Farewell Acura

It's been a nice and solid ten years of owning two Acura's, both my 04' & 09' TL's. I was in the market for a new vehicle and the current Acura lineup wasn't doing it for me, so I've jumped ship and purchased a 15' Lexus GS 350 F-Sport. This car is a beast on the road and as you would expect from any Lexus, luxury at its finest. Hopefully Acura get this stuff together so that I can potentially return in few years when my lease is up. Nonetheless, below are few pics of the white shadow..hehe

The GS look soooo dope in white, congrats!!

The engine specs are similar to the 4g. Assuming you had the 3.7, how does the drive compare to your old acura?

The GS has a little bit more pep in its step compared to the Acura, especially when you put it in Sports + mode. The Lexus also feels lighter than the TL

Love the GS in F-Sport guise. That's not a bad car to leave Acura for. Hopefully, at some point, Acura will give enthusiasts what they have been seeking....without having to pay $150k for a NSX.

What's sad is that all it would take is for Acura to create a type-s model for the ILX, TLX, and RLX, do a little tuning to bump up the power a bit on each of them, add a skirt package, exclusive wheels, bbk, a nice exhaust note, spoiler, sport suspension some interior accents and a badge and all a sudden you'd have the attention of the enthusiasts again.

Sick car btw, they should be a little lower from the factory for an F trim though.

Congrats! My friend recently got one (AWD), it's a nice car but I don't see it being worth the premium over an awd/adv. From a performance prespective it's significantly slower than mine pre tuning (straight line) and in his words the AWD is no where near SH-AWD on curves; SH-AWD hugs curves, Lex AWD rear kicks out.

Not really, design is a major factor as well, and the whole grill shield is and always has been horrendous.

Congrats, the GS is a fantastic ride....we almost got one (an F-Sport like yours) but eventually we decided for a Q50 Sport AWD...lots of former 4Gers migrating to Lexus, Infiniti or the Germans.

Another 4G TL owner that did not "upgrade" to the TLX....welcome to the club!!

Almost feel bad for Acura...

Great choice and looking forward to pics as you start modding it

I don't feel bad for Acura. They've put themselves in this situation by offering bland & underpowered vehicles. Don't get me wrong, I loved my 09 TL-SHAWD, but it was time for an upgrade. I test drove the TLX and couldn't get over the fact that it doesn't have exhaust tips.

Congrats man, no matter how many times I see the new GS F-sport I don't get tired of it. Gorgeous car. 10x better than anything Acura is putting out right now.

I think Acura will introduce the rear fascia from the ILX on the 2017 TLX...no exhaust tips.

^ Waiting for the next redesign. The TLX is a step in the right direction but it's still kind of . Hoping the next round of redesigns gets them out of the beak phase once and for all...

I beg to disagree...the TLX is a step in the wrong direction....cannot believe that a mainstream midsize sedan from Chrysler (the 200) actually looks more attractive and upscale and it does beat it in technology equipment.

I don't feel bad for Acura.

I was being sarcastic......

I loved my 09 TL-SHAWD, but it was time for an upgrade.

I still miss my TL SH-AWD 6MT...it was such a fantastic car, nowadays to find something comparable or better in that size and power but also presence and refinement, you need to spend close to 60K as your own recent purchase demonstrate.

It was certainly a step in the right direction going from 4G TL, which is not really a praise since anything is a step in the right direction from that abomination.

Do not let your personally hate for the styling of the 4G make you blind for the great qualities of that car...the TLX is a downgrade and a serious one... and is not selling that well either.

I have to agree with you there. The TLX is a major downgrade from the 4th gen TL. Remember acura's old slogan "ahead of the curve"? The only hope for Acura is the upcoming NSX...if it's ever released.

I don't think TLX is a looker but compare to 4G.... i would take TLX over 4G anyday.

I just saw one this morning, god, that thing is still ugly after this many years.

Matter of opinion....the supposed "ugliness" of the 4G is a great internet mystery...I only received non solicited compliments for my car from strangers....gas stations, restaurants, etc...

For me it is a stunning and original design, is aging beautifully (actually not even aging yet) and even quite few die hard 3G "I will never buy a 4G" folks did break down and eventually got one.

People nowadays are so used to the bland sameness that even a masterpiece Citroen SM would be considered "ugly".

I didn't because you just called 4G TL's design stunning and original and of course it is aging beautifully because you can't make the ugliest any uglier by aging alone.

For me is stunning and beautiful...for you is ugly...different opinions. However, in real life I met far more people that think the 4G is a great looking car than folks that think is ugly.

As things stand, not many 4G owners are going for the TLX (there are quite few threads on the 4G section about "your next car" and the TLX is barely mentioned) and this was confirmed to me by a very senior Acura salesman in the Seattle area. If anything usually 4G owners give a glancing look to the RLX and then decide to go somewhere else. Lexus GS and Infiniti Q50 are prime candidates for 4G owners as replacement.

In the Acura family, The TLX is interesting mainly to TSX owners and some die hard 3Gers (but not that many).

When you look at a car like the 4th generation TL, the styling was way ahead of the competitors for that particular cycle and it still looks great on the road after being introduced in 2008 (MY 2009). Brands like Infiniti and certain Lexus' looks quite old after 4-5 years on the road.

You realize, of course, that your "real life" observation is entirely anecdotal and biased by the fact that it is far more likely that a person who likes the styling is going to tell you so, than it is someone who hates will tell you directly, right? Your observation is simply a product of basic human nature - we tend to be more free (in person) with our compliments than our criticisms.

Has it occurred to you that maybe.. just maybe people who think your TL was ugly did not really want to tell you in your face? and why would a random person just go up to you and say Hey your car is ugly!

There are many reasons why many 3G and 4G TL owners do not buy TLX, similar reasons as why G35/G37 owners did not buy Q50 and i am one of those owners.

Not because TLX or Q50 is a bad car, it is because we have had enough over the years. Changes need to be made before we return.

Did I ever bash on the 4G TL car itself? I can't look past the abomination. That was the biggest reason why everyone hated it. Nobody really bashed on the car's quality or driveability because it didn't matter. LOL

You have to understand that some people like or dislike the design. You learn to accept that fact before throwing personal shit to others like a 12 yrs old.

TLX replaced TL and TSX. That's one of many reasons why it feels like a downgrade. I don't know how bad that car is selling because I simply have zero interest in that car.

It still is a step in the right direction from 4G TL in terms of the looks. The 4G TL was one of the worst looking car ever for me.

I'm talking about general automotive discussion not just related to my car....there are not particular problems , discussing cars, to say that you do not like a certain model even if a person you talk to own it....you do not need to be offensive about it. Happens all the time, for example, recently a very good friend of mine, a BMW die hard, tested my Q50 and he appreciate the car tech a lot but he said he would never buy one, "too Japanese" in style for him.

I'm just telling you that my TL is the car that received more non solicited compliments from strangers...it is definitely polarizing, some people think it's very unappealing others that it is beautiful. Even the press was divided. Definitely had lot of personality compared to the TLX.

There are many reasons why many 3G and 4G TL owners do not buy TLX, similar reasons as why G35/G37 owners did not buy Q50 and i am one of those owners.

The TLX is not a bad car at all, just a not an exciting one from a driving and design standpoint. Too close to a regular mainstream midsize sedan. Many 4G owners (and rightly so in my opinion) are not buying it because they feel it is a step down and they find it too bland in its styling.

The RLX has impressive fit and finish and very interesting technology in the hybrid form but just too boring and derivative in the look department.
