Sometimes I wonder how much more I'd be able to do to the house had I not put all that money into cars in my teens and twenties...but then I wouldn't have met you guys, so I'm ok with the struggle right now
Volk ZE40s. They're around $750.
Each.
The CEs we were talking about were $750 each. I was seeing $850 each for the ZE
Along with a more reasonable ride height, as I get older, I'm liking a nice looking OEM wheel more than aftermarket too.
I do love the wheels I threw on the S4 but I love teh oem and will likely end up refinishing them and selling these one day.

Aftermarket wheels were needed on a lot of older cars. You are right OEM wheels have come along way that is for sure. Audi does make some of the best looking OEM wheels. The German brands as a whole has some of the best looking wheels from the factory. The V still has factory wheels cause I honestly struggle to find an aftermarket wheel I like on that car more than the OEM ones.

$3k plus tax and shipping can get me a lot of other things...
Definitely, man...
I didn't mind the 20" I put on the V but I really only bought them and slapped them on
because in the midst of my divorce I developed the leak from the stock wheel crack...
this was the second leak and AFTER replacing one wheel and refinishing them.
I just wanted a quick solution and picked them up. I was not sad to get the weld fixed

I think something like that would work well on the Golf/GTI/R.
Wheels from anything but the A3/S3 won't fit on the Golf platform. The offsets are really aggressive. The R has stock offsets of +50 or something like that while the RS3 wheels are +42 and the A4/S4/A5/S5 wheels are something in the low 30's.
Depending on the width, it can be done. I'm running spacers, which essentially make the rears 19x8 +33 and 19x8 +40 in the front.
An 8.5" wheel in the +38 to +44 range would be perfect with my suspension. Obviously, less camber in the front will effect the aggressiveness you're able to run.
Just an fyi - I believe the rs3 wheels are staggered. I know they run 255s up front and 235s out back (yes, reverse staggered), and I believe the wheels are 8.5" and 8" wide, respectively.
Fitment wise, yeah, they'll fit great. But I just looked it up - theres a couple different options for the RS3:
I'm assuming they're the V56s, which is what's on most RS3s. If they're the 45Ts, then they're 8s all around. Either way they'll fit, just wanted to make sure Sam was aware that they are most likely two different sizes so there are no surprises.

Yup, they are the V56's. I'll have to check on the widths since I don't particularly want to buy new tires and would just get the stock Contis swapped over. The 49 wheels look nice too but I think they are pretty overdone at this point. The guy wants $800 for all 4 in pretty much mint condition.
Doesn't seem like a bad price for OE takeoffs. Worst case, you could flip 2 & buy matching width for the remaining 2 for a square setup, if that's what you wanted.
Nope, bare wheels. I'll just move over my stock Contis. Thank you VW for not doing TPMS sensors.

That's probably what I'd market mine for. There's someone on CL here trying to sell his set for $1600.
Figure the only cost would be to swap tires over. Other thing I need to figure out is if the center caps will swap over too or if I'd need to get new ones.
Good questions. The Englishtowns center caps are about an inch small then the ones needed for the Prets. Not sure if it's the same for the Prets. If they are - DAP has them for $9/ea.
In other news, the new springs showed up today from Eibach, so I swapped them out during lunch. It took longer to jack the car up then it did to swap the springs
This spring is 1.5" longer then the originals, and allows me to set the adjuster to the middle to achieve the same height that I had with the adjuster all the way up. This makes me more comfortable as the adjuster has way more threads engaged for a solid hold.
I've also chatted with Ground Control a bit about getting some helper springs for the front to take up the void between the strut bearing and top hat when the front wheels are off the ground. I'll be ordering them today and secretly installing them - my better half has banned me from working on the Golf until the FRS is sold
GC says the helpers will add about 1/2" to the height, but there's still plenty more on the adjusters if I wanted to go lower. I'll still be able to achieve a good height with the helpers installed.
