Yeah, that puts the car at 200whp with fatter curve which is obviously much better than stock hahaha The car needs EL headers. UEL with that subie rumble I hate it hahaha
THANK YOU!!! I can't stand the subaru "rumble" - it sounds like a misfire to me I have the PTuning EL header on my car with the Delicious flex fuel tune. It woke the car up and gave it some definite midrange that it sorely needed, but it still sounded like poop.
The weekend after Thanksgiving is always an expensive one for car guys... i'm waiting for these to come in from ze Fazzahland:
I got them for a steal - the best price I've seen was $750 with harness; I paid right around $550 for them shipped, and about $99 for a used harness from ShopDAP (it was either used on one of their demos or an mk7 owner accidentally ordered it a returned it). I'm looking forward to getting them, but not necessarily the install. Routing the wiring through the rubber boots at the top of the hatch is a pain.
I also ordered the DKM twin disc clutch and light weight flywheel, since my clutch is slipping in the 3k rpm range when I give it more than half throttle (the stock clutch is notoriously weak). It's rated to hold 660ft-lbs of torque at the wheels, but I will never make that much power - at most, I'll be in the mid-400 range if I upgrade the turbo. I've been calling around to get quotes for the install, and shops are running anywhere from $900 to $1500 for the install, which is insane. I may use the install money to pick up a QuickJack and do it myself, but I'm waiting on a few other shops to get back to me.
I may also place an order on new motor mounts since I'll be in there anyway
I love those tails, wish VW would have included them from the factory for the US market as they are standard in Europe. Oh well. I don't think I could ever justify that cost though, so I'll just enjoy them on your car lol.

I think the OEM tails we get here aren't bad at all, especially compared to the mk7 tails. But - these are way better haha I just wish we had dynamic turn signals in the headlights so it would match. I may not code the dynamic portion, but we'll see.
Sam, just keep your eyes on the forums, if you actually want them. I’ve seen them come up a couple times, at obviously reduced (used) rates.
I don't want them that bad lol. I like them but, for me, the ~$750 it would cost to get and install them is 50% of the way to the SawStop table saw I'll be picking up in the spring.

I'm sure TheRetrofitSource is on the job! They've been pumping out dynamic turn signals for the front for a lot of different models these days.
The factory R clutch can barely handle factory power. Most start slipping in the 20-30k mile range at stock power levels. Mine isn't really bad, but it does slip every now and then, and I figured I might as well get in on the Cyber Monday deals and get the clutch on order. In the past, they would take about three months to be delivered, but the vendor is promising 2-3 weeks. We'll see...

That's why I'm considering the Quick Jack. Plus, it's something I would use more than once. I just want to get the FR-S out of the garage first before I have to tackle that project.

Buddy of mine runs a hybrid TTE and that thing moves... he’s in the mid 400whp range on e40.
I'm leaning towards the EQT Hybrid; they typically put down ~450whp on pump and around 500whp on e85. If I wanted to run BIG power, I'd consider an IMS kit, but I don't want to crack the engine open.
Before I do that though, I'm going to get the port injection kit and upgrade the fuel pumps. I like to over build She pulls pretty well as is, so I can only imagine what a bit more power will do.

God, I hope so. I aligned my headlights last week to try to get more light down-road, but it's still not on the level of the mk7 HIDs. I may try aligning them again sometime this week at a better location, but I'm not really confident in their output, to be honest.
Which quick jack were you looking at specifically?
I'm always for over-preparing .. especially when it comes to fueling. I've heard TFSI fueling can be a bit challenging .. I'm looking forward to your progress!

The 5000 model - Costco sells it for a couple hundred off the normal price and shipping is free:
And yeah, fueling is strange on these. Thankfully there are LPFP and HPFP upgrades out there for us, but there are some tricks required for install. The port injection kit does help a bunch though, especially with keeping the valves clean.

This is why my car came with two clutches.
I don't think they'll be able to do anything to boost the output. I'm pretty sure the LED units are one self contained box without ability to modify much. My hope is that they find some way to make sequential turn signals but I don't know if it'll ever happen. It all depends on how the setup is wired from the factory.
I knew what I was getting myself into, I was just hoping the clutch would hold til 10k miles, not 7k.
Besides, the DSG rebuild sucks

I assume if they come out with anything, it'll be a fully contained unit with a new LED projector, similar to their other headlight units. But, I'm sure it'll cost around the same as their others, which is ~$1200 - aka not something I'd buy. I've toyed with the idea of cracking the headlights open to see if we could replace the frosted lens for a clear lens - maybe with a slightly different curvature - to improve output. It's far down the list though.

My hope is that I never have to deal with it. The current plan is to run it out to 6 years or 72k miles and then move on to something else. Like an E63 AMG wagon.

There’s no reason you should. If not modded, they’ve proven to be quite bullet proof. Not many issues, at least as far as the forums go
I don't think so, at least not outside of people being stupid. I'm sure there are the occasional few that have failed due to a variety of reasons but it's not a widespread issue. Also the 7sp DSG in the mk7.5 is the similar to the one that has been in Audi's for a very long time. Also, the same one that's in the RS3 and TTRS and S3.

Even lightly modded they're fine. The big issues were with the dry clutch DSG's (or DCT's if you will) of old. Those would burn up all the time from overheating just like a normal clutch would. Also, when people modded cars with dry clutch transmissions a similar thing as what happens to a normal manual transmission car would happen with the clutch burning out. Modern wet clutch DCT's can drive hard for a very long time with very little wear because the clutch packs are cooled and lubricated by the trans fluid. This is why you see people repeatedly launching Porsche 911's, Audi R8's, etc all day without issues.

The DSGs very rarely just go boom. But there have been people (with the 6 speed DSGs) that have started to slip with bigger power. The 7 speeds are too new to know for sure though.

It isn't the same 7DSG that's in the RS cars - they use the DQ500 which is rated for more torque. The DQ381 does seem to hold more power compared to the older DQ250 though, at least out of the box. APR says the DQ381 doesn't need a tune at stage 2 levels - whatever that's worth.

Ah, my bad, I thought they were the same thing. A quick Google shows that the DQ381 is "rated" to a max of 317lbft of torque which seems horribly underrated even for stock power output... Seems like something is missing here given that there are many stock trans DSG Golf R's running FAR more power than that on the regular.
Either way, the modern DCT is generally a wet clutch transmission for the sake of reliability.

I decided to place the order on the motor mounts. Should tighten up things nicely since the stock mounts are filled with jello. I'll be eating Ramen for the next three months
