I owned a 2000 EXL coupe back in the day, now I need a commuter card and thinking how much I loved that car. I saw a 96k miles 2001 EXL coupe asking $5,800, appears to be in good condition, do you guys think this is a good deal?

Just my opinion, but I think that's too much. I've seen some 7Gs for that money.

if you're gonna spend $6k, look for a 7th gen.

might be tough finding one under 100k for that low but still, i'd rather a 3-4 year newer car with a few more miles.

The interior redesign is worth a few extra miles.

I'd say get it. When I bought my 08 Accord EX-L/Navi I was actually looking hard for an 01-02 Accord EX-L coupe. I feel it's Hondas best body style with the NSX'sh brake lights and decent power. a car of that year if it were driven the avg 12k miles/yr would have well over 100k miles.

Good idea, I will look at a 7G around 5k. The problem is that I hate the 7G look, so it is a tradeoff of interior vs. exterior.

Exactly, I love the 6G coupe look. I didn't realize the 6G tranny issue, so I might look for a 7G instead. The seller dropped 1k from his original asking so maybe if I wait look enough, he would drop even lower. 4k would be my impulse buy price

Thanks to all of your responses!

Last Acura - I think it depends on how well it was care for, what parts have been replaced (and the kind of parts used), etc. My first thought was that it's too much, as well, but I'm still used to a world where there's an appreciable difference in price between a car with 30K miles or so and a new one. That is not currently the case.

If you're interested, I'd at least ask to see records and get an idea how it was treated, how much work will be needed and how soon. Since it's being sold before 100K miles, I'll guess the timing belt and water pump haven't been replaced, so I'd factor that into the cost and negotiation, as well.

I was shocked too looking at CL. Prices are not as low as I hoped, I sold my original 2000 EXL coupe back in 2005 (about 55k miles) for a little under 9500. That was the best I can do and much better than TIV (dealer was giving me 7k!). Granted, it had a couple of noticeable bumps on the body.

Good call on the timing belt/water pump. I didn't realize about the 6G tranny issue so I am not that enthused about buying one anymore

Not sure if I'm going to sell the car. The buyer wants me to throw in my TL-S into the sale with no extra cash. Not going to happen. I even offered them for an extra 200 just so I wouldnt have to take them off. Amazing that 200 could break up a sale.

Some owners claim that their 4.2 FSI does not drink any oil. Some claim that theirs drinks a quart. Mine seems too thirsty for the stuff. With $100 for 10 quarts of oil, that stuff isnt cheap. Ive heard things from PCV to piston rings could be the culprit. So yea...no clue what I may do with it.

10 quarts of oil, whoa.

My Accord eats through about 1.5 quarts per 5,000mi .. running oil treatment at the moment and it seems to have slowed it down a bit.

Surely you knew what kind of maintenance you were facing buying the RS4, no? All I've ever heard about that car is the cost of ownership is crazy expensive. Gotta pay to play. But I feel for ya, if some are saying their's aren't eating any oil at all it's tough to see that much being flushed down the pooper. Exotic V8s are definitetly different beasts than a Honda V6.

My Accord never burned a sip of oil. Hopefully the VAG doesn't take any, either.

Sorry to hear, gr8ness... hopefully it's not a major fix.

Trust, I did all the due diligence I could on the car. There are more who report little or no oil burning (maybe 1 quart per 8K miles), and some who report some burning. But you are right, one must pay to play. Not so sure I want to play now.
