Well, 12/30 must be my change oil on the 4Runner day, because apparently I changed my oil and replaced my skid plates on 12/30/20 exactly a year ago today. I've driven just over 5K miles in the last year LOL so that's awesome.... But it was definitely due and glad that it's done for another year or so? I finally got to make use of the skid plate access door for the oil filter cartridge and easy access to the drain plug with the RCI skid that I installed last year. Well worth the money just for oil changes!

2 Allan screws and you have direct access to the filter, I honestly probably didn't even need to jack the truck up to access the drain plug and filter, but it was nice to have the extra room. I probably spent more time jacking the truck up and putting it on jack stands than the actual oil change took.

I also made use of the MotivX oil filter drain hose which helps drain out the oil before removing the oil filter cartridge to avoid making a giant mess and is way better than the plastic crap that Toyota provides with every oil filter. Just drained right into the catch pan and done!

After I drained the oil and removed the oil filter I also removed the oil catch can that I installed on the PCV system several months back, and not surprisingly it was pretty full. I definitely will keep an eye on it, but I was glad that it didn't leak at all when I unscrewed it. I dumped this in the used oil catch pan as well.

Another TRD oil filter since I bought several a few years back, not sure it makes one lick of difference from an OEM, but it's purdy!

All cleaned up and ready to go back in, yes I replaced both gaskets with the ones provided with the filter. I also was able to break the metal filter cartridge free pretty easy, given the nightmare that the plastic housing was last year and how much of a pain it was to remove, this was super simple.

And my drink of choice, Mobil 1, always....

6.6 quarts later, and she's a happy gal. Cleanup was a breeze and just had to screw the oil filter cover plate back on and done! Not bad for only doing it once a year lol

She's growing well! My daughter is 11mo and around 25", 19lbs. No concerns from the doctor, but her mom is tiny so it makes sense.

I know this won't make one lick of difference to you but grinding that skid plate over a rock with those exposed and protruding screws will make your life suck real fast.

my close friend across the street had a baby at 24 weeks...and he is a year old now and doing well.
Life is nuts...makes you really appreciate how much time effort and love and luck went into every one of
us being healthy and happy enough to make it.

Good thing she's a garage queen then lol

And I honestly bought the skid more for ease of oil changes than for actual off-roading protection, if I wanted full armor I would have went steel not aluminum

Lol, I agree. Though aluminum skid plates can actually be really quite good these days.

The best way to get easy oil changes is to just not have a skid plate.

Fun fact, the Jeep's oil pan doesn't even have a skid plate from the factory. Not as big of a deal on a Jeep vs a 4Runner though.

Just a small update, I've been having battery issues on the truck for a while now, have been keeping it on the trickle charger to make sure that it stays charged while sitting, but I think the Odyssey has finally kicked. I was getting no starting charge and had to jump it or charge it several times over the winter. Of course, I also just hit 4 years since purchase so no more warranty coverage. So, after 4 years of service, it's time to retire the old battery here's a before.

I opted to spend a little more and go up to the newer generation of battery rather than replacing with the same older style, new on left old on right.

New battery all installed, truck fired right up first try and appears to be happy.

I let the truck sit for several hours and then checked the remote start cell phone app and the old battery would always show in the high 11's or low 12's, this one showed up at 12.9 Volts right out of the box without having any charging, so definitely looks like an improvement. Hopefully I'm good for a while now.

Yeah, I love the app and being able to see where my truck is in addition to locking/unlocking the doors and the remote start from the cell app. I was just impressed to see it hit 12.9 right out of the box, it's down to 12.7 now but still awesome.

It's a great app, & not expensive. I have had it for two+years. I bought it with a year and renewed it for three years @ 99.99 when that was up, I'm good until 9/11/24.

Couple small little updates, it's snowing today so I couldn't get into any major mods, but figured I'd knock a couple small things out. The first was new map lights from Meso Customs.

Here's the before of the stock lighting enclosure

I have had LED bulbs in there for 4 years, but figured it was time for a change.

And here's everything removed

And here's a look at the back of the Meso unit before installing

And here's the new LED panels installed, I like how they extend into the dead space in the middle that previously was unused dead space. I also like how the black flows with the black panels and switches. They also have 2 color functions, you can do red or white with the switches in the middle

These things are ridiculously bright! Maybe too bright, we will have to see when it's dark

Not a great after since the garage lights are on, but I can tell you that these are WAY brighter than what I had before.

Another small update, I grabbed some new wiper blades since mine are approaching 4 years old, although the truck only has 30k miles on it, I figured it was time. Here's the old Bosch Icons about to be removed

And I replaced with the same ones I bought on Amazon 4-5 years ago

I washed the windshield inside and out before installing the new, and here's the new wipers, yay wipers!

Oh damn. I got the email that those were back in stock, but by the time I clicked through, they were sold out again. I'm looking to upgrade both the map and dome lights to the Red/Whites to match my tailgate ones.

Bosch Icon > *
The Bu needed wipers, had a blade separate from the beam. All the local WM had in stock was RainX, they'll do for now.

WM used to carry Icons, have a set on the Flex.

Couple updates, I got the bronze wheels put back on the truck a couple weekends back, this past weekend I did a full maintenance spring wash on the 4Runner. Broke out the pressure washer and the foam cannon, and soaped her up

Washed her, then hand dried the whole truck all the door jams and the rear hatch.

All clean and dry.

And since I still had half a tank in the foam cannon I backed out an old favorite and gave her a good wash as well.

Washed and hand dried as well, this paint definitely needs more work

But not bad for a 25 year old car

After I got both washed, that night I did a quick detail spray on the whole truck, let it sit a couple days, and then today applied another sacrificial layer of spray on ceramic coating.

I also put wheel sealant on all 4 bronze wheels, that paint is like a mirror also
