Priced out a titanium gray metallic with black interior. The V8 comes with everything included. Ended up about $1500 under the best deal I could manage on a 2012 SHAWD TL.

Worked out a good deal on a 2011 then I came home and read about the changes to the 2012.

8-speed tranny
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
Folding side mirrors

I love that the V8 can take regular gas (slight performance decrease).

So I'm going back to the dealer Monday to see what he can do on a 2012.
Looks like Hyundai is going to gain another customer soon.

Thanks all for the help, especially you Kris.
Good to hear that!

Just curious, why are you dumping your TL?

Good choice on the Genesis. It's indeed a great sedan. It's great that premium gas is not required, but you can use it for your discretion!

Have you tried the 5.0 R-spec?

The Genesis V8 is a good choice. The 2012 changes are nice as well. That it takes regular is a mild plus.

I say, again, "where's Acura"?

I haven't read up on any of the changes made to the new model....are those it? If so, are those few features important enough to you to pay a premium on a 2012 model vs. a discounted 2011 that they'll want to clear out in a few months?

Maxima or TL and I'd actually consider an Optima SX turbo. This coming from a guy who sells nissan kia and mitsu. Maximas have always been on the top of my list, but Kia, who's owned by Hyundai, have made one hell of a fast Optima and imo damn sexy.

edit; damn NJSHAWD, I didnt know you bought one, I could've sold you one.

There's always a navy blue Genesis sedan parked on the side of one of the streets I frequently pass and it ALWAYS catches my eye -- love the look. To me, just looks very elegant in navy. Even though I see it there every time, I always look. Nice car!

I can't wait to see one. The Genesis is indeed one of the most elegant sedans on the road. It's pleasing to the driver and pleasing to onlookers.

The gallery has mostly R-Spec pics but other than wheels and smoked headlights the 3.8 and 4.6 will look mostly like this.

Did you give the M35/45 a test drive?
And I agree with sarlacc, even if you are set on the genesis, i would go out and test drive other cars as an excuse.

Also, I dont know about you, but with considering the 2012 model, will it be the first time hyundai introduces the 8-speed tranny?? Reliability can be a concern there. Just FYI, wanna make sure you consider everything since its a hefty purchase, but it would probably be worth it.

http://truedelta.com/car-reliability.php

looking at this, it shows that the genesis is pretty reliable, best reliability in its class seems to be the infinity Mclass.

Surprisingly the BMW 5 series did just as well as the genesis sedan.

Actually, the 2012s have been making their way to the dealer lots (mostly lower-end 3.8s).

A few people have tested them out already and they say that the suspension tuning is better than the 2011s (which are better than the 2009s).

The 5.0 R-Spec is supposed to hit dealer lots towards the end of the month.

Still, one isn't going to get nearly as good of a deal on a 2012 as they would on a 2011.

At this price range (w/ some good rear passenger room), I would look at a loaded Optima SX, a 2012 3.8 GDI Genesis or a slightly used Infiniti M or Acura TL.

Do not like the Kia. Will not buy used. The TL and M are no where near the value the Genesis is.

I may drive the new V6 when it comes out but considering the gas mileage is very similar and they both take regular gas, the V8 is my choice. The new V6 will still be 50hp less than the V8.

My wife likes "R-Spec"

She saw the pics of the R-Spec and said...

1) I like the black interior trim instead of the plood
2) I like the wheels (I could take them or leave them)
3) More power makes Daddy happy (yes yes yes)

Well I'm 42 and have basically had two cars in 25 years of driving.

1991 Integra GS 3-door
1999 3.2 TL

She realizes I keep my cars forever and I deserve something fun.

Hard to tell in the pic but Titanium Gray Metallic with black leather.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to wait a few months to get the color combo and a half-decent price. I'm willing to wait.

^As far as I'm concerned, those pics prove the Genesis interior looks better. Both of them need to loose those large expanses of silver/aluminum trim, though.
