Out with the old, in with the new(er) - BlackAck's 4Runner thread
Just traded my 2003 4Runner Sport in for a 2008 4Runner SR5. Couldn't be happier, although there are some things that I miss from my sport, like the JBL 10 speaker system and the 6 disk changer, but overall I am very excited about the new whip. Here's a few pics of the old and the new
Here's my old girl, I will miss her
Her best use aside from daily city driving
Out with the old and in with the new
The new girl in my life
I will post better pics once I wash and wax her, I have already started with some small things. I moved my WeatherTech DigitalFit floormats over, installed all my cool white wide angle LED bulbs, replaced the passenger mirror, and getting ready to replace all the interior speakers with the ones from my old runner, just excited to have a new project to work on. And the wishlist is already a few grand of new stuff

I know a few guys with 4Runners. All they drive for regular transportation. They usually trade them off for a new one every few years, but always because they choose to and not out of necessity. Those things seem to run forever.

Just curious, what's your opinion on the new 4runners? Seems like people either love or hate them.
Nice upgrade btw!

The unpainted plastic was nice for offroading and brush, but I wasn't a big fan of the look, only the 03's had that and then they switched to the painted moldings
Thanks, I personally love the new ones as far as the interior and the features, but I'm not a huge fan of the exterior styling, I like the look of them, but hate the way that the headlights and tails stick out, and it looks too boxy for me. I looked at the newer ones, but really wanted this body style with the projector headlights, and with such low mileage, it was a no brainer.

nice, im pretty sure the new won't have any problems reaching the previous ones mileage....those toyotas do sure run forever! I just remembered an episode of Top Gear and tested a tacoma with high miles thru different kinds of crap and it still kept going.

So I removed the pitiful magnetless speakers from the SR5 stereo, and replaced them with my Alpine Type S speakers and Audiobahn 1" silk dome tweeters that I had on my old JBL amp, and I am not happy with the lack of power from the stock head unit. I already have a set of MB Quart Reference Component 6x9's and tweeters that I was planning to put in when I install an amp and head unit, so I am looking into getting another set of MB Quart components for the rear, a 4 channel amp, and a double din navi head unit. I already ordered the stock JBL sub enclosure for my JL 8" sub that I never put in my 03 sport, and need an amp for that as well. Looks like I'll be moving very quickly on the stereo upgrade. I'll throw some pics up of the other speakers when I get a chance to upload them off my cell phone

Great choice Black Ack! A friend of mine has a 4Runner as his only wheels (remembering we're in Colorado). Still one of the most comfortable body-on-frame vehicles on the market. I went el cheapo and bought a new 2007 4x4 Nissan Frontier years ago for my "serious fun" vehicle. Body-on-frame definitely "gets 'er done" when it comes to off-roading and towing. Congrats!

Getting ramped up to start on the audio for the 4Runner. I'm actually going to have nicer equipment in my daily driver than in my show car

Congrats. Love the Toyota SUVS. Really digging the new highlander, it looks gorgeous. Toyota as its slogan states "moving forward" is moving forward while honda on the other hand is moving backwards. The new pilot/crv/accord crossover are all a joke compared to the toyota SUVS.

Advanced
Congratz on the T4R. I own an '06 SR5 4X4. Very reliable. Closing in on 100K Miles. Only issues are the common ones: Driveline Clunk, Seat Creak, Frozen Calipers, and stuck moonroof. Did you have the accelerator pedal cut down per the recall? I don't like the 5G 4Runners, as Toyota has decided to de-content and take the Fat Engineering out of the vehicle. No standard running boards, mud flaps, roof rack and rails, locking gas door, and no Multi-Mode Transfer case except for Limited edition. I have more stuff on my 4Runner stock than the 5G. I don't like the direction Toyota is going with the 4Runner. It is one of the few reliable Body on Frame and true SUV's left on the market. I can see the 4Runner going to Unibody due to CAFE rules.
