So... I'm thinking of ways to get my mother to consider a manual transmission car for our next purchase.

I know I shouldn't be trying to convince her, and I'm not. I just want her to give it a shot.

So far, the only arguments I've come up with are fuel economy, reliability, and fun-to-drive. Not that they're insignificant, but am I missing anything?

Less upkeep compared to an auto, especially a Honda automatic.

You can't really claim fuel economy anymore, but I've seen few stories of thieves being thwarted by a manual transmission. As much as I prefer manuals, I doubt I'd try to convince someone to get one, especially a parent.

if its her first time and she doesn't learn properly or is just someone that can't get it right then throw out reliability.

Like someone said you cant say fuel economy anymore. And fun to drive is based off of the person

I don't know how long VW has been rocking its AWD platform. So, I'm just speculating to say that the one in Subaru is slightly better than that of VW? Don't know how technological both systems are though. I'm a noob.

The 4Motion system in the VW seems pretty good. In normal cruising it acts like a normal FWD car, but it can transfer up to 100% of the torque to the rear wheels.

Its a Haldex system, the same thats used in all of the transverse engine Audis.

The one on the STi is probably slightly better just because you can adjust the torque split using a dial on the center console. The Haldex system doesn't allow that since it's computer-controlled.

You can, however, get an aftermarket solution that does allow you to set the split. It's another $1000 though. I'm pretty satisified with how it feels from the factory.

The Ralliart tails are a nice touch as well.

Stock Evo tails (last I checked) don't have the black housing like that either... they're like this

Oh yeah, the partially blacked out one looks much cleaner. Are those like JDM shit? or maybe for a MR version?

I personally think EVOs look much sexier than STis.

^they're Ralliart tail lights.

I dunno.... in high school an Evo/STi was my dream car pretty much. But now that I've gotten older, I still like them but I could never bring myself to buy one. It's not so much the potential abuse factor, but I can't see myself in one.

LOL yeah, I could have bought a brand new EVO MR when I bought my MS3. But I didn't only because performance per $ factor was HUGE for my car compare to STi/EVO.

This might sound strange, but I find most EVO owners (at least those that Ive come across) to be a bit more mature then the typical STI driver.

And EVO > STI in every way IMO.

Yep.

Though to be fair, an Evo with a turboback sounds good for a 4-cylinder. But the Subaru burble, boxer rumble, whatever you wanna call it is one of the best sounds out there

If I just wanted my car to sound like it was misfiring Id unplug a coil pack

Unequal length headers are just for sound, not performance. You lose power on them.

Official claims Fisker Karma to blame in Texas house fire

Bad Karma?

By: David Arnouts on 5/08/2012

Last week, a fire badly damaged the home of a new Fisker Karma owner, and authorities are saying that the electric car was the source of the blaze.
According to Fort Bend County, Texas, chief fire investigator Robert Baker, the Fisker Karma started the fire that spread to the house.
“Yes, the Karma was the origin of the fire, but what exactly caused that we don't know at this time,” he said. The car was a complete loss.
According to Baker, the driver arrived home in the Fisker, pulled into the garage, and less than three minutes later the car was in flames. It reportedly was not plugged in at the time of the fire and the Karma's battery remains intact.
Right before the fire, the owner reported a smell of burning rubber.
“The car was brand-new,” said Baker. “He still had paper tags on it, so it was 60 days old at [most].”
According to Baker, the Karma was a post-recall vehicle bought in April.
There was substantial damage to the garage, which then spread to the second floor. No injures were attributed to incident. The house was new, but the owner had already moved in.
Baker estimated damages at roughly $100,000, not including the other two vehicles in the garage, a Mercedes-Benz SUV and an Acura NSX.
“This looks just like golf cart fires we have down here,” said Baker. The suburban Houston area has approximately 50 golf cart fires a year, he said.
“I've worked homicide scenes with less secrecy,” Baker added. “There have to be about 15 engineers down here working on this one.”
While Baker seems certain of his conclusions, the incident is the subject of an ongoing investigation, and an official report is expected in the near future.
When reached for comment, Fisker had this to say:
Last week, Fisker Automotive was made aware of a garage fire involving three vehicles, including a Karma sedan, that were parked at a newly-constructed residence in Sugar Land, Texas. There were no injuries.
There are conflicting reports and uncertainty surrounding this particular incident. The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated.
We have not yet seen any written report form the Fort Bend fire department and believe that their investigation is continuing. As of now, multiple insurance investigators are involved, and we have not ruled out possible fraud or malicious intent. We are aware that fireworks were found in the garage in or around the vehicles. Also, an electrical panel located in the garage next to the vehicles is also being examined by the investigators as well as fire department officials. Based on initial observations and inspections, the Karma's lithium ion battery pack was not being charged at the time and is still intact and does not appear to have been a contributing factor in this incident.
Fisker will continue to participate fully in the investigation but will not be commenting further until all the facts are established.

Good job uglifying it. The new one looks pretty damn cheap.
