Too bad they didn't pick a nicer looking design for the wheels on the Z28. They're supposed to be super light for 20s, or something.

I like the flowtie a lot too. Still in disbelief that in the hands of Randy Pobst, it performed better than a GT-R

Also, buddy of mine built an LS1 at school, his current plan is to put it in a 240Z. Forged internals, ported heads, big cam. It will be awesome.

I get the joke, but that wasn't me

More specifically, I posted that pic December 2011. I'm kind of glad I didn't drive it earlier too, because I might have ended up with it sooner. It's not the most reliable car, and many things have been ironed out in the past year or so.

Is that normal for new cars these days? Little problems here and there? I only have some experience with newer Toyota/Scion/Lexus models.

Yups. The FX50 has had little gremlins for the first 2 years of ownership...particularly, the "SES" light (that refers to something wrong with the gas cap) that kept turning on. Obviously, I've closed my gas cap tightly and it was not the issue...more along the lines of when there was a big drop in temperature difference and on the next start-up of the car, the light would turn on.

It's been since fixed but not before Infiniti had literally replaced everything related to emissions for the car.



The MINI has been pretty issue free so far.

I hope so, regarding the MINI. I don't like to base cars off of prior experiences, but seeing you and with new ones, I am slightly worried. My sister-in-law's '03 had a laundry list or problems. But with a new car kept in stock condition, there isn't much to worry about.

Yeah, thanks dude.

The MINI has been actually pretty darn reliable minus a cracked windshield (from a winter of rocks/pebbles pelted at it) which we will replace. And honestly, this city gets such extreme weather that it is put to the test already for a couple of winters now.

No issues.



With a new house in our to-buy list soon, both cars will be around for awhile. So, they BETTER last.

I found out randomly looking at exhausts of all things... Volk G12.

Gram Lights, Rays, Volks... same thing I thought from the machined sections in the sides of the spokes that it was a set of Gram Lights.

My guess is that HiDs incur incremental weight that normal headlights don't have.

I think the radio only has one speaker as well, or something like that.

If rumors are true that the next Camaro will be on a smaller platform, that will be very interesting. The 2015 Mustang is supposed to be a lot heavier.

Well, if you noticed, Honda is making their cars bigger and bigger. The Accord has gotten bigger over the years.

Yeah , the heavy thing is annoying. A lot of cars got heavier over the years. Cars used to be lighter before. Except like big old cars, those used to be real lunkers. The 1971 Cadillac Eldorado for instance was 6200 lbs.

While that's a good proposition, can you really sleep well at night knowing that you could have had a rumbling 420+ hp V8 sitting in your garage for a few thousand more? I sure couldn't...

If you would consider the E90 M3 to be an agile car, the 2014 Mustang GT is as fast or faster than it on a track...and that's with a live rear axle. The new one will be even faster due to suspension and chassis upgrades.

Modern Mustangs are serious performance contenders these days, they aren't the straight line queens of old.

It's a track car, that's it. I'm sure it's not something you'd want to drive on anywhere close to a daily level. It probably sucks major balls on the street whereas the GTR is perfectly fine for a daily.

It does, the only reason for the one speaker is to run the door/key/seatbelt chime which is mandated by law. The rest of the stereo is optional. As is the air conditioning.

New Mustang is less than 100lbs heavier than the old one. Ford just released that info this week.

The GT will be at least $5K more and I think a $300 tune will get the Ecoboost closer to 350hp.

But but but nothing says "muscle car" more than a large V8 under the hood. The EcoBoost might be the more sensible route, but I don't think I could do it.

I'd pay more for the Coyote exhaust note alone. LSx and HEMI engines sound great. But Ford has always had an edge in that department

Does anyone have experience bedding in race brake pads? It was much easier bedding in street pads in my Camaro, given the extra 700 lbs of mass to stop and double the power and torque to get up to speed.

I hate this squealing shit. "Because race car" won't fly when you have a date, I'd think.

You're right - I should elaborate. They're hybrid pads, race/street. The operating temp low end is at 0 C. Maybe it's my driving style, as I usually downshift and brake lightly.

The problem is I can't get them to fade (their operating temp is claimed to be up to 800 C, or almost 1500 F. I'm running stock rotors and I'm worried I'm gonna cook the rotors before I get a good pad deposit layer.

... I probably should have just gotten that Prius.

Makes sense since it truly lives on the track. But an LED headlight wouldn't be lighter, either? I wonder what exactly the weight savings is for using the halogen versus HID. I guess the reflectors are all lightweight plastic, but is this more of a marketing thing rather than reality?

And I guess too that if I spent $75k on a Camaro, I could add my own custom headlights if I wanted to.

Agreed. I thought about this yesterday. While driving the ST, I said to myself, would I want something like this in a Mustang? RWD would be fantastic, as would the 2.3L EB, but I love the Coyote too much. I think the EB is a great solution for the middle road of the Mustang options, making it more obtainable to the market, as well as catering to a crowd that would want to modify. But personally, as an enthusiast, I would rather wait several more months or however long I needed to be able to afford the five-o.

Yeah, I agree. But that's not why I'd buy that car. Especially if I do end up moving to Colorado. No point buying a 400hp NA V8 that ends up being the same HP as the Ecoboost because of the altitude

There's also a meathead component to the V8 muscle cars that I have no interest in being lumped into.

If I were DD'ing the car, I'd go EcoBoost. Otherwise, yeah, 5.0 please.
