Hey! sorry, forgot to answer your question. there's a module for it, but i can't seem to locate the thread right now. it should be somewhere in the DIY section of 1st gen mazdaspeed3 over at mazdaspeedforums.org

Dude, you gotta do what you gotta do.

You will have so much time to play with your car later. No worries. It won't go away.

Only if I can get the pricing that I want for it.

If not, I'm completely fine with keeping my MS3 for more years. I just want to get a smaller roadster, that's all.

If I do get to sell it, AP will be yours. It's the best mod for our cars.

And don't get me wrong, my hpfp internal is coming onto my way this week... If I don't get a VERY good deal on both my car and a new MX-5 or S2K, I'm just going to keep my car. There isn't a thing that I don't like about my MS3, it's just that I would love to have a small roadster since I don't need to haul anything these days and on for about 3-4 years at least.

I don't do it myself either. Don't have much time these days. But I do purchase the oil and oil filter myself though. Then do it at this local service center, it's like 10 bucks and 10 minutes.

Seriously.. I've been sick of "safe mode" map.. Been running this overly conservative map for the past 2 months.

The POS stock fuel pump was the limiting factor in releasing more power through tuning. But once I get this sucker in coupled with Denso one step colder spark plugs that I already have, I will be able to target 19.5 - 20psi with no problem on fueling.

Hope this gets rid of my MX-5/S2K lust.. or if I get a good pricing on my car and a new car, I don't know what's going to happen.

Yeah.. I shouldn't have driven that MX-5. It's just so fun to drive.. and it only puts out like 160 hp.

I'm planning to stock out my intake and go to couple different Mazda dealers and see what they can offer me for the car. If they offer anything above $22k as a traded in, I'm taking the deal. But I'm going to have to get a good deal on a MX-5 too though. So, it's going to be hard.

But if it doesn't work out, I'll enjoy my car for another year or so and I can always try it again next time.

It'll be really hard to blow it up!

It could have been troublesome if I just go romp on the car everyday with aggressive tune without the upgraded fuel pump, but I really did baby my car with an overly conservative map.

I can confidently say that I never went WOT in my 1st, 2nd, and 4th gear.

But once I get the hpfp internal in, I'll be completely fine with running aggressive map and go WOT in every gear. I'll be able to hold my fuel pressure 1800psi on all gears under WOT.

And the 1st and 2nd gear for MS3s are pretty much useless... since the car starts to hook up fully with the ground from 3rd anyway.. too much tq is not always good for FailWD.

Just remember to work out the purchase price on the MX-5 before mentioning the trade.

What I'm going to try to do is, I'm going to put the stock airbox in on friday night. Because of all my mods, that is the only thing that's noticeable. Then, I'm going to visit two different dealers and tell me to give me the best offer on my car first. If they offer anything above $22k, I'm going to start negotiate the pricing on the MX-5. If they offer anything under $22k, I'm just going to say bye bye I'm going to come back next year again.

And the fuel pressure is usually like that on a healthy car. Right now, if I run an aggressive map and go WOT on all gears continuously, there's a high chance of my fuel pump failing... Anything under 1600psi when you go WOT is not good and/or safe according to Cobb.

If the deal doesn't work out well, I'm planning to install my hpfp internal and spark plugs next Saturday and start enjoying the stage 2 map on my ap.

There are couple local MS3 guys who are willing to help out on it next saturday morning. I can't install it myself because I don't have a vise. It should take no more than an hour to install our fuel pump internal.

Agreed. It's fast and you can take more than one other person.

Keep the MS3, save your pennies, and get a MX5 later in life

On a trade-in..... I highly doubt that a dealership offer you more than $22k. Maybe there's something I don't know about but you will either get ripped on the trade-in, ripped on the payments or ripped on the OTD price (once it's all paid off)

You would probably be able to get $22k selling privately. I'm not sure of the market for your car and again, maybe there's something I'm missing but mods, including aftermarket wheels usually don't add too much value. Didn't you get your car for around $23k OTD?

I've always heard that with brand new cars, your car's value basically drops by several thousand as soon as you drive off the lot.

Yes. I'm leaning toward keeping the car. I'll try to get the MX-5 as my next car after couple years. Been talking to my gf and.. she doesn't think it's a sound idea to get a new car when my car is like brand new.. sigh..

My car's kbb market value with current mileage is $23k for good condition. It's $24k for excellent condition. The biggest reason of this is that the pricing of fully loaded 2nd generation Mazdaspeed3 has been increased by $3-4k from 2011 model. I now it's weird.

I bought my car for $23k before tax and license fee. So, it's more like $25k.

All my mods are in my sig. I don't have an aftermarket rims, and even if I have set, I would never trade in my cars with a set of aftermarket rims. Why would I do that when I can easily sell it separately??

And like I said I'm probably going to end up keeping my car anyway.

I'm happy and sad at the same time..

Ah, okay so your car is fully loaded. That's pretty good then. I'm probably going off of old, misguided info

Up to you, really. Just don't make a decision you think you'll regret. I think a lot of people (myself included) get these cravings for a new car after trying one out but after a month or so the feeling subsides. Maybe if MX-5s are on your brain all the time then I'd do it.

Yeah..... it just felt so great when I drove it.... It was the same feeling that I got from driving S2Ks but with bigger interior room.... So it literally felt like driving heaven....

Anyway, as much as I would LOVE to have it right now, I really don't think it's a sound idea to get it now. My MS3 is still new and I haven't really driven it like I should have. I was really babying the hell out of it till now. My upgraded fuel pump is being delivered to me after almost 3 months of waiting, and it is going to be installed next Saturday.

The expected gain from adding hpfp is about 45-50 hp with an aggressive stage 2 map.... maybe that'll help me forget about the MX-5 for a year.... Then if I get that itch again, I'll probably install a set of Koni coupled with Swift springs. ($900-1000) That should help me to fight against that itch for another year or two.

But really, I'm going to drive the MX-5 Miata, sometimes in the future for sure.

Why not look for a cheap 90s Miata for fun and keep the MS3? You should be able to find a clean one in the sub-$5k range.

!! YES!!!

i mean.. why not just have a 2nd car?? if 90s NA is a bother.. look into the NB?..
older car, cheaper on the registration vs your MS3...

my chingoo just bought a NA in Jan and only uses his MS3 if he needs to carry people or feels like just going for a spirited drive on fwys or something.

As much as I'd want you to get an MX5, I wouldn't do it either.

You just bought the MS3, and not only is that a bad ass car, its a more bad ass car because of the money that you've put into it.

You'll lose money if you trade it.

Get one next time 'round!

It is a good idea and I thought about it too. But I think I'm just too young to have 2 cars at the moment. Once I buy a house and all that first, then I'll probably get a 2nd car.

As much as I want do pull the trigger on this, I think I should just wait couple more years! Thanks for the suggestions though, I was thinking the same thing. And I know a lot of people go that route.

Is your chingoo the one with 1st gen MS3, josh?
