Dang! Looks like the M3 might have lost to the benz. Both are very fast cars though. I still wouldn't want a DCT though. The lag demonstated here seems pretty bad! I also don't think BMW has a fix for it too.

This guy. So, some of you no doubt remember the Cadillac CTS-V Challenge. If you don't, here's a refresher: General Motors vice-chairman Maximum Bob Lutz challenged any journalist to bring a CTS-V competitor to California's Laguna Seca where the 77-year-old Lutz would mop the floor with he/she and whatever fancy-pants, Euro sedan they done brung. Of course, the event got moved to New York's Monticello Motor Club, and to guarantee that the Cadillac didn't lose, GM brought in a backup pilot, John Hienricy, the company's noted hot shoe engineer and race car driver. And then every other manufacturer (Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar) decided not to play into GM's marketing ploy, and withdrew their cars' support.

To be frank, we here at Autoblog toyed with the idea of throwing our hoon-hat in the ring, but after Heinricy became Cadillac's ace in the hole, we figured the whole challenge was unwinnable (we've driven with Mr. Heinricy – he's that good). While it would no doubt have been fun, totally playing into General Motor's hands like that (by also losing), well, not so much. Luckily, privateer Michael Cooper and his BMW M3 wasn't in on our conference call.

Mr. Cooper showed up to the Caddy Challenge and laid down a 2:50.424, beating not only Bob Lutz's 2:56.321 in the way more powerful CTS-V, but our pals Lawrence Ulrich (2:53:026) and Jack Baruth (2:51:153), both of whom were driving the big supercharged Caddy. Not surprisingly, Heinricy blew the doors off of every single person, ripping off a 2:46.560. Probably while flossing. But let's not overlook young Michael Cooper, who with 142 less horsepower and a boatload less torque to work with came in less than four seconds behind John (ringer *cough* ringer) Hienricy.

Holy crap that would annoy the hell out of me.

So far mine has been fine and not many late 09 owners have any complaints. Rumor is the dealer has a fix for it back in June 09 for the 2008 models like the one in the video. Although they still say they experience lag but not nearly as bad as before.

Maybe ill get more lag with higher mileage. Who knows.

Just thought I would share this video I just stumbled across a minute ago.
Not sure if it's a repost or if anyone has seen it, but it's
Some really cool videography work.
Worth watching in higher def in full screen.

I am about to drive my 335 off a cliff.

Just had the transmission pan and mechatronics sleeve replaced. Trans fluid all over my garage floor.

I give up.

That's what I'm worried about.... being own of those Euro owners with my car in the shop or out of commission for at least once a month. It'll get old enough sooner or later.

Why is it that the older Bimmers are built like tanks and the newer models are always having issues?

I have flipped cars so many damn times in the last 6 years it's disgusting. Need to consider getting my wife a car in the next year or two. I am hoping, perhaps for the last time, that troubles with this car are done.

10/10.

I'm going to come off as cheesy, but I think a blue line around the rims would have looked good.

But still, it's gorgeous.

For years my mom had been telling me how she wanted a convertible, and it looks like I may have finally helped her on that path. She currently drives a 2007 Honda Civic LX coupe, and she is absolutely enamored with my 330xi. We'll be looking at some 2004-2005 BMW 330ci's in the coming weeks, hoping to find one with the Premium Package and Performance Package with black interior for around $20,000. Wish me luck in converting her from a Honda driver to a BMW driver.

The C&D review I read (or was it Automobile) said it was like a M3 you could use as a DD and not sacrifice anything.

Yeah, I ain't know. But it seemed like high praise.

I drove a few and yes, there is a lot to sacrifice. It doesn't how to scream and it is at the end a very boring [quick] powerplant.

From what I've read, it's just as quick as the 335i but with better mileage and $3k more.

You might be the most negative person I've ever seen on this board ... And that's saying something.

How is the 335xi? I found a 2008 cpo with 25k miles asking for 39k with all options ( navi, sports, prem, cold weather, ca) and its saphire black on coral. I could get .9% financing on it.

That's kind of high for an 08, even a CPO. Try to get them down closer to 35k. They might counter saying there's not a lot of XI coupes with these options, esp the 6sp manual. That's an awesome color combo too!

That seems like a LOT of money for a 3-year old car even if it does have low mileage for the year.

But crazy enough, Edmunds says just over $40k for a CPO. Wow ... Those cars hold their value really well.

That price is too high. I bought my '09 with 5000 miles with similar options for $38k. Plus I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of their xi models. The suspension is raised and the sport suspension isn't even an option.

I'd take a regular 335i but can't find a 6mt with coral interior and navi plus all those packages cpo'd anywhere.

You guys think that price is bad? I agree it is...but, I just did a quick auto trader search for 08-09 335i in my area. For kicks, look at these prices. Granted some are for convertibles but still...
