The Official Honda Accord Thread
Quick question: I've got an 03 4-cylinder, and my mom took it to a friend's shop to get it emissions tested (has to be done once every 2 years here in ON). Mechanic decided to put in new spark plugs, plus some other stuff without telling us, then slapping us with the bill. He put in NGK Platinums, replacements should be Iridiums. Should I switch them out as soon as possible, or will I be fine with these? They last something like 50K, Iridiums 100K.
I would call the mechanic out on the unauthorized work!
as far as plugs, only difference is life span. I wouldn't leave plugs in 100k personally. They can last that long, but they get worn way before that.
make the shop put in the manufacturer recomende plugs for free, or just swap em out earlier.
~110k.
Yeah, it did piss me off, but I didn't want another issue on my plate. I'm thinking of just changing them out when they're due.

As far as leaving plugs in for 100k miles, that's what Honda recommends with them (OEM plugs). First time they're supposed to be changed is at the 105k mile mark. That's pretty common for newer cars. Much different for your older hatch obviously.
Aman, how much was the bill? As far as I'm concerned, it is illegal to do anything on a car without the owner's consent and billing the customer in Ontario.
Your car is smokin' as always Todd! It puts us to shame.

so whens the supercharger coming?
Actually My RL is no scheduled maintenance for 100k and when I changed the plugs I was like hmmmm. New plugs didnt make a difference as far as idle quality etc, but for tthe tinkerers it would just erk you. lol

4 NGK Platinum spark plugs
Some engine air filter
Castrol synthetic engine oil (all of which has been gulped down by my K24, strangely the Mobil1 I usually use never misses a drop between changes)
Hopefully an oil filter
2 Raybestos front brake pads.
"labour".
And the cost of emissions and reg, something like $75

Photos hide the detail a bit.... your brother's car still looks like its only a 2008! I'm assuming you're some sort of courier? an Accord/CL is a good choice, though if it really came down to it, I really like the TSX for something like that. Luxurious, great on gas, fun and yet affordable considering all that.
oh and Todd, you were right, your car is DEFINITELY photogenic

We're in IT, and we cover most of VA. I used to drive an 88 Civic. It was great on gas (~40mpg compared to the CLs 27mpg) but without AC it just couldnt cut it. The CL is roomier, more luxurious and about 3 times more powerful. It doesnt handle nearly as well as the Civic though. If I didnt already have another car (which is currently in pieces
) I would have picked up an early 90s Civic or Accord for work and kept the CL for fun.
I looked at the TSX when the redesigned models came out. I love the car. The interior is nice and IMO its the best looking car in Acuras current lineup. But the anemic i4 doesnt do it for me, nor does the V6 as its only available with an auto.
And
Todds car is very photogenic. Todd, what camera are you using?

Thanks guys. I used my Canon PowerShot A620. It's been dropped several times and I even fell on it once hiking and cracked the LCD screen, yet it still takes great photos. Love that camera!
Morgan you bitch, you stole my picture
I absolutely loved that car when I saw it this past weekend. If I were to get rid of the TL, I would get exactly what your brother has. I love it.

It was the best picture I had from the meet!
It was cooler last night and decided to take a couple 3rd gear pulls.

So civicdrivr, when are you getting an Accord again?

I'm possibly in the market for a new to me car or new to fiance car. I found an 05 Accord EX-L with 4cyl/5 speed. 45K miles, car looks mint. The guy is asking $12,650 which I think is a little high. What do you guys think?
I really want an SUV but don't have a real NEED for it and it would be nice to at least one vehicle that's good on gas. Anything I need to look out for in Accords if I were to buy one?

4cyl/5sp Accord is always a good buy.
my wife still has her 2000 4dr and it feels so good to get like 30 mpg all the time compared to the RL
Hondas are hard to come by cheap. Especially Accords and Civics.
Did you check the going rate for that perticular model?

I want to buy something I can keep for 3-4 years with the least amount of maintenance and least amount of depreciation. I think that an Accord like this would be a good buy because by the time I would be done with it, it would be 8-9 years old with under 100K miles so it'll still be worth 7-8K I'd think - kept in mint condition of course with all maintenance done.
^Thanks. Im actually having a J36 assembled for me as we speak. Im not too sure when it will be installed though. right now i only have intake, headers, cat back exhaust, and a v 6 p ground wire kit on my J30.
