KaMLuNg, I went in for a loose shifter linkage. Left being told my shifter bushings were worn, my shifts were eating the gears in the trans, and while the trans is out, I should replace the clutch. The parts manager's father-in-law (was) a patient of mine. So he got my warranty to cover a new trans/shifter (warranty didnt want to pay for a new trans, but he discounted it enough that they paid for it). I paid for the clutch. So I basically have a '13 Corvette drive-train in now (warranty already paid 5.5K for a new rear diff last year). Guess I can't complain. BUT, the lesson is never to buy without some warranty/extended warranty in place, for sure. I paid 5K for a 5 year extended warranty (and they've gotten jacked up)

So is that bill before warranty? Doesn't make sense since you said they covered most of it and you paid for a clutch.

im surprised he was able to justify a new tranny... if the gears were dead, i thought they would have split the tranny in half and just changed out the gears...

We're talking about a dealership here. Their technicians consist of code readers and parts changers.

That would be beyond any of their technical abilities and I'm sure GM wouldn't want to pay for them to sublet the work out. Just cheaper/safer to change it all lol.

I kind of disagree about your view on warranties. The only time to ever deal with a dealership is if you are buying a new car which I would not do anyway.

I buy my own parts and can do my own work. If I can't do it I know a reputable shop that can for 1/3 the price of dealer with better service, knowledge and abilities.

When I have had warrantied cars and bring them in to dealer every little thing becomes a fight to get them to do it. So much arguing and wasted time doing that. Then they do half ass work on top of it.

What parts cost you the customer almost 5k? Also, where did the labor come from if the tranny was out wouldn't it be a minimal charge to install the clutch.

I agree. To be honest, I didnt think anything was wrong with the trans or the gears. But, I was going to get a free new 13' 6-speed trans out of this, so I let it be and didnt make a big deal of it.

That parts price you see is discounted. New: 6-speed Z51 Manual Trans/associated hardware, 6-speed shifter, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, slave cylinder.

Clutch job on the C6 is a PITA. The trans and torque tube have to come out. I cut the labor in half by changing the clutch prophylactic-ally. I figured since everything is new, why keep an old clutch?

I didn't believe him, as you probably don't, so he sent me pics to prove it and sure enough, he did have both tops down (he really had to pull her top down far tho, the pics showed it had to be pulled down to her knees to get those milk bags out).

Most of the pics Dr. Cougar sent me were pretty racy so I can't post them all here but here is the one work safe one he sent me of the hostess at the wheel. Sarlacc, if you still don't believe, PM me and i'll send the money shots

Phee, you are correct ha
