No, I'm not stupid and I'm not missing the point. He's an idiot, we all KNOW that and yet you get all pissed off at him for "disrupting threads." Fuck it, ignore him, is that so god damn hard? He's probably some 17 y.o. kid who's parents have been buying Lexuses "forever" (since 1995 say) and thinks they are better cars than everything. So what? We are all biased for/against certain brands no?

Tommy needs to realize that in Car Talk, many of us have our loyalties, however, we appreciate all of the different offerings. He likes Lexus, and that's fine, but if he doesn't back off of his approach and arguing with everyone when they present their own opinion, he's going to hang himself. He also doesn't seem to realize that the German makes are very popular in CT (and in general honestly), so he's treading on thin ice with the members anyway.
But that said, yes, we have banned folks for trolling before, and if this keeps up, it will not be any different. Like I said above, he is being watched by several and he has been warned in a few threads... so there are eyes on him.

The new BMW ALPINA B4 Bi-Turbo models combine these characteristics like no other. The modern straight-six 3 litre engine equipped with two turbochargers produces 301 kW (410 hp) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm. The adaptive ALPINA sport suspension and the 8-Speed Sport-Automatic Transmission with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC deliver maximum comfort and impressive dynamics. Functional aerodynamics, signature 20” ALPINA CLASSIC wheels and two elliptical double tailpipes are hallmarks of the ALPINA design philosophy.
The B4 Bi-Turbo Convertible accelerates in 4.5 seconds, the B4 Bi-Turbo Coupé All-Wheel Drive in just 4.0 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h on their way to a top speed in excess of 300 km7h. The B4 Bi-Turbo Coupé passes the 200 km/h mark in only 14.1 seconds. The drivetrain, equipped with Auto Start Stop and Valvetronic, also impresses with class-leading economy figures of just 7.6 (8.0) litres per 100 km and 177 (186) g/km of CO2 measured according to ECE Norm.
EXHAUST SYSTEM
The stainless steel exhaust system which was developed in collaboration with Akrapovic is 7.5 kg lighter in comparison to its predecessor. The resonant, sporty sound of the exhaust system is controlled by an intelligent exhaust valve. This offers the driver the possibility to influence the sound experience via the Drive Experience Control button and facilitates the balancing act between emotional soundtrack and long-distance comfort. In Comfort Mode the exhaust valve remains closed up to 2500 rpm, beyond which it opens depending on engine load and rpm. In Sport Mode, however, the valve is permanently open and the B4 Bi-Turbo thrills with its distinctive aural character under hard acceleration – when additionally selecting Sport (S) or Manual (M) Shift Mode the exhaust will deliver an occasional burble on the overrun.
AVAILABILITY and PRICING
The new BMW ALPINA B4 Bi-Turbo Coupé and Convertible models are available to order from March 2014 onwards. Prices in Germany start at Euro 68.600,- for the Coupé and Euro 74.800,- for the Convertible, incl. 19% VAT ex-factory.

I consider myself a pretty aggressive driver. but i think the Comfort mode in default helps a lot since it regulate your throttle response and RPM does not go up as fast.
So in a way it is forcing you to save fuel.
I heard the rumor that you can save more with Eco mode but i have not used it once in my own car and not planning to.

ETA: What kind of tune do you have? Mine's a direct flash from ESS. I don't know if a piggy back (like JB) would impact the mileage over a direct flash, or not.

But in F30, 8AT is about 10% more than 6MT. especially on the highway due to lower cruising RPM.
The new 8AT is better than 6mt is pretty much every category. It is faster, more fuel efficient and the car feels more powerful in WOT because of the gear ratio and more lower gears.
But No thanks.

F30 is probably the most fuel efficient 3 series to date. i had a E92 loaner for about 2 weeks and i was averaging 18mpg, so you can do the comparison.

Not sure about the impact of the trans, but I'm guessing I do a little less freeway stop and go than you. But, that's just from my anecdotal comparisons of Phx and SoCal freeways.

In the months that I drive, I get about 19mpg from my commute (20 miles of freeway traffic). In the months that my wife drives, she gets about 16mpg from her commute (4 miles of in-town traffic).
