The struts and front camber kit came in today. I drilled out the factory top hat washers and then installed the new insert. It was kind of a pain since the factory bushing kept just enough pressure to want to squeeze the insert out as I tried to install the other side. But I finally got it, and I'm looking forward to the added comfort of having the factory strut mount bushings in there.

I'm still waiting on the dealer to let me know they have all the bolts. I'm really hoping to knock this stuff out Saturday morning.

Joke's on you, the bolts were ready for pickup Wednesday, the email went to my junk folder I picked them up during lunch today. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to the gym or start the install tonight.

Update - I took a nap

Then I got the car cleaned up ahead of tomorrow's cars and caffeinated beverages. 14 months later and the water still beads pretty well, but I'm probably going to recoat it at the end of summer.

yeah man, the older I get the more I have to wait to feel inspired.
Although most of the time if I'm itching to get something done I'll lay down to take a nap and pop awake 15 minutes later.

No nap today, but I pushed through the install on 5hrs of sleep. It was rough lol

Knocked it out in about 5hrs. The OE driver side strut fought me for a while. I haven't driven the car yet, so impressions are still to come.

I haven't installed the deadset kit yet. I haven't been sleeping well the past week and it's starting to take it's toll. Hopefully I'll have it in me to do it tomorrow.

Thanks Yum! When I was at Cars and Caffeinated Beverages (that's the actual name btw), which is held at Audi of Richmond, I found a Sonoma Green RS5 Sportback. I couldn't not take a photo.

If only I had $86k

But anyway, I took the car out earlier. It rides so much better - even compared to stock. The difference between comfort and normal nodes is actually noticeable now. The top hats with camber inserts are silent, just like OEM. I'm incredibly happy with it so far - definitely worth the money.

Glad you were able to get them in in time for your road trip. Sounds like keeping some OEM level of refinement is important to you.

I'm considering shocks in the near future - the springs are evident but I'm learning what underdamped feels like.

I was so tired last night I couldn't think of the term to use for the stock struts, but underdamped is exactly how they felt, even on stock springs.

You don't have DCC, right? If so, you probably have a much larger selection of struts to choose from, and at lower prices (for which I am jealous).

Yes, my plate would be HULKMAD

I got the subframe deadset kit in today. I thought it was going to be way worse then it was - it took about 2 hrs and most of that time was spent looking for the right sockets

Essentially, this kit includes tapered inserts for the bolt holes that centers and locks the subframe into place. There's four bolts that hold the subframe to the chassis, along with two replacement brackets with two bolts each to located everything.

Shit photo, but you can kind of make out the size difference of the bolt holes compared to the nutsert on the frame, and how off the subframe was in relation to it:

It may not seem like much wiggle room but it can throw off your alignment by .5° on either side.

It came with ARP hardware, so it's plenty strong.

I supported the subframe with a floor jack, removed the bolts for the dogbone mount, then removed all the bolts holding the subframe to the chassis and slowly lowered the subframe about an inch. Slide the top inserts in, line up the bolts, and get them started a few turns, then I jacked it back up making sure it was level, and torqued everything down in a cross pattern to ensure no binding.

It straightened out my on center steering wheel alignment, and initial turn in feels slightly more direct, but that could be a placebo. Any driving differences will be a bonus since I got this mainly to even out the alignment left to right. I also have some camber arms for the rear, but I'm not entirely sure I need them, so I'm probably going to list them for sale.

if only. This is it as far as mods go for the foreseeable future. We booked a trip to Germany and France for later this year, plus I still have the FRS to work on for a bit, so this thread may actually get some updates from that. I'm probably going to sell it with some of the mods still installed simply because it's not worth my time to swap out. So mods for the VW are going to be non-existent for a while, sadly. But with the trip, I don't think I'll be able to swing the port injection and EQT turbo this year
