run a lot cause it thinks we are getting rain and we are not actually. I didn't see anything in a quick skim of the link you posted but I definitely could have missed it.

 

I don't think it does any interaction nor am I aware of getting data externally. They have other units that do but I have not looked into them.

 

Congrats on the new engine. Was looking forward to following the stroker build plan but this is going to be much less headache.
