Pa Tint Laws Are Crazy!!!

This is stupid! I just wanted a lil tint cause I'm putting a double din sized LCD in the CL, and I don't want anyone to try and steal it. In my attempt to be a law abiding citizen I went to tintcenter.com to find out what the limit was:

Windshield No tint is allowed on the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 70% of light in.

Thats horrible...Now I don't even want tint anymore. I think I'll have the money go towards upgrading the HU to a 7in retractable LCD single din. I know, I know just get a darker tint but Now I don't even want it anymore... Thanks for readin my lil rant, I feel better, God bless

At least in PA you are allowed to have some sort of tint. NJ do not allow any tints on the front, but mine's fully tinted with limo (3%)

NC its 35% on all the windows which isnt great either. I do know though that in NC it costs an extra 10 bucks for an inspection with window tints but if your tints are less then 65% they legally cant charge you since its not considered dark.

Man it all depends on how much of dickhead cops live in your area. But I can say if you ever get some tint you will tell a consideraable differnce in heat reduction. I have 15% and have never been pulled

A lot of my friends have either 35% or 20% all around (except windshield) without a problem. I'm planning on going with one of those soon too, just haven't decided which yet. If you're THAT worried about it, go with 35%. I have yet to hear of someone getting pulled over for 35% tint getting pulled.

NJ is worse. I got a "warning" and decided to remove my front tint. I DID have 35% all around.

RI is the same way as PA, but i have had 35% tint all around, minus the windsheild, for the last 2 years never had a problem and just had it inspected last month and they passed it with no problems with the tinted windows at the dealer.

I had 35% all around, Madico tint, put on at Auto Image at the Somerville Circle for $250. They did a nice job and I have not had a problem yet.

Well they might as well say no tint in PA cause the factory "tint" on my CL was at the legal limit

To the OP....Just grow some and get your windows tinted. Ive had mine tinted on various vehicles for 10 years in PA with no problems. Just don't go darker than 35% and the PA cops will leave you alone. Ive even had cops come up and ask me about my car at gas stations with no problems

No hassle, went in for 5 mins. Told my doctor the truth, "I don't want the sun hitting me, my skin is 'sensitive' so I need tint". That one line is all i had to say and a doctors note was waiting for me later that afternoon.

BTW, the tint at 15% helps A LOT while driving

I'm the type that "if you want to do something, do it all the way."
For me, knowing 35% is just as illegal as 3%, then why not get the darkest tint (limo) and hence my is gangster dark

Go to this page and download form MV-402 and take it to your eye doctor.
http://www.dot3.state.pa.us/forms/index.shtml

I have tint exception forms for both the Vette and my Subaru.

Does anyone know why there are tint laws in the first place??

My guess is this: safety for the police officers who have to pull a car over for various traffic offences. A dark tint would not enable the officer to see inside the car and hence endanger his/her life unnecessarily.

I am with the laws that state little or no tint on the front side windows even though I have 35% on my front and 20% back.

The thing is that the tint laws are so different from state to state that it just seems stupid NOT to tint if the state you live in allows you to tint anyway.

Just my two cents.

excuse me PA is just as bad cause 70% of light is basically no tint at all. the factory tint on my TSX is darker than allowing 70% of the light through. its not even worth tinting in PA. they minus well ban it all.

Well, I don't know where tinting a front windshield is legal, but the parameters you have listed is about the same for NY I believe. The tint you're going to be "legal" with would be 35%, and even that's borderline. In NY, in most cases they won't bother you about that, but if you have a pain in the ass for an officer, he can technically give you a ticket for it if he gauges the glass.

Of course it is! It might not be dark enough where you can't see who's in the car, but it certainly shows! Here's a pic of my cars with 35% on the front windows (there is no such thing as 30% darkness tint), not including windshield.

The funny thing is there is a ton of people from Philly with tinted windows. I thought PA law allows tints on the front but then again, I could be wrong.

You state you have 35% as I do. Which allows 35% of the light through. Our stupid law says you have to allow 70% of the light through. Your not going to find 70% tint and if you do you won't see it, it will be clear
