I don't know how @rockstar143 does it - he does FAR more DIY car work than I do and he does it all in his driveway.

He's the real hero here.

Also, made a pretty interesting discovery .. the flaking paint on the hood / bumper is actually old PPF .

PO tried sanding it in some areas and hit the original clear but, I'm sure with some elbow grease I can bring this thing around.

pour boiling water on it... let it sit in the sun... do a section at a time... you may have to do it a few times... once you get the film flexible and pliable again, it will start to come off...

Fairly certain it's PPF - steamer didn't end up lifting it at all so I'm going to try the boiling water method next.

I have some industrial grade adhesive remover and a new plastic scraper coming ... maybe a combination of that will get me more desired results.

If you have access to a good heat gun, that would also be a good option to try.

I can try that, too. Just need to be careful not to burn up the PPF.

Try spraying some of this stuff around the edges to see if it starts to lift off. Ask me how I accidentally know this works....

Definitely but just enough to get the adhesive to soften and you should be able to peel it up.

Tried boiling water, various methods with the steam cleaner, heatgun .. nothing works - you can definitely get the material soft but it doesn't start peeling .. it just breaks up and chips, and it's onto the next part of steaming and trying to lift it.

Makes for very very slow progress - I'd say I did a 6" x 6" patch in 45 minutes.

I ordered a rubber eraser wheel - I found a pretty neat DIY for dealing with rotten / dried out PPF and it seemed to turn it into an almost gummy / rubbery state with enough heat, but you need to add some kind of oil based / wax so it doesn't beat up the paint too much.

Oh man,

I've really been enjoying this rig - I've driven it 200 miles since purchase and there's no overheating, trans feels fantastic, and has taken quite a bit of boost.

On my last all highway commute @ 65-70mph, I was able to get 20mph on the highway ... zero stop and go traffic helped a lot.

Does kid duty much easier than the A7 - I'm getting to old to hunker down into a car to load kids into carseats

Was too lazy to move the carseat from the Malibu to the MiniBus this weekend, and agree that a decent SUV does kid duty so much better than a car/sedan.
The the older 2 were complaining of "she's touching me" the whole 4 mile trip

Oof, yeah, I'm 6'0" and luckily the Malibu is just big enough for the rear facing seat behind the driver without having to slide it forward from my normal position.

Agree on all points. Getting the kid in/out of the Golf was way easier than the Tesla because the shape of the doors.

Could also be because she was WAY smaller when I still had that car. Who knows.

Tyler, those tail lights need to go ASAP.

I'm in no way complaining because I knew straight away with what I was getting myself into but, I'll pussy foot as much as I can with 91 being over $6/gallon

I did play around with a Boxster with the turbocharged 4 banger. He won but ... my car sounded much better

I feel like it always starts this way...
we have no emotional connection yet, just new problems to fix that someone left behind...
so initially it's like HOW MUCH IS THAT? Fuck that, I'll just deal with it.
But as time goes on and you start making memories in it it tips the scale on feeling
worth putting some cash into it to fix certain things.

I enjoy the process and I don't truly ever get buyer's remorse because I anticipate it and know
it passes.
Or maybe I'm just jaded and grumpy and IDGAF that much anymore.

Replaced the secondary air injection pumps ... smooth sailing so far .. hopefully the emissions readiness comes back with flying colors.

After getting gas, I took the Cayenne home and decided to try the low range settings and I'm happy it all works - really common for the transfer case / actuators to get stuck since they're hardly used.

Warning lights are disappearing .. new ballast comes today.

Feels good to shine this turd!

I was just thinking about this yesterday ...

I could definitely get into some trouble but, any kind of dirt roads / off-roading is about a 30-45 minutes away - my current tire setup isn't helping anything either. One day

Upon further research, it doesn't look like my Cayenne has any kind of front or rear differential locking - apparently, it only came in the Offroad package and it's stupid rare to find one.

My Cayenne essentially has a low range & center differential lock.

Thanks man,

I re-poured my driveway this year so the approach angle is much much better than it was before ... still have a bit of nervousness with drainage but luckily we don't get much rain and I did install 2 drains.

^ New driveway in on our longer-term to-do list, along with possibly adding a circle & 2nd entry across the front.

Diff locks are unnecessary in 99% of situations. I can count on one hand the number of times I engaged the lockers on my Jeep in the time I had it and that thing went through a lot of shit.

Take it out there and hit the trails, I'm sure the tires you have would be fine for most dirt roads. Just don't go finding sharp rocks or anything...and make sure you bring a spare tire.

OEM tails.

Sup.

Not a huge update on this thing other than holy shit, it needs a lot. Car has been sputtering on light / heavy throttle - ran my portable scanner and noticed the car is misfiring. Stepper motor in trans acted up but is fine now, CD Changer / amplifier are dying and radio has a mind of it's own.

I plan on ordering a full ignition refresh such as coilpacks & plugs and also cleaning both MAFs. Trying to find a cheap boroscope so I can scope the cylinder walls while the plugs are out.

Once the Imola is done / sold, I'll be concentrating on it and getting some much needed parts for it.
