With the same mods on both gen1 and gen2, the gen1 is very slightly faster than the gen2 since it's lighter. it was proven by multiple members racing each other. it's pretty close, the driver mod is the most important in this case.

Come down to LA when you get a chance. Test drive my car...... it'll definitely ignite your modding temptation right away.. lol but really, the parts are pretty cheap and our cars respond very well to the mods.

I'm currently in the process of dialing in the stage 2 map. It's going to take awhile, since I'm getting etuned by some ATR experts on msf... I already got one revision done during the weekend, so hoping to do some datalogging tomorrow.

The basic stage 2 map developed by Cobb was way too rich, and i wasn't hitting the targeted boost which was 17.5psi at this point. But i'm sure everything will be fine tuned within 5-7 revisions, there's definitely more power to be had from tuning.

I'm going to try to run 90% of the full potential of current set up since it's my daily driver.

Just couple things to note from the install day. So, local msf members usually meet up together once every month. This was my first time going out to the meet these guys, and it turned out so much better than i expected.

there were about 10 members who showed up to the meet, and some of them were heavily modded and the rest were modded as well. everyone brought some new parts to install at the meet, and everyone helped out each other on installs. they were all very cool and experts on everything that's related to mazdaspeed vehicles since some of them have been working on this platform for more than 5 years. this one guy at the meet was actually one of the co founders of mazdaspeedforums.org.

so i got to the meet at 11am and ended up spending almost all day talking, wrenching, and drinking beer with them.

oh yeah.. i wasn't going to get a CBE since it doesn't give any power.... but i changed my mind after hearing the Ultimate Racing CBE in person.... if i find a good deal in the future, i'm getting it for sure. it sounds so very awesome.

^ That's awesome to hear! I know there's a few members in Tucson and Phoenix that get together and help other members with mods, so I'm going to have to look into that if and when I do any mods that might require so extra hands. Very cool man!

When I test drove that 1st gen with the CBE I was like hell yeah! It sounded awesome, not too loud but very throaty.

^ Yes! You should definitely go out to those local Nator meets. Get to meet all the cool people and save A LOT OF money on installation.. haha it's fun to work on cars anyway, right?

and these people know what they are doing. they know what can go right and wrong on installation of all the mods. this guy who helped me out on fuel pump internal swap did about 20 fp swaps for all the msf members... crazy.

CBE on our cars = Win

Glad it worked out for you. I went to a Mazda meet once when I had my MS3 and it was a bunch of dingdongs doing burnouts in the parking lot.

I haven't been to a meet since. I may go to a Cars 'n Coffee in the Fall in Virginia.

^ which forum were you on? because if somebody does that in our meet, they will ban the guy and send him out to mazda247.com. Most of the guys I met at the meet track their car at road tracks, autoX, and drag strips.

Mazda3forums ... At the time it seemed like the least donkeyfied of the Mazda boards. There are some good guys on that board but it's a bunch of numbnuts 18-22 year olds in general.

^ oooh.. never heard of that forum.

Our forum has a lot of old dudes especially in 50s. They are super knowledgeable on suspension set ups. I wonder why there are so many elders who drive our cars. Probably couldn't afford to get a new Corvette to get over the mid life crisis so ended up with MS3s.

But really, they always say they wanted to get an EVO or STi to play around, but went with MS3s due to its better overall value factor, which is the exact reason why I got my MS3. I could have bought an EVO but didn't think it was worth that much extra $$ to get one.

How fast are the B6 S4s?

I was just doing couple 3rd and 4th gear pull for datalogging on 710, all of a sudden this black B6 S4 merged in from 10W and started going pretty fast. Then he lined up and we went from 50 to like 110ish. I surprisingly got him by 1.5-2 car length.

We got off the freeway together and he had this sweet looking aftermarket exhaust. Don't know how much he was modded, but it sounded really good anyway.

What do you think? Carbon build up?

Went out to see my gf at work last night, got back in my car and got no response from my gas pedal until i pressed it more tuan halfway. Parked again, restarted about three time until i was able to get a response from the pedal.

All is fine now

lol is there ever a time that you will not be thinking about modding your car

so do you do the work by yourself for the things to install, or do you go to a shop or know people?

I think so. If you go to VIP section in msf.org. there's a list that explains all CEL cides and you can definitely fix it easily. Let me try to search that too. No worries though, it should be a minor job.

Not exactly sure how fast they are, but since you beat him, its time to up your level and find a rs4 to play with

Also, i noticed on monday that 4th is kinda sticking, like its hard to get it out of 4th. Thats the only gear that does that.

Also, i had the ac on full blast and the fan speed wasnt blowing as fast as it should (not on auto). So i turned it off for about 10 mins, turned it back on, and it worked again

All the mods that I had before my hpfp internal and denso plugs, I did it myself + my gf. LOL

As for tuning, one of the tuning experts on the forum helps me out with it. I can do the basic fuel and boost tuning myself since there's like 100 pages of discussion board over on mazdaspeedforums.org. But the real tuning comes from playing with timing, and it's really complicated and if you mess this one up. Zoom zoom boom.

no way haha that was just a random quick race.

my gf would kill me if i do any more power mods, but i really want to do a DP, IC, and meth injection. These three are the major power mods, what I have now are like medium bolt ons i should say.

Get 3 qts or Ford Motorcraft Transmission oil. It's been proven that it's the best for our cars.

As for the AC, I never use my AC.

Took out the sound at work. What are they doing? Trying to find an optimum RPM point of launching it from dig??

Nevermind, found this article.

http://www.insideline.com/mazda/mazd...wagen-gti.html

Never done any burnouts before. haha

haha, i wouldnt do it. Seeing that GTI drop the clutch from 7K rpm, hurt a ltl for me. I wonder how quick you can lose a transmission doing that.

edit: then again, you're making quite a bit more power than stock I assume soo, you dont need to drop the clutch at redline

Yeah.. it's just stupid to do this on a stock car for nothing anyway.

Doing a burnout in FailWD is just pointless! haha

lol i know, shoot why do i wanna a gti as my first car (not gonna happen for many years)
I've been driving fwd car for my whole life so far!

But I cant see myself in something like a Mustang, and I would take a GTI over a 2.0T Genesis. Dunno what to do. Maybe the Scion FRS, will actually be good doubt it. And its probably guaranteed all the ricers will head toward that car...

FWD or not, GTI will not let you down at all. The fun factor in that car is amazing. And it is refined inside too. I highly recommend it.

we'll see...

Since you arent biting towards the miata/s2k now. For the future assuming you have more money, would you still go for those or say something like the mustang 5.0?

I could have gotten a Subaru STi 2 years ago, it's just that I couldn't justify paying almost $38k for one when I can get so many fun cars below $25k. Now $50k for a 1M is just so

Anyway my plan is to drive my MS3 for 3-4 more years then decide what to do after.

What do you guys think about this exhaust sound?

This is the same brand (Ultimate Racing) of my race pipe. I heard this exhaust in person last Saturday and I'm in love with it.
