Yeah, the Bose in the 2G TL & in the Malibu are decent, but not great.
The Burmester in the Merc was far superior to any OE system I've heard in person.
Have read that doing the rear deck speakers in the Malibu is a huge pain. Up there with removing the rear bumper, which the guys on the 'Bu forum advise against if possible.
But, not near as bad as the rear deck in my parent's Camry. Rear windshield has to be removed to pull the rear deck
Thiers has the rear window retractable shade. Salesman pulled it out to demonstrate & it wouldn't retract, they got it to retract by manually rotating the spool. Dealer offered to fix & my dad made the compromise for Weathertech mats instead, rather than them going through all that labor for the install. Probably saved the dealer a fair $$ on that trade.
they install the rear deck and THEN the glass at the factory...
wow...what a well thought out plan for future maintenance.
I'm sure the manufacturing genius that is Toyota had a good reason for doing it this way but it does seem odd. Probably not a big deal since I'm not sure anyone will really ever do this anyway.
Not sure if the rear deck has to come put for rear speaker replacement, but such a rare occurrence. Just seems to have that be the proper/authorized R&R process.
They probably did an analysis and found that it took 4 hours to remove the window and replace the deck vs. 4.5 hours to come at the deck from the inside. Therefore, pull the window is the way.
Just hit 4 years since I traded in the 08 for the 17 on Monday, she has 29K miles on her and is virtually brand new still. Definitely still loving my 5th gen, hard to believe I've had her for 4 years already
The new ones are super nice but I can't imagine he'll want to transfer all those wiring mods...
that would be a pita.
Honestly this is probably the biggest thing keeping me from going to get a new one. Having to redo all that work would be a nightmare and I just don't have the time these days to do it. Also mine still has less than 30K miles on it so it's still essentially brand new plus I've got it mostly where I want it. I do think about getting something new all the time, but just can't justify it to myself especially working from home. I've driven the runner like 4K miles in the last year lol, and that is with driving to our new office a bunch from January on, feels like more but crazy I've only driven that little as I used to drive 4-5K in a month lol
Dude I've been wanting a 4G V8 for years now. If I could afford it I'd totally pick one up as an extra car for mom and I to use when either the AV6 or RDX is out of commission.
Years ago, in late 2012, we saw a 2005 V8 Limited for like $14K and they still pull that money in 2021. Insane!
My parents had both, an 03 V6 & a 05 V8.
I'd have the V6, if I were hunting for a 4G. They had more trouble out of the V8, mostly coolant leaks (brittle plastic parts), and the V8 is a timing belt engine.
I had an 03 and 08 v6 and they both were bulletproof, I'd recommend them to anyone. That same V6 is also in the FJ's and people drive the living snot out of those things
Small little update, but after countless hours of spray tinting 2 different sets of mirror turn signal lights because there was no tinted option available, they copied my idea and made some tinted sequential LED turn signals that are smoked plastic. I was more than happy with my chinese sequentials that was my second set of smoked turn signals, but someone actually clipped my mirror in a parking lot and rubbed off a bunch of the spray tint and clear coat. Here's a before of the driver's side, I was happy with the dark tint but hated the white plastic underneath
And here's a before of the passenger side signal that was scraped, this was obviously before I installed the folding mirror motors. I had buffed most of the scrape off which was white paint, but the damage still bothered me.
And here's a better pic of the damage, it doesn't show up well on camera, but it's pretty ugly.
And here's the new ones, the smoked plastic is a bit lighter than the tint that I did, but that was expected. I still like the plastic itself being tinted, here's a side by side of the old and new
And here is the new one installed, definitely looks lighter in this light but in person it's more dark
And here's the mirror all reassembled
The sequential turn signal all lit up is definitely way brighter and crisper than the Chinese ones that I tinted, and I'm very happy with them.
Down the road if I have time I may sand down and retint the ones that I took off, but the scrape/damage on the passenger was bugging me mainly because people suck and someone hit my mirror lol
I just picked up a set of smoked ones as well. Waiting to grab a pair of black upper mirror covers to do a full mirror blackout and make it look like the old Trail.

can't wait to see the install in 3rd quarter of 2024!

I've been debating blacking mine out as well, I like the black on blue look though.
Hit 30k miles yesterday after over 4+ years, so she's officially broken in now.
I also added a quick detach battery tender cable to my battery terminals since my truck sits so much I can throw it on if needed. My battery was drained from sitting but turned out that my negative cable was loose

I have those on all of our cars, on the Sequoia I don't have to open the hood.

love them and the NOCO genius!
Hell yeah, I love the NOCO genius! I had a quick connect on my Ack already, I used to use the clamps if my truck needed a quick charge, but figured I'd throw another quick connect on the Odyssey and figured I'd have the quick connect on both.
