Can't really put my finger on it but, I am thoroughly enjoying this thing.
I think I have a thing for cars with bad reputations but offer a high reward when they are working.
I'm going to spend some time this weekend to clean out the numerous amount of drains on this car - any time it rains / take it to a car wash, I have weirdness with my reverse lights staying on and I suspect water is making it into the interior.
Unfortunately, my battery took a shit with the last car wash episode - $275 H8 battery later, she's up and running and ready for kid & daily duty.

955 Cayennes heavily depend on good batteries .. anything under 12v and this thing spazzes out.
Low center of gravity .. also, ze Germans.

Mercedes did the same with the ML/GLE, and the WK/WK2 Grand Cherokee, under the front passenger seat.

So .. what was that you were saying about the Cayenne not making it? Jokes aside, I was kind of second guessing taking this car since we had a nice serviced MDX at home.
Either way - 1300 mostly faultless miles @ 16.1mpg, the 4000-8000ft elevation and all the traffic around Zion did not help my mpgs .
The only reason I had to pop the hood was to check oil and make one very minor harness repair with zipties and electrical tape lol - my injector wiring repair from when I first got the car started acting up half way through the trip which resulted in some sporadic misfires.
Otherwise - no new warning lights Definitely have a new sense of confidence in this thing.

Glad you made it... now tell us how you really felt when you felt that minor misfire
But damn 16mpg on a road trip...

Soo...what you're saying is that even though it made it back ok, it wasn't without its fair share of problems?

MPG wasn't great but came out to about $325 .. a little cheaper than I expected.
Over the course of 1300 miles, it seems my $3800 Cayenne has a better track record than your Rivian

shoot, I get 20 in the Suburban on road trips.
At the end of the day you had a good time...and you made it.
I can relate to the stress factor though...during the fuel shortage a few weeks ago
for some reason I picked the Merc that was low on gas to pick J up from the airport...
the whole ride home thinking if this thing dies...MAN...so nerve wracking!
Anyway, that's part of the fun...was she surprised it all went well?

I haven't updated this thread in awhile - yup yup yup, it's still running fantastic ... all in, I am into the car $6200 and it hasn't skipped a beat. Current mileage is 146k and some change, purchased at 140k miles.
Work completed:
- Installed a new DENSO AC Compressor and had a buddy of mine add fresh refrigerant - Cold AC!
- New cabin filter
- Vinyl wrapped the hood / portion of the bumper - Not perfect by any stretch but the improvement for less than $100 is insane.
- Figured out my reverse light / water issue - In progress (Modules getting wet / car isn't water tight)
- $20 Internal Muffler bypass - you literally add exhaust flex repair hose inside of the muffler ... adds sound, doesn't rattle, and is super cheap. Cold starts sound amazing and the added volume is great.
Few pics along the way ... attempted to do a few light trails last weekend but they were both closed .
I want to be lifting wheels soon! It's basically ready.
Thanks for reading!

Nice work on the vinyl, good match on the color.
On the fence on going all in with paint, or just having the Midget wrapped.

Thanks! Found an old Rennlist post that this particular Avery wrap is a near perfect match for Arctic silver.
My thoughts is, if you're going to learn how to wrap a car .. a Midget is perfect since it's so small .and material cost would be low - Additionally, I'd imagine it would take half of the time of a regular car .

True, and not a lot of complex curves.
Just depends on how much surface prep it needs. I have inconsistent clearcost, and a couple spots with chunks of paint missing. Would probably at minimum need to fill those.
Maybe start with the hood or trunk, big smooth surface with no varying contours to it.

In my case, you can see every bit of PPF remnants / paint imperfections left behind.

Yeah, it'll likely stay in its current state for a while. Aesthetics can wait until the mechanical is sorted.
Apart form the hood, LR 1/4 & the chunk of paint missing from the RF fender, it probably wouldn't take a lot to prep for wrap.
-The hood has a few cracks in the paint where it looks like someone tried to push the hood down to latch, rather than letting gravity do the work.
-LR 1/4 has a dent/scrape that needs to be massaged out or replaced
-RF fender missing about a 4" dia chunk of paint, probably poor prep when the MAACO paint job was done.

I wonder if hitting the car with a (rattle can) of high build primer and then wetsanding the fuck out of it before vinyl will smooth out enough of the imperfections.
Regardless, the pepper truck looks great!

May have to look into that, might make fore a stopgap option to get it wrap ready. Not sure it'll be enough to the rear 1/4 or front fender, but may be for the other imperfections.

If you gamble well, they're pretty capable & cool vehicles for the money.
With enough time / the right cost basis, I think they're worth it - then again, B5 S4 ownership helps rationalize purchases like this

^ At least the B5 & pepper are in the same 'family'
