Not saying that a 6MT could crack 60 foots as good as a DSG, but I think with enough practice and some luck a driver could get close. Shifting is the big advantage.
The launch is the biggest advantage. It's hold skinny pedal to floor and side step the brake, can't get much easier than that. If you had a good driver in the manual, you could get close on the launch but the DSG is going to nail every launch and every shift every time perfectly without question. The manual is entirely human dependent, this is why every high end performance car is using it...

The only downside is the VAG cars limit boost in 1st unless you have a tune.

So...I had a trade ready to go with a buddy for a manual S4. I was going to lose my dream color in exchange for a manual. I already had a hard time swallowing that
but decided I wanted to go for it. Mine is a Florida car that wasn't heavily modified...I have tech package which he didn't...no reverse camera, keyless entry, push button,
nav, streaming bluetooth...talked myself past that...
Then I drove my car in full manual mode for a couple of days and gave it a real shot...and loved it. I thought I had to manually downshift to first every time which got
annoying since you can drop to neutral and then put it in first in a manual. That would cause me to inevitably pop it back into auto...
Anyway, the following day I drove the S2000 to try and be unbiased on how I felt about the idea of having a manual in both cars. I do love it, and if I had only one...it would
have to be manual. With that said, I realized during that drive that having 2 manual cars isn't what it used to be to me. DSG is new technology, faster shifting, smooth driving...
better gas mileage...
I love manual...but I love DSG for other reasons too. and I my color and the gadgets I've grown accustomed to. It's crazy how much you'll talk yourself into when you
want something. Volvo didn't have reverse camera and I would always bitch about that...Caddy didn't have streaming media and I would do the same about that too.

Plus, LAUNCH CONTROL!

J is figuring out why manuals with clutch pedals are on life support.

I mean, I won't lie...I still think that a sports car feels more rewarding to drive with a clutch pedal.
But to claim the dual clutch and new tech has no control or driver feel is a very git off my lawn mentality.

For the last few days I've been practicing driving in manual mode and really treating it like a manual in my
mind. It didn't dawn on me but the car actually likes that...giving it gas input as if it were a manual. It's funny
too...it's basically like power shifting a manual car every single time in every single gear since it changes
gears so quickly. Either way, I'm having a good time with it and @svtmike is right..I am starting to get
why almost all newer performance cars are going this route.

I actually just placed an order for some really nice extended paddle shifters and the DSG full service kit (I'm due at 75K, I think).

I do think you made the right move sticking with your car, for the color and tech. I don't think you would have been happy in the long term had you given up both just to row your own.

However, I think you'd be thrilled if you found a manual S4 in the exact spec as this one.

Like I said, if it was my ONLY car...it would have to be manual...
but a DSG has it's place in a performance car!

@civicdrivr I had a deal worked out with one...but the guy ended up being a tool and was missing the bang and olufsen...so I bailed on the deal...
it was substantially more money too. But I know you are right...one day, the right deal and combo will come along and I will likely jump. I just am really
happy with this ho for the time being.

Glad you kept it, love that color
Also crazy launch

I, too, toss mine into MT mode from time to time, just for fun. Not a DCT, but shifts pretty quick for an auto, firmer/quicker shifts in M than in Comfort.

All I got from this discussion is that I need a louder exhaust...

Also, you put it in neutral while coasting to a stop? It will always downshift to prevent itself from stalling.

I didn't word that well...
I meant in a manual.
Meaning it's second nature in a manual so I had to learn to let the logic behind the DSG do it's thing.

You do need exhaust!
@civicdrivr said it sounds like Chewbaca

I mean, I am open to ideas and suggestions...
The long game will be to get a manual, but really there's no rush
and I'm enjoying this bitch. Round 2 of 3 gallons of E85 mixed in.
230 miles on the last tank and $37.28 to fill up the tank with the
combined mix and some cash back app I use. Not fuckin bad.

Was this on the bike? WTF? My Optima does better than this. Fuck. That's like 20 mpg if E85 measures like gas.

Sell that bitch!

Your Vagon got almost that. (Not really)

But it was safer and bad-er ass-er!

My Vagon sold for enough money to pay for the Odyssey and S4
Zero ragrets there.
And 20mpg is actually good for me...I have a lead food...I got the Volvo that was advertised as a 37 mpg car down to
like 25.

Caddy averaged 12.5 mpg for reference...13.5 if I was a good boy.

E85 burns hotter and faster so adding it actually lowers your efficiency...I'm testing to see how well I can do
while still enjoying the added power.
