I was referred to a shop that's about an hour away that specializes in VWs (they must stay busy ). They quoted me $650 for the clutch install and stated it typically takes them about 6hrs to do an AWD clutch. So I'm going to have them do it and I'll hold off on the lift until my bonus comes in in February.

I also ordered:

- Black Forest Industries stage 1 (70A durometer) engine mounts; this also came with a dogbone mount insert, but I already have one so I'll sell this one
- iABED rear main seal (everyone swears by this one)
- Fluidampr; the single mass flywheels are pretty noisy, and this is supposed to help

This should hold me over for a year or so; at least until the fuel system parts go on sale, and then I'll probably upgrade the turbo. I'm hoping to the have that stuff in the car before the new year because the OEM clutch does not like anything above 50% throttle in the midrange

I got them for a steal - the best price I've seen was $750 with harness; I paid right around $550 for them shipped, and about $99 for a used harness from ShopDAP (it was either used on one of their demos or an mk7 owner accidentally ordered it a returned it). I'm looking forward to getting them, but not necessarily the install. Routing the wiring through the rubber boots at the top of the hatch is a pain.

I also ordered the DKM twin disc clutch and light weight flywheel, since my clutch is slipping in the 3k rpm range when I give it more than half throttle (the stock clutch is notoriously weak). It's rated to hold 660ft-lbs of torque at the wheels, but I will never make that much power - at most, I'll be in the mid-400 range if I upgrade the turbo. I've been calling around to get quotes for the install, and shops are running anywhere from $900 to $1500 for the install, which is insane. I may use the install money to pick up a QuickJack and do it myself, but I'm waiting on a few other shops to get back to me.

I may also place an order on new motor mounts since I'll be in there anyway
Reminds me of the European market A4 led tails.

The US one still has the sequential part but there's a light that blinks along with it.

I was planning on taking the car out to have some AWD fun last night in the 1-3" of snow we were forecast to get, but we got ~11" I can't even get out of my driveway The roads in my community are state roads, so we're waiting on VDOT to plow them, which probably won't happen until tomorrow or Wednesday

In other news, I got the Fluidampr, rear main seal, new crank pulley bolt and wiring for the Euro tails.. I'm still waiting on the clutch and mounts to ship, and the taillights are...somewhere. The DHL tracking was last updated on Dec 3 when it left Germany, and DHL says to get updates from USPS now, but USPS still says Pre-Shipment.

Yes and no lol. I have a set left over from the GTI that I thought were 17s, but they were 16s, so they won't clear the brakes on the R

Damn so you stole all my snow I was supposed to get. They were calling for 8-12in here and we got 3-4in at most. Would love to trade you for that snow.

So no then.

Not all 17" wheels will clear the brakes so make sure you do some research before you buy a set. I have the factory wheels off of a Jetta that I use that ever so barely fit. I think that even a couple post it notes would cause the wheels to hit the calipers.

Hard pass lol. FL heat and humidity is no joke.

We have no snow, it's just cold. Well we do have some but it's like 2in on the ground that never melts because cold. It's the gritty icy snow at this point.

If only that were possible... I like looking at snow. But that's about it. It turns into a slushy mess during the day and an icy skating rink at night.

I'll probably get a cheap set of 18s - probably some knockoff OEM wheels - for winter duty.

I actually don't mind it. The humidity sucks, but to me, it's better then snow and cold.

You get accustomed to it, like anything.
We have a family member that was a NY transplant and every year at Thanksgiving she's like "I'm grateful for the sun and year round warmth"

Dynamic taillights arrived yesterday, even though they've been in the states since Dec 7th I wasn't going to let the rain stop me from installing them though.

It took about 3 hours to install - but most of that time was double and triple checking pinouts for the plugs. If I were to do it again, I could probably knock it out in about 2 hours.

Today ended up being 65* and sunny, so I decided to wash the car and make some mudflaps. They're some universal Rally Armor flaps that I was going to use on the FR-S when I went with the RB kit (which obviously never happened), and they've been sitting on a shelf for 3 years. A little trimming to get the right shape, and they look decent.

I'm in love with these lights.

And that will probably be the first and last wash of the winter

I use CQuartz Reset to maintain the ceramic coat, so it's still very slick. Wax wouldn't even adhere to the surface The weather is beautiful today too (although a bit windy) so I may ceramic coat the glass and the taillights.

The offset front plate is killing me. Is there no option for a centered factory mount?

I even put tire shine on! (after those photos were taken)

Unfortunately, the OEM option requires drilling into the face of the bumper:

And mounting the plate in the middle in the lower grill will block airflow into the intercooler. I'm still hoping VA drops the front plate, but as long as the State Police sit on the transportation committee, that won't happen.

I got mine permanently installed. No chance of MN dropping the front plate law and my OCD won't allow the offset mount lol.

How the F did you go from 11" of snow to 65? That sounds awesome!
